Game of thrones - Season 7

Okay. That was ... just wow!

Winterfell: It´s so wonderful that all of the Stark siblings (except Jon) is back together. Poor Sansa, Bran is a robot with visions and Arya is obviously more than she expected. She just laughed at her list at first but in the end she understood that it´s a real thing. What is Littlefinger trying to do? Does he think that he can get Bran on his side? Really? I loved when Bran said "chaos is a ladder". So great! I so hope that the dagger will be the death of Littlefinger.

Brienne was really happy. She has fulfilled her oaths. It was great to see her and Arya together. What was not so great was to see the scene with Meera and Bran. "You don´t need me anymore", "No, I don´t". It was heartaching. She is leaving, all of their companions are dead, and yet Bran can´t show any emotions. :( I really hope that this was not the last that we have seen of Meera. She is one of my favourites.

King´s Landing: Not much to say. Too bad that the gold got to Cersei before Drogon arrived. Do you think the Golden Company will arrive? I doubt it.

Dragonstone: I really, really hope that there will be no romance between Jon and Dany. The cave was beautiful with the dragonglass and the paintings. Why are they so stubborn? Is it really that important that Jon has to bend the knee when White Walkers are on their way? I think that Dany knows that she can trust Tyrion. He got to go with her to the battle after all. "Fewer." lol

Again, poor Theon. I hope he will be able to save Yara.

Where is Gendry????

Somewhere on the road: Bronn is back! I have missed him. I was so afraid that he was going to die during the battle. They managed to make me like Dickon in that short amount of time. Did he and/or his father die? It went so fast so I didn´t catch it. The dothraki and Drogon were magnificent. Some arrows are no problem for Drogon. The new super weapon is worse though. Luckily Bronn didn´t aim very good. I was never worried about Jaime, Dany or Drogon, they have too thick plot armour, but I´m still worried about Bronn. Please let him live to see Tyrion again! Speaking of Tyrion, it was hard for him to watch Jaime in the battle. I´m sure they will have a lot to say to each other when they pick him up from the river. The only thing that went wrong was that Drogon burned all the food as well.

What an amazing episode. I almost cried when we saw Arya and her siblings at Winterfell and when Meera said goodbye. And my heart is still beating after the battle scenes.

Btw, I love to read your posts Tress.

They don't work for me after the fact, but they would be great if I was watching at the same time, like a live video on YouTube where there is a chat window to the side. That is what it reminds me of, but without the video playing along with it in sync, it is jarring.

I prefer this style of post after the video is over:

Winterfell: Yeah, it's great to see them together again. I hope they all get at least one moment together with Jon, too. I liked how Sansa suspiciously asked who all is on this list of Arya's once she saw that it was legit. I guess that's as close to an acknowledgement that she treated her little sister dreadfully her whole life as we're going to get. At least it's obvious now that she loves her. Bran and Meera was a terrible scene. I hope that if it goes down like that in the book, we have at least some mitigating insights within Bran's perspective, his thoughts as he's treating her this coldly. I half expected them to become lovers; in no way did I expect this. Even when she spelled out for him that he is being cold and rude and ungrateful and insensitive, he just shrugged it off. Wow, Bran...

Yeah, I hope Littlefinger makes close, intimate acquaintance with that dagger, and Arya is not one who would hesitate to make it so.

Dragonstone: I am not a 'shipper, but that is one thing I have shipped from the moment it became obvious that the Song of Ice and Fire was a song of Jon and Daenerys. I do not understand all the people who are against this. The argument is almost always one of "It's too obvious. I will gag if they fall in love and he kills her to slay the Night King," and I'm just like, "So? What's wrong with obvious?" Besides, they are the two most worthy rulers on the show or in the books, and their long, tortured journeys to this point have been wonderful to read and watch. In the books, they are both isolated for much of their storylines, so you can even single their chapters out and read them as two separate short stories, two songs, if you will...

I think it would be perfect for them to fall in love; is that why they shouldn't? That someone who hates romances thinks they are romantic?

