Spoiler - Talmanes' fate

  1. 1. Does Talmanes Live or Die

    • Lives - gets rescued in the nick of time
    • Dies - fades away

He's dead and so he should be. It would be fairly big cop out if they were to miraculously save him. He died the death of a hero saving many citizens of Caemlyn, the Dragon cannons, and took out two fades in the process. I doubt there will be many characters who receive such a wonderful end to their story.

I like Talmanes, but he is toast. He was at the last stage, unlikely that even Nyaneve could save him without extra juice.

With the Seanchan invasion of the WT about to begin (Dark Prophecy), "Shinning Walls kneeling", more blood baths. Lanfear's trap for Rand...The final book will be very exciting.

I say that he is most likely to and probably should die. Does anyone think that he could end up being added to the Heroes of the Horn?

I loved when he laughed in the face of that second fade. And that even tho he knew he was on the way to dying he did not stop helping to the best of his abilities and he also maintained his humor throughout the events of the battle.

Hope he lives (what in bloody Ashes - sorry, couldn't resist) are all those AS who are supposed to be outside the BT doing in all this? Wouldn't it be nice if one dropped by?

They have to contend with one of the Foresaken, even though they don't know it yet. They'll get their share of spilled blood, no worries there.

When I was reading the Talmanes' line in the prologue I was reminded of terez' pipe theory. It's mentioned on page 10 that Talmanes is smoking his second best pipe ( his first best pipe presumably being the gold one that Roedran gave him). It's a pretty weird thing to mention IMO unless it plays a role somehow so perhaps terez has something there. Then in Min's vision about a pipe and two dead men on the ground surrounded by lots of Trollocs one of them could indeed be Talmanes. Which means that he will be a goner. It would also mean that Rand is going to show up in Caemlyn pretty soon.

On the other hand it's also mentioned on page 10 that Talmanes never took his best pipe into battle in which case his gold pipe is probably back in the camp. not sure how that would tie in with the vision then.

Sorry if this was recently discussed - I haven't been to this site in a quite a while.

That passage certainly caught my attention too.

I haven't read Terez's theory, but I'm assuming this is the idea of a finder having been placed on the pipe.

If true then the optimist in me hopes that the pipe gets separated from the dragons and allows Aludra and the Band to escape.

Not that this helps to decide whether Talemanes lives or dies, of course. He could be separated from his possessions either way.

For the time being though, I quite like the idea of Talemanes dying a hero and his pipe carrying on the good work all by itself - say by being picked up by some other soldiers and causing a diversion to help Rand

I gave the link to Terez' theory in my post. It's an interesting read. I highly recommend it. and yes, she suggests that there is a Finder placed on that pipe. as for the pipe being separated from the dragons it seems that it is at least at the mement because Talmanes doesn't seem to have it on him.

Talmanes fished his second-best pipe out of his saddlebag. Where was that tabac? He never took the best pipe into battle. His father had called that bad luck.

This presumably means that he left Roedran's pipe in the camp.

Wouldnt they have to find him in the next twenty seconds? Seriously, he was basically a walking corpse and was alive by sheer force of will and determination. I doubt even a strong healer could help him, he was that far gone. Once it gets to the point where your veins are turning black, theres probably no coming back.

i voted for him to survive out of pure wishing :)

it make a more realistic story (some could claim better story) if he die, but Mat Luck is a wildcard.

if he show with Morrain , i douth Mor can heal it , but she may stabilize Tal give him enough time to reach Nyn.

and currently i can c Nyn healing ANYTHING save death (and after the madness heal-> maybe if she be pissed enough.. :) )

btw healing Tal shadow infested wound may be a good practice to another heal try at rand unhealable wound

I feel that his living or dying will be indicative of the amount of hero killing AMOL will have as a whole.

He gets miraculously saved means not much of a bloodbath. (Still could have a couple big deaths, but not a free for all.)

He dies, it's just the very first drop in a bloody, bloody bucket.

I'm leaning towards the later.

Question: Any spoilers for A Memory of Light?

Brandon: Let’s see here. Harriet killed a character in the book that I did not intend to kill. So I wrote the entire book with a character living and she killed this character.

Question: Did she tell you right before you finished, or what?

Brandon: She sent back the draft and said "This person dies."

Question: So did you have to change a lot?

Brandon: So they succumb to their wounds. I intended them to live, so there is a character who died unexpectedly. So that’s a slight spoiler.

Quoted myself for the benefit of the page turn (I think this is what Ataxia was responding to):

I thought he would be alive when we next seem him. But after having read that new interview i think he is a goner.
