The Foretelling Room

A form of prophecy in the Wheel of Time is Foretelling - the Talent that allows its owner to see a part of the future. Unlike Dreamwalking, this Talent is restricted to channellers only. Foretellings are always mystic and usually very hard to comprehend until the event has come to pass, after which the meaning is obvious. Some damane can interpret fortunes on demand; Tuon’s damane Lidya for instance. Their words are as cryptic as true Foretellings.

 

The 'divination' tool used here is the Rainbow Oracle, which uses five cubes that have a different colour on each side. When the cubes are thrown, the colours that are on top face are analysed to provide 'answers'. The particular method used in this instance is the 'one cube method' which has fixed questions and answers.

 

The Oracle guide states this method gives simplified answers that don't include either the cause or the effect of the concern and is rather like finding out the temperature, but not the full weather forecast. You hear that its 72 degrees now, but you don't know what the high or low temperatures will be or if it will rain later. Basically you get a very general answer.

She sat and waited. She knew that they would come. Listening intently, she heard footsteps approaching and then stopping outside. She smiled, whoever it was felt uncertain. There was a hesitant intake of breath and the door handle slowly turned. Pausing slightly, they entered the room.

 

She looked up, her pale blue eyes seeming to see far beyond the cold grey walls. She stood and spoke.

I have finally set my mind on a direction and I have to be honest. I am TERRIFIED. I just want to know if the Pattern agrees with the direction I have chosen.