What is your reason for not wanting them to fall in love, Niniel?

My last thoughts on the episode were "Glub, glub, a-hole!" but I know that he will live. I have never crossed over into  the camp that sees him redeemed, either in the books or on the show. I still want him dead, from the first chapter/episode of the series on, but I know I am in the minority, same as with the Team Jon&Dany thing. *shrug*

I had my hopes for Bran and Meera too. Maybe he will get over it some day? The TER wasn´t like that when Bran met him. Although he had sat in that tree for a long time.

I don´t think Jon will see Bran or Arya this season. I think they want to make us long for it a little bit longer.

I don´t want Jon to fall in love with his aunt! I know Targaryens don´t care about that but I think Jon would if he knew they were related.

Maybe Bran is being hard, like Rand did before he understood the difference between hard and strong? Still, like Rand was, he is being a jerk.

Ah, yes. There is that. I guess that's an elephant in the room, isn't it? I hadn't really even considered that. Don't do it, Jon! You're not a Lannister, man. Control yourself!

Re: Bran - he got a super fast info dump from the 3 eyed raven before he was fully trained and prepared to take over the role. His circuits are fried, basically. In the books, he's still too young for the romance angle and while I am not surprised the show makes it look like more of a possibility, I'm kind of glad they're not taking Bran that route. The Missandei/Grey Worm romance was enough off-book pairing up for my taste

As for Jon and Dany... Daenerys grew up her entire life assuming she was going to marry her brother Viserys (and would have been married to Rhaegar if she hadn't been born too late). She definitely won't have an issue with it. Jon will probably get a bit wigged out by it when he finds out, but I would guess by the time he finds out it will be a fait accompli

Aren't Missandei and Grey Worm siblings in the books?

I thought that Bran had a little crush going on Meera in the books. You are probably right about Bran just being overwhelmed.

For Jon and Dany, you may be right, and when he said he wanted to show her something in the cave, I thought the same thing you did.

Missandei's brother (or I think 2 brothers) are Unsullied but Grey Worm isn't one of them. I think Mossador is supposed to be one of them. Regardless, in the books she's 10, so... yeah. Aging her up on the show opened that door.

Bran definitely is crushing on Meera in the books, but he's 7 years old at the beginning of the story. The timeline for the book action takes place over about 3 years, so without George's late lamented 5 year gap, he's not really gonna get the girl.

Show timeline started out with Bran as 9 years old, and the passage of time isn't terribly clear but he's obviously intended to be a teenager... so I guess they could have had the crush amount to something, but I guess they have bigger fish for Bran to fry, and it doesn't bug me too much to miss out on it.

It's totally sad for Meera, to be sure. But as Ramsay Bolton would remind us all, "if you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."

George R.R. Martin is cruel.

ACTUAL THOUGHTS THAT WENT THROUGH MY HEAD WHILE WATCHING S7 E5:

JOE DEMPSIE IS IN THE OPENING CREDITS.... OMG GENDRY IS BACK

Mmmm, the castle at Eastwatch is now part of the map.  I guess that makes sense for an episode entitled "Eastwatch"

Bronn is alive!

And he saved Jaime! (Of all the ways people on YouTube and podcasts speculated he would be rescued, I'm pretty sure NOBODY suggested Bronn would not only push him into the river, but pull him out.  Although it did occur to me that he'd be the closest one at hand to do it )

Tell 'im like it is, Bronn!

Oh snap, Bronn ain't sticking around to be roasted.

"I have to tell Cersei." "Might as well jump back in that river." *snerk*

Rains of Castamere playing while Tyrion surveys the ash-covered battlefield...  Haunting.

There's a lot of POWs.  Bronn and Jaime are not among them, though.

Tyrion looks a little disturbed at the "bend the knee or die" bit.

Drogon providing a little bit of emphasis there...

Ooh, the Tarlys volunteer to die.

Tyrion is REALLY DISTURBED by the prospect of Randyll Tarly and Dickin both being burned alive

OH CRAP ROASTED TARLYS... Guess that kills the theory that Sansa would marry Dickon to bring the Tarlys into the alliance.  Woooooo

Whoa there, Jaime's in a bit of a hurry.

