Actually, the Fat Man fails in one important way: it has been discussed a fair bit. The downfall of so many other theories on this thread.

At some point you have to seriously question how comprehensive BS's memory of the forum discussions could possibly be.  His remark was most likely somewhat flippant, and didn't entail hours of research on the multiple forums stretching back years.  Everything has been discussed at some point or another.  Most of the things on this thread don't approach the level of Asmodean's killer (which he specifically mentioned as a thing that gets discussed a lot).  Most of them aren't anywhere nearly as topics as that topic.

I bet you anything it will be something that's been discussed (and likewise dismissed by the forumAddicts) just not so much as to gain widespread attention.

Most people don't live on the forum, and visit it once in a while, or frequently for small periods of time.

BS fully admitted he could have missed us talking about it because he wasn't on all the time, so for me I'm only ignoring HUGE story arcs, like callandor.

OK, so this is my theory for the unnoticed thing.  I've only seen this idea mentioned once on any of the forums (as far as I can recall) so maybe BS missed it on the forums too.  I'll give you a little lead in. . .

In CoS from Sammael's POV when speaking to Sevanna after having given her the binder/oath rod, he says: "There is a thing called a binding chair.  Binding people who cannot channel is more difficult than binding those who can.  Perhaps a binding chair survived the Breaking . . ."

The "unnoticed" thing (perhaps) is that the crystal throne is a binding chair, but even more than that . . . Rand has one of his own.

BOOK 4:  (at the central square in Rhuidean) pg. 678 reads: "he [Rand] shoved a plain-carved chair of red crystal aside . . ."

BOOK 5:  (once again looking over the square in Rhuidean) pg. 57 reads: "Directly below him lay a vast plaza . . . littered with a jumble of statues and crystal chairs . . ."

I couldn't find the other quote I was looking for, but I remember that there was a description of a Seanchan coin in one of the books (I believe somewhere between books 4 and 8 ) where it is described as having a picture of a stern faced woman on the front and a sturdy, plain-looking chair on the back.

(I also couldn't find any mention of whether it was one of the ter'angreal Moiraine had put on the wagons to take into Cairhien.)

All this leads me into some pretty big questions: with Seanchan in turmoil and civil war, even though Fortuona presumably has access to Traveling now, will she have access to her precious Crystal throne?  I'm sure she will try to secure it (so that the Dragon can kneel before it), but will she be able to?  Might a rival claimant have hidden it away?  Will she have to "borrow" Rand's to solidify her position as Empress in the lands she does hold?  Is this how Rand will be able to "bind the nine moons to him?"

Seems pretty likely to me!

The consensus for awhile now is that the Crystal Throne is some sort of chair of compulsion, while I don't think that's the thing , I do think you're absolutely right and we'll be seeing it.

Not unless it's brought from Seanchan to Main-Randland.

Well when they learn traveling.

Edit: Or knowing WoT, we'll see in the prologue of ToM some Seanchan noble unloading the throne from a boat in Falme. lol

I understood the Crystal Throne to be a ter'angreal that caused people to feel awe. I do agree, though, that the chairs in Rhuidean could be binding chairs. I wonder if they will have any part to play.

edit: Found this in The World of WoT:

"The Crystal Throne itself is a great ter'angreal that causes anyone who approaches it to feel immense awe and wonder."

The Seanchan seem pretty umm...Stuck on tradition and I get the idea that moving THE Crystal Throne from the capital or wherever it's at is probably something that isn't done.

You could use that to argue the other side as well ... maybe the empress never makes a public appearance except when seated upon the Crystal Throne.

True enough I suppose. Then again maybe she doesn't make public appearances anywhere but the palace or whatever they call the place they keep it.

Yeah, I would definitely be disappointed if all those angreal in Rhuidean don't end up doing anything, I still believe they will.. but it's more a hope than anything.

Well, Avi is going there soon :)

Isn't all the good stuff now in a warehouse in Carhein?

I can't remember if they grabbed EVERYTHING, I'll check back in the book

Do we know if the door to the finns in Rhuidean was taken?

sorry, im of the school that the therapy session wasnt that great, i was likeing the grim/dark feel of the series in the later book. moiraine and lanfear falling into th ter'angreal, however, have a very big part to play in the coming storyline, especially as rand NeeDS moiraine to succeed, if we belive min. and shes not really been wrong yet.

Okay I havent a chance of reading all of the discussions here but I wonder if its either about Fain or Slayer. Slayer more so, because he is definitely important. Fain obviously is, but Slayer is a real big mistery. Luc was sent to the Blight, which had something to do with Tarmon Gaidon IIRC? Thats what we should be wondering about IMO. Slayer gets a hell of a lot less discussion that Fain has on these boards

Fortuona is able to handle damane which means she can learn to channel.  A simple adam will do the trick nicely.

Go back several pages.  The answer to this topic lies there.  The key is:  "why books 4 through 6?".

Those books concentrate on Rand gaining trust for the Aiel.  He is the dragon.  They are the people of the dragon.  He (and we) has no clue that there are darkfriends among them.  One key element to winning battles and wars is the element of surprise.  The shadow forces will surprise him at the last battle by having vast numbers of Aiel darkfriends in their midst.  When the darkfriend and non-darkfriend Aiel are done stabbing each other, only a "remnant of a remnant" will remain.

Just an opinion.  ;)

My reasons for why the Crystal Throne and/or Rhuidean Ter'angreals are a great idea:

1.  Aviendha will be going back to Rhuidean shortly, and she has the ability to figure out what ter'angreal do.  Surely this will be important to the plot...

2.  Rand does need to "bind" the Nine Moons to him.  What better way than with either a) a ter'angreal like the Crystal Throne or b) a different ter'angreal like the Oath Rod?  Very cool thinking.

3.  We know the next book is called Towers of Midnight, so it can be assumed that at least a small part of the book will be about the Seanchan and/or even possibly the very Towers of Midnight in Seandar themselves.

4. Fortuona and the Seanchan very likely know Traveling now, and IMO, the first thing she would do would be to Travel to Seanchan and grab the Crystal Throne.  Some have said they don't think the Throne will ever leave Seanchan because of tradition or what-not, but I disagree.  The Seanchan's intentions were to eventually take over Randland, and, IMO, completely leave Seanchan to "reclaim the land that was their's."  It makes sense that the Crystal Throne would be eventually put into the new Seanchan capital city (They were probably hoping that city would be Tar Valon, but for now, it is Ebou Dar).

5.  Even if the Crystal Throne isn't the "Big Thing" I think the ter'angreal in Rhuidean will play an important role.
