Guidelines and Requirement Rules for NOVICES

Guidelines for Novices & Accepted

A. Emulation. Initiates do their very best to emulate Aes Sedai; you act as much according to the above principles as possible. Follow the above rules unless you have a compelling reason not to.

B. Free Time & Chores. Novices have one free day every two weeks, a week being ten days long, and they will also be subjected to chores. Accepted can guide their own studies to a greater extent. All initiates will be working hard. Your days are full; between classes you have chores. You will collapse into bed exhausted every evening, rise still worn out, and thank your lucky stars for every free moment.

C. Pranks. Pranks must be approved (OOC) by both the Mistress of Novices and the victim of the prank. Generally speaking an Accepted will be expected to show more maturity than a novice and therefore Accepted will be punished harder for pranking.

D. Curfew & Limits. Novices are not permitted to leave the White Tower and they must be in their quarters after 9pm in character time. Also, novices may not channel without supervision. Accepted may visit Tar Valon between 10am and 2pm in character time, but they must be in their quarters after midnight. Anyone breaking these rules in character will be caught in character and punished in character.

E. Diligence & Dedication. An average initiate spends ten years as a novice and ten years as Accepted. Once you have committed yourself to twenty years of a harsh, dedicated life you know you want to become Aes Sedai and you are willing to do anything to become Aes Sedai. Study hard.

F. Relationships. Novices are not allowed to interact with members of the Warders Division except when ordered to by an Aes Sedai. If they are caught in the Warders” Yard they will be punished severely. Accepted may go to the Warders” Yard if accompanied by or at the order of an Aes Sedai or when training with the Warders; since they emulate Aes Sedai they will behave with proper discretion and restraint.

G. Time line. All Novice and Accepted RPs are done in Retro. That means that all your RPs take place long before the current Time Line of the PSW. Please bear this in mind when planning RPs, especially with full ranking characters (Aes Sedai) or members of other Divisions (who mostly do NOT RP in Retro). Certain things will not be known about or have happened yet in Retro, like Forkroot, the Dragon being reborn, the Black Tower, etc.

Requirements for NOVICES

  • All Novice Requirements are a Minimum of 4 Posts (with exceptions stated below) and 1000 words per said novice for each Thread (not including quoting other posters).
  • The Intro to Saidar class may be done in 4 threads, with only 1 relevant to the Class post needed per novice per thread.
  • Share Posting is allowed but still requires the 1000 word minimum each.
  • Solo posting (ie only you post in the thread) is only allowed in the 3 Arches and 1 other thread (either Homesickness, Recovery or Character Centered RP). The minimum word count of 1000 is still required, but it can be done in 1 post.

1) the word count:

It is a minimum of 250 words per post, unless you are:

a) Doing a solo post (1000 word minimum)

b) RP'ing with an Accepted (for instance Intro to Saidar) who needs to do 6 posts (you can then split the 1000 word minimum over 5 or 6 posts)

c) Doing a share post.

Novice Requirements

  • Novice Quiz - Ooc. Must be completed before allowed to RP.
  • Arrival: Choose one of the following:

    * Meet the MoN: - Rp where the Novice first meets the Mistress of Novices. Make it clear whether or not your character has been tested.

    OR:

    * Journey to the Tower:
    - RP the Novice's journey to Tar Valon and becoming a Novice as a solo RP or with a full Aes Sedai character.
  • One OP Related RP taught by an Accepted or Aes Sedai (must be approved by the MoN)

    * Introduction to Saidar (may be done in 4 threads, 1 post of 250 words per thread)
    • One Power Weaving & Application (explanation forthcoming)
    • or Submit a different option for approval to DMWTBIOS@gmail.com
  • Choose 2 of the Following:

    * Meet the Roommate - RP where the Novice first meets Roommate. (note: There will NOT be an official list of roommates.)

    * Freeday - Organize an RP with 2 or more Novices or Accepted, about a specific activity that takes place during your Freeday.

    * Homesickness - Adjusting to life in the Tower, your character reflects on missing home. (How does she deal with the loss of her family?)

    * Chore RP - A chore given by either an Accepted or Aes Sedai - the chore must be role played.

    * Recovery - Your character must deal with a minor/major set-back or loss and must find a way to deal with it. (Will she approach a fellow Novice or Accepted, Mentor or another Aes Sedai?)

    * Prankage! - You character has been involved in a prank of some kind! (How will you deal with it. Are you the prank-er or the prank-ee? Will your thread include an interview with the MON for punishment? (suggestion: you can do the Chore thread as a follow up on this.) Must be approved by Staff.

    * Create your own Character Centered RP - An rp that centers around your character and not someone else, in which you learn something important about yourself - Must be approved by Staff.

  • * Novice Life - Organize an RP with 1 or more novice and Accepted about daily life in the Tower.

  • * Introduction to Roleplaying Class - OOC - only once per person.

and finally:

  • Three Arches - Only to be completed when previous Requirements are completed and marked.

Please note that these are the minimum requirements. If you feel your character needs more fleshing out, or you simply love RPing this type of thing, you can do every single one there is, or post more than four times in a thread. Just please keep your RP partners in mind.

About the Update

The update is very simple and will allow for more options in completing your reqs.  Instead of the "Novice Life" RP being a required RP, it is now part of the "Choice" RPs, and you are now required to complete two of those instead of one.

If you have already started working on your reqs before this update and have already begun your "Novice Life" RP, it will still count toward your reqs, excpet it now counts as one of your "Choice" RPs.

I cannot copy/paste the Reqs for my thread. Actually, I cannot copy/paste anything at all when I attempt to create that thread. I've tried it from WORD, Skype... I may just have to type the whole thing out. However, if I do that, you won't have the nice little bullet points and all. :)
