Harry Potter type ending? (spoilers for HP ending)

for those that know the ending to Harry Potter series, how similar do you think the WoT ending will be to that? I know overall it won't be, but the aspect of Rand dying then coming back to save the day and the whole link to Moridin is similar to Harry and Voldemorts situation. And no I'm not saying one author was basing their ending off that but just wondering what people think about how similar it might be with that

Doubtful. The whole storyline about the souls and horcruxes was started back in book 1 and was a major theme throughout the series.

I think it's much more likely to be the Matrix Reloaded ending. I'm always suspicious when prophecies always come true.

How does the Matrix end?

The path the hero is set was created by bad guy. When they meet, the bad guy says that this is the 7th time the hero has met with him, and he has to choose between saving humanity by "rebooting" the Matrix or dooming humanity to extinction by refusing. The last 6 times, the hero chose to reboot the Matrix. Every event leading up to this meeting was set by the bad guy, and the hero was set on a pre-ordained path.

Let's just hope it will not progress into Matrix Revolutions ending. wink.gif

As convincing as the Body Swap theory is, I'd still like this to end with Rand dead. Of course, I also wished that Harry would stay dead and Neville would kill Voldemort. I think that if you are going to do a Heroic Sacrifice to Defeat the Ultimate Evil, then it should be a real sacrifice, not a loan.

darn. I was hoping you were talking about the Epilogue. Rand and Min/Elayne/Aviendha escort their children to Two Rivers Junior High. I wonder what their kids' names would be. I'm going to ignore Aviendha's trip through the ter'angreal and say Moiraine Moridin Al'thor for one of Min's, because Moridin was the bravest man Rand ever knew, and I just wanted to mention Moiraine in an unrelated topic.

I wouldn't mind a Harry Potter-esque ending--provided its not mushy. One way to do a 'and the world lived happily ever after' epilogue would be to do it from the bitter, hate-filled perspective of one of the villians.

My dream scenario is that Demandred survives, gentled and bitter. Now that would be an epic POVbiggrin.gif

Neville killing Voldemort would have been epic. If HP had actually ended like this then it would be much higher in my estimation. But with her bank balance and number of sales I doubt JK Rowling gives a f*ck what anybody thinks

how about a PoV from a defeated light-side character as the world gets destroyed around them

Am I one of the only people who actually liked the HP ending? Anyway, I would like to see multiple PoVs from both the Light and Shadow...as for Rand, my fingers are crossed that he doesn't ultimately die.

Not at all. I loved the HP ending & Epilogue. It gave closure to the whole thing and I wouldn't have been as satisfied without it.

Frankly, I think that quite a few of the WoT fan postings that I've seen in these theory strings are rather too harsh on BS. Sure, he isn't RJ. I don't expect him to be. I don't think RJ expects him to be. And we know from his own statements that he doesn't expect himself to be. Perhaps it's difficult after being in love with the series for so long and re-reading it so many times (I've been following it since 1993 and have read some of the books a dozen times) but I've found that by simply enjoying the book for what it is and not letting my attention stick on what it isn't, I've found that the last 2 books were immensely enjoyable. I even felt that the pacing (which I've seen others call "rushed") was a nice change at times, as there had been a few areas of the last few books prior to BS which had felt just a little dragged out to me.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it and I know I will love it. Besides, regardless of anything else, RJ wrote the ending!

if it is similar to the harry potter ending, can we say rowling ripped rigney off? it would make for an excellent shirt. and it was already written years before the first potter book, if not published. (all comedy) i just think a t-shirt that says "Rowling ripped Rigney" would be extremely funny.

He basically does in the movie version. He kills Nagini, and Voldemort subsequently dies. In the movie, while Voldemort was unable to kill Harry with the Elder Wand, neither was Harry able to touch Voldemort. But after Nagini dies, Voldemort falls apart on his own. The movie version really leaves it ambiguous, leaning towards it being Neville that finishes off Voldemort.

Moghedien is the Chosen that I want to see survive the Last Battle. I'd love to think that she takes up investment banking again, and helps found the first stock exchange.
