I've been meaning to get to this for a while. This will just be a listing of the roles we have all created, grouped by author. Please just add yours, if you have new roles that have worked well for you. We'd love to have them!

Some of these are not original after all, but renamed. We thought they were original at the time. Still, you might like our versions, so we left them here.

Jack's:

Scholar: Innocent aligned; they get a reading of the person that posts after their first post of each game day.

Demigod: Innocent aligned, they can not be lynched on odd number days

Puppeteer: Innocent aligned, you target someone and you control his or her night actions. If you don't chose someone random . org will

Guardian angel: Innocent aligned, you pick one person beside yourself and that is who you protect the whole game; you can make your choice anytime.

Energy Tracer: Innocent aligned, you view a person and I will tell you whom they targeted for what night action.

Apothecary: Innocent aligned, I will pm you during twilight phase four ingredients, you pick two and I will pm you back with a potion/night action.

Watchmaker: Innocent aligned; you can choose any phase as long as it is half way into it (RL time) and fast-forward it to the end. This is a one-time ability.

Phoenix: Innocent aligned; if you are night killed you come back to life the day after the following night. If you are lynched you come back the next morning


Undertaker: Innocent aligned; I will pm you the role and alignment that a player has upon them becoming deceased, you can chose to reveal that information to the town or keep it secret.

Hopeless romantic: Innocent aligned; you fall in love with the person that posts before you. If they die then so do you, it is a one sided love affair so if you die they will still live

Cupid: Innocent aligned; they can target two players and make them lovers with their own qt board. They can only use the ability once.

Evil Priest: Mafia aligned; they can exorcize a player and turn them from being rolled to being vanilla

Juggler: Mafia aligned; Every night he or she can choose two people and switch their roles.

Suicide bomber: Mafia aligned; you can target another player in day phase and blow them up and yourself.

Voodoo priestess: Mafia aligned; you can target a player and give them a post restriction. If they break the restriction they will be modkilled.

Mirror: Mafia aligned; you may target a player, if they target you with a night action, it will be performed on them. IE if the finder views you they will get their alignment instead of yours.

Grave robber: You have a one time ability to select a dead player and absorb their role (Can work with any alignment)

Rewriter: They can select a dead player and rewrite the role pm (Alignment and ability) to another living player who then loses their original alignment and ability. (Any alignment)

Sampler: Select one player per night (Only useable for three nights) and you find out their ability, if you want it becomes yours with a reduced effectiveness (Any alignment)

Silver tongue: Can lie and not be detected by a lie detector (Mafia aligned)

Lock pick: If targeted by a jailkeeper, they turn the player into a conventional healer (Town Aligned)

Healer with a gun: You are a conventional healer, but if any of the people you target die in a latter point in the game you lose your healing ability for a vig kill. You only get one vig kill, and if you heal yourself you become a bomb. (Town aligned)

Analyzer: You can look at a lynch ballot and guess how many scum are on it, you will receive a less or more answer (Town aligned)

Miller maker: You target one player and they appear scum if they are viewed by a finder.

Diamond Cutter: Can turn any player with a percentage role to 100% effectiveness.

Russian Roulette: Mafia aligned - Targets a player at night. The Mod takes all submitted night actions and numbers them. Random.org picks a number. The player preforms that night action on that player.

Fight organizer: One player pits two players against each other. The two player has to guess a number or whatever the mod wants them to do. The one who gets closest to the number in the mod's head lives and the loser dies.


 

Lily's:

Double Agent (mafia) - Should you be recruited by the cult or recruiting mason, you retain your original alignment, and win with the mafia.

Genie (although this can be varied to suit the game) (town) - Every day you must try to get someone to say the word “wish” without actually using the word “wish” yourself. If you are successful, you double that person’s ability. You may choose to not double them, but you must send me a PM to that effect. Otherwise they will be doubled. (I would vary the trigger word from day to day in the future, to make the role more challenging.)

Ninja (solo) - You will view as “not mafia” or "town" depending on what results the mod gives out. You will view as no night actions if viewed by anyone. Every night action you take will go unnoticed. You have the ability to kill on even numbered nights. You win if you are still alive when the game is down to three or less players. (Different than mafiascum's ninja.)



 

Kivam's faves: (it was unclear if he created these, but they are priceless, so they are included regardless)

Village Idiot - submits a name for a random effect. Sometimes I will give the player examples (heal/finder/kill), sometimes I won't. Either way, I assign various effects to dice rolls (for example, 4 and 10 = heal the target; 7 = mirror the target; etc.) and use Random's dice roller to roll 2 standard dice and determine the effect. It's obviously expandable to more dice (or more sides) if you want more effects with fewer odds

Ambitious mafioso - Mafia member who is actually a solo winner (wins if tied with a townie, but not if tied with fellow mafia member). Typically, I'll pair this with

Aware mafioso - Mafia member is told one or more of their teammates may be ambitious. May not reveal that fact on-thread or to his teammates.

Schizoid - this role only works if you are playing with the mafia alts: assign two players to a single alt, and give them different win conditions

Detective/Handler: Pairs with a finder. Directs the Finder's investigations (submits name to mod via PM) but does not receive results (the finder does not PM names, just gets results from the mod). If the Detective dies, the finder can self direct. Detective may not reveal on-thread



 

Aemon's:

Historian - can see all the actions recieved by a person during the game.

