I'm concerned about the lack of news about season 4. if they want to air a season before greenlighting the next one, they won't be able to launch more than one season every 2 years. which is way too slow

Yeah. Hoping to have some S4 news soon.

Brandon Sanderson tried (very hard) to change one character arc on the Wheel of Time show

"Sorry about Perrin on the show," he told the massive crowd of people, "It's not my fault. I tried. Oh, how I tried..."

"There are certain things," said the Stormlight Archives scribe, "Certain forces moving. You know that Jeff Bezos, at one point, said, 'I want Game of Thrones, buy it for me.' And they were like, 'You can't have Game of Thrones,’ and he was like, 'Buy me something that is my Game of Thrones' And there are certain forces at work."

Apparently, those 'forces' made choices about the character of Perrin Aybara ("my boy Perrin," Sanderson calls him), that Sanderson didn't agree with. So when he found out about the show's intentions, Sanderson came up with an idea of his own and brought it to showrunner Rafe Judkins.

"Rafe really went to bat for me," Sanderson says. "I presented a completely different thing to do with Perrin that would still get what they wanted. Minor spoilers for the television show’s first episode - but instead of the first big event that happens, [my idea was] what if he wounds Master Luhhan? He's worried about the rage inside of him - you can get all the same beats without doing the thing that you did, and then he also won't be traumatized for the entire first season. And he can actually go on fun adventures with friends."

But despite all of Sanderson's credibility with the Wheel of Time series (not to mention the fantasy genre as a whole) and the fact that the showrunner was on his side, his idea was scrapped. "They took it all the way to the higher-ups and fought for my version of it," Sanderson told the crowd, "and they said no."

This is quite interesting.  It's not the first time that I heard Sanderson talk about his misgivings about the fridging, but I hadn't realized the extent to which he is implying that major creative choices are being made at a level far above Rafe.  Someone with a lot of power wants the story to be different.

If they follow their previous patterns we might hear about Season 4 in June/July.  At least according to the people on twitter who track these types of things.

I don’t know if they want the story to be different; what they want is the tone to be different.  WoT trying to ride the GoT coattails was a bad idea from the start and has turned off most of the book readers.  I don’t know if they care about the story enough to want it to be different as long as they are tapping in to the grim dark tone.

Seems like spring 2025 release for Season 3 is looking more likely!

I was thinking I might be curious about season 3 and then about halfway through I was reminded why the show is irredeemable.  No Callandor.  No Tairen doors for Matt.  It's so far offtrack that any attempt to bring it back on track would just push it further off track.

They cannot recover at this point.

While Callandor is unlikely to show up this season there is not a lot reason it needs to be introduced early.

Not sure what they are going to do with Mat but it is not out of the realm of possibility to still have him enter the Twisted doorway.  Nothing requires that to be found in Tear.

Callandor the object is not important early.  Callandor the plot device that changes Rand from passenger to driver is critical and its absence leaves Rand a passenger in his own story.

In regards to Mat, I just intend to believe people when they tell me who they are.  If I had faith that the creators understood Mat's arc and thought it was important, I could believe you that they might still do it justice.

With an 8 episode series and so much they need to cover if this season will combine book 3 and 4.  I just don't think there is a lot of time to introduce doorways etc.  Sadly a lot will need to be cut to fit into eight hours,  They made Mat a hero of the horn plus dagger exposure could easily be used to explain his memories.  Honestly is Tear even needed?

I am sure they will write a metric load of content that never appeared in the books and focus on side characters etc. They have plenty of runtime to hit some major areas but you can see from seasons 1 and 2 that they will add a lot of their vision and filler.

They could probably place Callandor in Rhuidean and kill two birds with one stone. I do think that we will get some version of the twisted door/the Finn.