Jaime is speaking lots of truth that Cersei does NOT want to hear.

Jon, brooding on the cliffs... here comes Dany with a very. impressive. entrance.

Awwww, look!  Drogon likes you, Jon!

Dany's all

Dany wants to know about the "knife in the heart" biz

OH MAN!  JORAH'S BACK!

Awww, Dany/Jorah hug... And Jon brooding cuz HE'S JEALOUS?

Dat's a lot of ravens!

This must be Eastwatch.

And THAT is a lot of zombies.

Did the Night King see Bran in the bird?

Sam speaks up in the Maester's meeting, eh?  Tell 'em how it is, Sam!

At least Archmaester Ebrose agreed to ask the Maester at winterfell for more info, as little as they appear to want to believe it.

Ahh, so they know about the demise of the Tarlys -  I wonder what Sam does when he finds out?

Concerned Varys is concerned.

LOL... "Did you read it?" "It's a sealed scroll for the King in the North......"  (Of course he did)

Jon wants to go home.

Int'resting plan... bring a representative of the Army of the Dead to prove it to Cersei.

"How would we get in to King's Landing?" .... stare at the smuggler...

Ser Jorah volunteers to go on the wight capturing mission.

Jon wants to lead the mission.  Dany doesn't want to let him go I think she liiiiiiikes hiiiimmmmmm

 Sansa standing by Jon publicly even though the lords of the North and the Vale are suggesting they should have chosen her as their leader.

Arya is concerned that Sansa is playing politics for personal gain.

Oh this is tense.

Tyrion and Davos sneaking into King's Landing...

Jaime and Bronn training in the dungeons - ahhhhh, noooo, nice!  Good job Bronn, bringing Jaime to meet Tyrion.

The brothers finally getting to talk about their differences.  I like.

Blacksmithing.......gendrygendrygendrygendry... Davos coming to visit Gendry?

"Wasn't sure I'd find you. Thought you might still be rowing." omgrofl  I love the way they write in these shout outs to the fandom

Nothing f@#$% you harder than time, indeed.

Gendry is ready to GOOOOOO.  Oooh, and a spiffy new warhammer!

These guards are making me nervous... they may not recognize Davos and Gendry, but when Tyrion shows up....

LOL, fermented crab is the Westerosi equivalent of Viagra?

Geeeeeeeeeez, of course they spot Tyrion

And Gendry's warhammer makes short work of 'em YIKES

Jaime's going to pass along Tyrion's message to Cersei?

Oh she's not pleased.

Cersei's pushing Jaime to punish Bronn?  What?

Wait wait wait Cersei is pregnant?  What.

Crap, he's so never getting off her hook now. nnnnnnnnnnghhhhh

Except that look on his face when she said "Never betray me again." was a little concerned.

LOL.... Davos does all this work setting up a fake identity for Gendry, and he's all "Your Grace, I'm Gendry, Robert Baratheon's bastard son."  *snerk*

This is kinda cool seeing them meet for the first time.

Davos is put out that nobody's paying attention to his advice, lol

"You may not believe it, but I've missed you, Mormont.  Nobody glowers quite like you."   Tyrion brings the snark, as always

Dany coming to send off the expedition... Jon walking up while Jorah is kissing her hands YEAH WE GET IT, JORAH LOVES HER BUT JON'S ABOUT TO CUT IN.

Dany looking on after Jon like "come baaaaaaaaaacckkkkkkkkkk"

Gilly playing trivia games with Sam *snerk*

"Guess how many windows in the Great Sept of Baelor?" "None anymore."  LOL, too true.

OH CRAP, GILLY FOUND RECORD OF RHAEGAR AND LYANNA'S MARRIAGE WHAAAAAT

And Sam's all irritated because he has no idea what Gilly just found

Also, "Septon Manyard's 50,782 s#!^s"

Sam sneaking back in to the restricted section to steal more books...

