It's not an advantage at all - which is why they are allowed elsewhere - but if they aren't common site practice here then no biggy.  Plus, the game was expanded, making the point moot.

Having another persons take on the game isn't an advantage?

No, because it isn't like masonhood where you can use it to practical effect.  People are idiotic and post whatever is on their mind without consideration for their partner, if one slips up then it kills both, etc.  It is closer to being lovers.  Furthermore, they are worse as mafia because you can look for tells from either of them.

Fair point on mafia but I still don't agree on townsided. Having two people looking at the game and trying to puzzle out who's mafia is better than just one person unless you want to assume one or both are totally inept.

Sorry, I missed that post Nolder. Thanks for adding me.

That's ok and you're welcome.

Didn't expect this many people to show interest tbh.

It's not that I don't want all of you to play or anything.

I was reluctant because I've had these setups set in stone (after spending a lot of time working on some of them) for over a year.

It just doesn't seem wise to me to start shifting things around at this point.

Like I said though this setup is pretty flexible and basicish.

If ya'll want in on the next game make sure you sign up ASAP.

Considering the interest this game got I'll be sure to announce when sign ups open beforehand.

Ok I worked it all out. If any of you quit on me or need replacing/modkilled I will be very disappointed. That includes people in the original 14.

Hey Nol, I hope it won't affect your game but I need to be modkilled.  Tina quit.   And Despo needs to be replaced.

In your experience, are Town neighbors more accurate in identifying scum?  That's a much more powerful concept than a hydra [in so much as neighbors can vett each other and a screw up by one neighbor doesn't affect the Town's read on the other neighbor].

In fairness, how could you have known that Yates was going to bless this site and your game with his presence beforehand?

Not to mention the death of one will usually strengthen the position of the other.

Agreed.  But the point is less about the neighbor role and more about their ability to accurately identify scum.  Nolder seems to think [and I don't mean to put words in your mouth so please correct me if I'm wrong] that a hydra makes for a single over powered Townie because "two heads are better than one."  An example of "two heads" in a game is neighbors.  In my experience, neighbors aren't any more accurate than any other VT at finding scum but maybe Nolder's experience is different.  Additionally, I don't believe hydras are any more or less effective players but I suppose I'd have to go back and look at my game history to see if memory is supported by actual statistics.

Hmm, interesting. DM has issues with simple alt accounts, can't see hydras working well here.

No, DM doesn't have issues with alt accounts. Players have issues with following simple instructions. That is why I took them away.

Also, we've used the alts as Hydras in the past.

I like you already.

Sorry, that's what I meant. "The people on DM seem to have issues using alt accounts" is what I should have said.

If I had a nickel for every time I saw someone not in a game post in a game thread only to say "oops!  I meant to post that from the hydra account!" I'd be able to buy and feed a pony.

Give it some time.  This act gets old - or so my wife tells me...  *shrug*

It was more people posting in other areas of the site with alts even after being expressly forbidden by the folks in charge of those areas.

I never got why it annoyed people as much as it did

But it annoyed the hell out of me logging in and out all the time, especially cos I'd spell the alts name wrong a bunch of times first

And this is why I will never understand how public stonings went out of vogue.

Why are you running game-changing speedpolls while I'm on vacation?

And two Town Neighbors are much more effective at finding scum than two VT. You can use the QT to coordinate and bounce ideas off each other that you don't want to put on the game thread. Every time I've been a mason or a neighbor with another townie for an extended period of time, we've profited greatly from the relationship. Even just having a hydra would be a big advantage imo depending on the relative skills of the players. Some people are weak at a certain alignment or style of play. Having a hydra with someone who covers your weaknesses would be amazing.

Than just a single person? Sure.

I always think more people is an advantage at mafia.

It's like proofreading a paper.

Others will catch things you miss.

I'm not saying that would always be the case but I do think the town in general will have a better chance of catching mafia with an extra pair of eyes.

Will it always come into play? Probably not. But just one more person trying to solve the puzzle and giving their input can make a difference IMO.

It's kind of why when people die they're not allowed to talk in the game anymore...
