Beckham retired :mellow::tongue:

So did Michael Jordan. At least Beckham had enough sense to go out on top after winning a championship with PSG. It's not EPL or anything but Ligue 1 ain't no joke. MJ finished his career with the Washington Wizards...

he did the smart move, alot of better than most players

Yeah, his time with the Wizards, when he became the oldest player to ever score 50 points, the oldest to ever score 40 points, the only player 40 or over to score 40 points, the only 40+ year old player to average 20 points/game, and was an All-Star starter twice was totally wasted and he had no sense at all...

I wasn't saying he wasted his time, only that he hung on a bit too long. Plenty of stars do that. Willie Mays and Rickey Henderson were two of the greatest baseball players ever, but they were pretty bad by the end of their careers. I don't hold it against them, but I do think it's smarter to retire while people still see you as something approaching your former greatness. I would have liked to have had my last memories of Jordan be of him winning a championship with the Bulls rather than struggling to carry a team full of scrubs to an even mediocre record.

Also, Gordie Howe's old man exploits are unmatched.

Technically that is how Jordan started.  He got his ass kicked by Magic a lot before he learned to work with his team more effectively.  Besides, the fans loved to watch him play.

The only part of his career that should be regretted is the Baseball/MotoGP parts.

Sort of like Shaq regrets Kazaam...

Don't forget his time in the Wizards front office before unretiring, and his even worse stint as an owner in Charlotte.

Not everyone leaves while still the best in the league like Barry Sanders or Jim Brown.

For me, I enjoyed Michael's years with the Wizards because we got to see more of him playing.  Yeah, he was a little older, yeah he couldn't quite get his body to do it 48 minutes a night every night, but he could still dominate a game and it was great to watch when he did.

That's a scary Nets team, they'll be interesting to watch no doubt. Seems like Boston has rebuilding plans though

Rebuild mode fully engaged. Time to root for the Celtics, Clippers and Nets to suck next year. Not very likely on the Clippers front but I can always hope.

No, but his last game could have been stealing the ball from Karl Malone, hitting the winning shot in Game 6 of the Finals, and letting his hand hang in the air for a few seconds....priceless.  Or, I don't know....staying with the Bulls and winning a couple more.

I am a HUGE MJ fan, and I would have rather had him retire and stay retired.

Baseball must be excused - that was due to his father being murdered.  His dad loved baseball and always wanted MJ to play......so he did.  Can't fault that, unless you worked in the front office of the Bulls.....

Baseball was a worked out deal with the NBA to avoid be suspended on gambling activity.  At least that's my theory.  NBA didn't want their shining star tainted and neither did Jordan so they worked out a deal where he had to take some time off.  The baseball thing was an excuse.

No way.  He was untouchable - you simply let the gambling slide, because he never bet on his own team (ala Pete Rose).

MJ bet on himself in all other things.  Why would you not expect him to do so in basketball?   But you make my argument for me.  He was untouchable.  He resurrected the NBA.  So..they made a deal for him to go off quietly for a few years under a reasonable (??) pretext.

Can you at least wait a few more days before starting the game? I will be done with my last exam on monday, which also means I won't be able to play mafia during the weekend because I will try my best to study like crazy. Mish has also lost her Internet connection at home and they should have it fixed by the beginning of next week.

Anyway..there are no games going on now.  This one can start.

I think Wombat is still on vacation and Tina may still be busy?

Besides my birthday is coming up and I may be busy for a few days.

I'd rather stick to the stated July 8th start date if no one minds too much.

Also I guess I have a request to hold off. So yeah I think July 8th is still the best time to start.