Apparently he's just DONE. Whoa.

Whoa whoa whoa what wasw that?  Littlefinger and - is that Alys Karstark?

Arya is watching youuuuuuuu

Littlefinger schmoozing with the Vale and North lords...  trouble a'brewing...

Stalker Arya is stalking

What did the Maester find for Littlefinger in Maester Luwin's records?

A locked door is no match for Faceless Assassin Arya Stark!

"If I were a sneaky bastard like Littlefinger, where would I hide a document I'm trying to keep anyone else from seeing?"

Ah yes, in the mattress.

The letter Queen Cersei forced Sansa to write asking her family to come bend the knee to Joffrey?  What does he want with that?

Ohhhhhhhhh, ohhhhhhhhhhh, he's trying to set Arya against Sansa.  What a jerrrrrrrrrrrrk

They're at Eastwatch already?

With Tormund!  Yay!

"You need to convince the one with the dragons, or the one who f@$#s her brother?"  "Both".  *snerk*

Apparently they found the Brotherhood and put them in a cell?  What?

Well this is a VERRRRRRRY INTERESTING GROUP.

"We're all on the same side.  We're all breathing."  Jon knows what's up.

Heeeere we gooooooo into the frozen wastelands beyond the Wall, to find and capture a zombie to bring home for show and tell!

NEXT WEEK: Jon and crew faces down zombies, while Arya faces down Sansa... ruh-roh.

What I think about HBO Now is not appropriate to say on this site. It took me a loooong time to watch that episode with a lot of stops.

I´ll try to watch it again later today. There were definitely some great scenes in this episode but as a whole, I think it´s the weakest of this season. Jaime and Bronn survivied all the way to King´s Landing? Really? Noone tried to go find them in the water?

And as happy as I am that Gendry is back (Gendry!!!), I have no idea why Davos went to get him. And why were Sandor, Beric and Thoros in a locked cell? Some logic failures in this episode.

But now my rant is over for now, and later I will post all the great things that happend as well. :)

I think the show is covering years worth of time as if it were weeks sometimes. You can see this in the way people travel (ie Jamie and Bronn to KL or Jon and Co to the Wall). This is obviously necessary to continue the narrative but sometimes makes for confusing events. The BWB has probably been sitting in that cell for months.

I just keep calling Dickon, Billy.

Tress, I love your thought process. Sounds a lot like mine!

Ben I am with you!

Same. Looks like we wont have that problem anymore though.

Bye Bye Billy...again. :p

Why didn't Jon just stop at Winterfell on his way to the wall?

Everything is going so much faster this season and I thought it was fine until this episode. I really wanted longer dialogues in several scenes.

What is really good about this season is that Peter Dinklage has a lot more to do. I love all of the Tyrion scenes.

Road near King´s Landing:

Again, how could Jaime and Bronn get away? I´m not surprised that they survived but why wouldn´t the Dothraki look for them? Oh well, let´s forget about that. Tyrion didn´t like how Dany wanted to barbeque people. I understand that, but what did he (and others) expect? Her biggest strength is that she has three dragons. And dragons are scary because ... they breath fire. Bye, bye Tarlys.

King´s Landing:

Cersei is pregnant. Didn´t see that coming. I really want Jaime to leave her but the look on his face when he realised that he could have a child that he could actually be father to was so wonderful. Cersei makes sure it´s not too cute by threatening him. I think Bronn needs to be aware of possible danger.

I liked the scene with Tyrion and Jaime. I just wish that we had heard more of the conversation. I had also liked if we had gotten a scene with Tyrion and Bronn.

As I said in my last post, I´m happy that Gendry is back, but I don´t understand why Davos went to get him. It feels like that was the only thing they could come up with. I laughed at the rowing comment.

Winterfell:

Bran is good at skinchanging. The Night King is good at detecting Bran. I wonder if it´s because the Night King touched Bran last season and they have some kind of connection now.

