  1. 1. Will Mat be a letdown in AMOL?

There's still Shadar Harran and Fain that Mat can have a go at. Not to mention commanding the armies of the Light, both Rand's and the Seanchan. Plus, I can see Mat getting to kill a Forsaken. If they're at the Bore, the forsaken's going to ignore Mat and focus on the channelers, which combined with his foxhead medallion should give him a chance to take them out. Not to mention he's most likely going to get the Horn of Valere again. And deal with the Seanchan, and Egwene. Mat should be fine.

Like DPT24 already mentioned... I just have a feeling that Mat is going to be the one to kill Fain. Maybe with the effect that ruby hilt dagger had on Mat, perhaps he would be immune to any effect Fain's "zombie like" powers would have on him. Like all of my posts, I have absolutely nothing to back it up, but I've just got a feeling.

I voted that Mat will not be a let down. He could have a chapter only about his opinions on hats and I would be happy. He's that cool.

I still believe it will be Perrin, his heightened senses would be a formidable weapon against Fain's hi-jinks.

I think at some point, Bornhald is going to reveal to Perrin the truth behind the deaths of his family and he will have his vengeance.

Possible set up to the second time Perrin needs to be with Rand to boot?

Wow, tough question. But hopefully BS brings him out further. He was actually annoying to me this time. But alas, according to Egwene's dream where it shows him bowling down pins that represent thousands of enemies each with his iron balls from the Dragon cannons. So needless to say... theres gonna be so major pwning to do.

Hopefully we aren't disappointed.

This hasn't happened yet:

"Fortune rides like the sun on high

with the fox that makes the ravens fly.

Luck his soul, the lightning his eye,

He snatches the moons from out of the sky."

I'm fully expecting to see Mat on a raken with a handful of grenades made by Aludra..

All he needs to do is take one of Aludra's grenades whip one of those foxhead medallions around it and throw it at Demandred. And voila, dead Forsaken. Best he'd do it right in front of Elayne so she had a chance to realize that by copying the foxhead and supporting the Dragons she is largely responsible for enabling a future in which channellers are very easy to kill even by regular people.

Always pictured fain being handled by all 3 Ta'veren, since they all have something against him;

- killed Perrin's family

- The Mat + dagger deal

- The pure hatred of Rand amongst other things

i pictured all of 3 of them standing over fain as he dies, each with a badass comment

I think the last 2 books have been a buid up for Mat's total awesomeness so I'm expecting him to be epic in aMoL. And as for his roles, he has LOADS of stuff to do, the least of which is converting Tuon/Fortuona and being the great General for the Light against Demandred.

Actually, it could be something like kidnapping Fortuna from a flying raken ;) That would be cool ;)

I think Rand -> Shayol Ghul will be early in aMoL. He'll 'die' in some manner and will still be alive in another manner on a boat of some sort. Most of this book, at least the latter half, will be Mat taking the field against the Horde led by Demandred while Perrin struggles to keep the various nations united in the struggle.

So, I think the most important functions of Mat/Perrin are yet to come. Perrin is soon going to be the only leader acceptable to the Seanchan (through Tylin and her report to Tuon), the Aes Sedai (through Egwene), the Borderlanders (through Faile/Bashere), the Two Rivers (duh), Andor/Cairhien through the new alliance with Elayne, Mayene/Ghealdan through Berlaine/Alliandre. What's left? Tear/Illian? They're loyal to Rand and will be loyal to his apparent successor and friend (probably).

Mat? He'll be getting a lot of action I would imagine. Mat will be Patton to Perrin's Eisenhower.

You make a great point. Of Course mat is going to be the light force's general. But the commander in cheif needs politics. That could very well be perrib. Not exactly the same roles. Especially since Perrin would know to give mat a free hand

Rand: "How can I win the Last Battle and survive?"

Aelfinn: "The north and the east must be as one. The west and the south must be as one. The two must be as one. If you would live, you must die."

Mat + Seanchan = The West and the South

Perrin + Randland = The North and the East

The comment "Mat will be Patton to Perrin's Eisenhower." sounds pretty accurate to me.

Mat is by far the best field commander the Light has and Perrin is by far the best suited to keep everyone on the same page.

I can't wait for the day when Mat, Perrin, all the Aile chiefs, Agelmar Jagad, Davram Bashere, Gareth Bryne, and Rodel Ituralde meet in the same room....EPIC!

hmmm, the moons, daughter of the nine moons, perhaps? Matt, possibly bringing the Seanchan to TG, by convincing Tuon to come down off her high horse.

Mat is probably going to be the one who takes over command of the entire world's armies, and proceeds to win again and again against impossible odds.

Mat has to save Caemlyn, deal with Olver, and retrieve the horn. He will arrive at the WT to retrieve the horn at the same time as Tuon arrives to conquer it. Then he will likely command the Seanchan armies in the last battle as Tuon's warder. Then he will have to deal with Egwene wanting to destroy them all. :seanchan:

Mat's arc could be an entire novel in itself. Sheesh this book needs to be HUGE !

I think I found a bit of foreshadowing in ToM, the chapter where Mat meets Elayne in Caemlyn. When he is escorted by Captain Guybon they discuss various rumours about Mat. The rumours are not spot on, but pretty accurate. Except in one case - Mat is said to have killed one of the Forsaken. Wouldn't surprise me if this is foreshadowing...

Well, we know that Mat has a lot of things to do, but I bet he'll find time to slay one of the Forsaken, too. By accident/luck - he drops the foxhead into one of the dragons when it's firing and the resulting blast destroys the general Demandred who assumes he's safe underneath a shield of Air...

I was surprised to see only one post mention Shadar Harran.

I think Mat killing Shadar Harran is foreshadowed by "dance with jack o' the shadows", and by his killing Couladin which was completely unexpected and considered out of his league until he did it. Hopefully he doesn't kill Shadar Harran off-camera though. :P

What originally suggested this to me was the same thing that motivates this thread. Perrin has Slayer. Rand has a bunch of enemies. Mat has ... ? I would've said the gholam, but the gholam is dead. Shadar Harran would work though.

If I'm not mistaken, the Palace from which she was kidnapped from was often mentioned with themes of clouds and sky. I don't have the books with me right now, so I'm not sure of the exact name of the palace.
