How would you describe your modding style?

What sets your games apart, makes them unique?  Is it flavor and storytelling (that's DPR's signature; he's great at designing well balanced games with interesting roles and twists, but I'd sign up just to read his games scenes)?  Do you Bastard Mod (Verbal, do you know anyone who likes to do that)?  Role madness?

For me, I try to bring a unique twist (role or mechanic) that's never been seen anywhere else (that I know of) to each of my games.  It usually means more work for me as a mod, but it makes it harder for players to play paint-by-numbers mafia strategy, and that usually means a more fun game for the players and for me to watch (I say usually, because I think my Injustice game was a dud for the players, unfortunately, though it was definitely fun to watch).

How about the rest of you?  Do you have a style?

lolol derf

My style kinda changes.  I usually have unusual roles.  I usually try to design my games to expose trends that I don't like.  I usually pick a theme I like.  I spend a lot of time on my setups, making sure they're really solid, but there's always something I don't think of.

I'm not very big on storytelling. I'm just not any good at it. I focus more on the mechanics of the game. My games are usually role-heavy, sometimes with unique mechanics.

I just try to create balanced games where both shots are as 50/50 to win as possible.

Probably the one place in the world where I trend conservative, but as a player I get frustrated if the game set-up favors one side heavily regardless of my team or outcome (or if one role in particular is a "hero role" where that player is gigantic in deciding the course of the game)

Agreed.  Balance is a baseline requirement for good modding; if you don't have that right, it really doesn't matter what else you do, your game isn't going to be a fun one for the players.

I prefer simpler games, honestly.

Mafia should be about guile, team play, and making smart decisions. I feel that when a set up is too all over the place it becomes a distraction and takes away from the foundation that makes Mafia what it is: Liars trying to kill people before they get found out.

Ummm.... good question.

I put a good amount of effort into working the theme into my games - I have a great deal of fun writing scenes, writing role PMs, and figuring out characters/roles.

People who have played my games and/or co-modded with me might be better at figuring out my niche.  I just do what I do.

Triggers and events used to be my signature thing, but other people have been doing them, which has led to me not modding anymore. I'd rather let others have the fun.

Lol, haven't been modding long enough to have a 'style' but I like small games and am hoping to make them a 'thing' cos then I can play more

Totally not selfishly motivated

I tend to throw games together last minute. I'll sometimes work a long time on a game, but normally I forget I'm in the queue or put up a game due to demand on other boards/sites.

Lol nope, not touching this one

Really? Why's that?

I thought about it for a bit.

Do I have a style? Yeah, I like to make setups that break or alter basic mechanics of the game in some way. Beyond that my games don't emphasize theme too much, they tend to have faster phases and I prefer modding ones that get big interest so I won't solo mod if it takes too long to fill up because I know my schedule doesn't support me committing to something a month after I plan for it.

Nothing, really.  I just try to write games that give a good mafia experience.  I guess I have the best role PM's.

As far as I can tell, I'm the only one around that loves to run Bastard games.