Those lords are so whiny. Sansa told them that Jon is still in charge. Arya is probably right that she has thought about becoming their leader instead but she did stick up for Jon and I think that many in that situation had thought about it. And Sansa is right, killing people just like that isn´t good.

It was a nice touch that Littlefinger was the one who played Arya. I hope that he fails and that the Stark siblings turns against him.

Oldtown:

I liked Ebrose as a character. He listened to Sam. Of course he didn´t agree with him but he was willing to listen and send for more information. Not strange that Sam got annoyed at the maesters.

Rhaegar and Lyanna got married! Everyone has wondered about that for so long. I wonder if it´s the same in the books. Sam is clearly the best dad in the world, giving his boy some books to play with. :D

Dragonstone:

It was a great scene with Jon and Drogon. Drogon looked like a little kitten. I liked that Dany asked about Jon taking a knife in the heart but they got interupted because ... Jorah is back! I loved the reunion between him and Dany. It was very emotional. I wish that Jorah had said something about Sam.

Jon knows that Arya and Bran are alive. That is good. Unfortunately he can´t go home yet. Is this really a good plan? I mean it won´t be easy to catch a wight and will Cersei listen even if they can prove that they exist?

Eastwatch:

Where are the watchers? There should be some, right? And why are Beric, Sandor and Thoros in a cell? And where are their companions? These scenes were too quick. But what a team! Now I will have to worry a whole week - who will die? Jon will surely survive and I guess it´s "easiest" to kill Gendry, Thoros and Beric since they haven´t had that much screan time. But what about Jorah, Tormund and Sandor? Please let them survive!

And now there are only two episodes left. :(

I don't think Sam even knows about his father and brother yet. Not that he would be too upset over it, but still. If not Winterfell then maybe he's going to the wall.

Jon went by sea from Dragonstone - Winterfell is WAAYYYYYYYY inland.

I expect Sam will head for Winterfell, where he'll expect Jon to be.

Davos is the only one who has any idea where Gendry might be and knows who he is.   He also seems to have gotten attached to Gendry during his time on Dragonstone, and thinks of him as a surrogate son - they both grew up in Flea Bottom, etc.  I think it makes sense for Davos to be the one to pull him back into the story.

Apparently they tried to find a way to bring Gendry back last season but it didn't fit into the plot.

Why didn't Jon just stop at Winterfell on his way to the wall?

Where is Sam going?

Because he went by ship straight from Dragonstone to Eastwatch, which is at the end of the wall, on the coast of the Narrow Sea. Winterfell is inland; White Harbor, where the Manderly's live, is the North's big sea port on that side, and we see in A Dance with Dragons how it takes some time to travel from White Harbor to Winterfell, when Manderly rides there to join the Bolton's and feed them some Frey pie. Jon is in a hurry to catch a zombie for Cersei.

Edit: I see that Tress already answered that.

Bronn and Jaime, both wearing armor, should have either drowned, or popped up to the surface no longer wearing their armor.

I imagine that Sam is headed to the Wall, which is the first and best line of defense against the walkers, with the scrolls that hopefully explain how to defeat the army of dead.

Yeah, it seems like they condensed a lot of time in this episode, and it made it feel choppy.

I like all of Jon and Dany's scenes so far. I want to see more of them together, but then, I want to see them as a couple (even though "eeew, she's his aunt").

I am glad that Littlefinger is still a player and not some overrated buffoon who suddenly fails miserably as soon as Arya the Awesome shows up. Instead, he's going to game her a little bit before she shoves that dagger in him.

We have a good contrast in this episode of the clash of survival skills that the two sisters have. Sansa is pliable and manipulative. She was well-suited to survive in King's Landing after Ned's execution, while Arya would have followed him in short order had she remained there. Arya is brutally pragmatic, which served her well all alone on the run, a situation in which Sansa would have been left dead in a ditch after a gang raping somewhere. Both girls are strong, clever, and quite capable in their own ways, but their ways differ, and we got a good look at that last night. I liked that scene. I have to go with Sansa on this one, as politics will serve better than a knife, but I am looking for that knife to come in and save the day at the end.