Scrambler - If this person is lynched, everyone on the lynch gets their roles randomly reassigned.

Ventriloquist - On odd/even days can take over the voice of another player. The controlled player can only post what is PMed to them from the alt account.

Summon Spirit - Calls a dead player back from the grave to anonymously give advice. Note to self: would work better without a dead thread.

Contractor- Starts the game with ten contracts. Can offer up to 4 contracts per night phase. If the contract is accepted, the player accepting the contract agrees to place their vote the way the contractor wants in exchange for a one-shot ability.


 

Locke's:

Sacrifice: The player gets to view the coroner's report of everyone who dies before they die (excluding Mod kills of course) and can choose to sacrifice themself and die in someone's place. One time ability, obviously. (Not exactly the nicest individual role, but can be useful for the team. Tongue)

Soulsearcher: A mafia player who each Night has a chance (percentages can vary according to Mod's wishes) to convert to the town.

I used Village idiot in a game years ago, so I don't think that one is original, those were in the days of Fiddleton, I think I did it on Pirates and smuggling, lol In fact it was Fiddleton-on-sea. Dsage had the role but he wasn't around to really use it. I can't remember too much about the details. but it would have played a bit of havoc for all in the game!

Yep - I stole the idea from you and then tweaked it (you had set actions each night, IIRC, with the same "idiot doesn't know what's coming" rule).

anti-town roles

Political Symp - You have the ability to stop 4 separate lynch attempts targeting any members of the Ministry. You may view their QT board but not participate in the conversation.

Imperious Curse Caster - You choose one person each Day, to include Day 1, and the person chosen is blocked from doing their action. Instead the Mafia gains control of their action for the corresponding Day or Night. The spell wears off once next day breaks and the same person cannot be Imperio’d back to back

 

Ninja - So long as you are alive, your teams actions are immune to Trackers & Blockers.

 

Serial Killer Cultist - You are immune to nk’s on Odd #’d nights, and have the ability to kill once every cycle. Your kill can be submitted either during the Day or Night. Every 4th Phase you have the option to either recruit or kill a person. If you recruit the person you will turn them into a vanilla cult and assume their power as an immediate onetime use power. You will also be given the link to a Cult QT Board to talk off thread with all recruited individuals.

 

 

Town Roles

 

Elder Wand - Your role protects you from 1 lynch or nk. This is a one time use ability that is enacted automatically, once you are disarmed (once it is used) you will become a Vinilla.

 

Resurrection Stone - You have the ability to bring 1 person back from the dead. If you still retain the stone and are targeted for a lynch or nk, your ability will automatically resurrect you as a Vinilla

 

Graveyard Robber - The ‘Graveyard Robber’ is a one time use role. Anytime during the game you can pick a dead person and assume their role at 100%.

 

Siblings - You share the ability to assign a PR to one person for a single Day Cycle with George, you may not assign a PR to the same person for 2 consecutive Days. If George is killed, you cannot post for the corresponding Day Cycle but you will retain the ability to hand out the PR and is issued a special ability. Special Ability turns into a Vig ability for the alive Sibling with limited # of shots.

 

Demi-God - There is a list of 14 one use abilities, each night you pm me a number 1 through 14 and I will inform you of which ability you received for that night. Once a # is chosen, it cannot be chosen again and the ability has to be used that night otherwise it is forfeited,

 

Martyr - You have the ability to sacrifice yourself for a person. You PM me at the start of each Day Phase with a the DM Handle of the person you wish to protect from a Lynch or NK. If the person you’re protecting is targeted for either a lynch or nk then you will die instead and a special condition will be unlocked for you. Special Condition: you will be resurrected if your protection is complete; your aligment will depend on what alignment the person you protected had.

 

Time Turner - You have the ability to restart a Day Cycle at any point via Pming me before the lynch is made. This is a One time use ability.

 

Day Finder - You PM me the DM handle of one person each Day , including Day 1, and will receive a 75% chance of an accurate viewing of alignment.

 

Day Commuter - You can choose to leave the game during the beginning of each Odd Day Cycle (including Day 1). Your vote and ability to gain powers that day will be forfeited if you commute, but you will be unlynchable and immune to traps for that day.

Also, that was the most confusing game ever. Starting town, went cult, turned Mafia. Also, real funny. Esp when the cultists discovered I had turned Mafia and had ratted everything on their QT. *wrinkles nose* Not the proudest moment, but it was great nonetheless.

In the Disney Princess Masquerade Ball mafia I made up a role for Aladdin that I called Wisher. He had three wishes during the game. He could chose from: nk, find out someones alignment, rb, get a double vote, end day or night early or send a message to another player. He could only use each ability one time and only use one every day/night. IDK if this role already exist with another name but I haven´t found it anywhere.

You should dig up the create-a-role games I ran. I'll run another one when my turn rolls around.

 

I still have the role I created for that somewhere. I've never used it. I'd love to play in one of those.

This is the one I don't get. Alt account?? Aren't we only allowed one account per person?

I definitely just checked these roles out when I was trying to decide on a role for your game, Pandy. And I almost used one, but then I decided to go with something else ;)

Its a premade account belonging to admin for such purposes.

 

From what I can tell, you've been playing mafia an even shorter time than I have, so how does a newbie such as yourself stumble onto this knowledge, EP?
