Writer's strike

It may not affect Season 2 directly, as I believe it's in post production right now and... it's likely to release sometime™ this  year. Indirectly, anyone in the guild can't promote it, talk about their work, put it up for nominations, etc.

Season 3, will be both directly and indirectly affected. Let's say all the scripts are completed, they can continue doing work on S3 barring any rewrites. Since Rafe is a writer,  he might be a guild member. If he is, he may not be able to work on the show at all even though he's a showrunner. Depending on the structure of everything, if he can't work on it, it's possible no one can.

If it's compartmentalized enough, then people can. Set & costume designers can go nuts for months working on the stuff they need to work on. Stunt coordinators can keep stuntin', and directors/actors can shoot some scenes, or even get some post-production in.

S4, is going to be hugely impacted... depending on how long this lasts.

Season 2 is probably safe, with a rumored Summer or Fall release it's likely Season 2 will go on.  I was reading that Rings of Power Season 2 won't be affected since they had planned for this in advance.  Any writer/producer can't help, but any producer not credited as a writer can still oversee production.  WOT probably had taken a possible strike into account.

I did find this:

"Amazon, HBO, Warner Bros. TV, NBCUniversal, Disney, CBS Studios and other major struck studios will be suspending some first-look and overall deals amid the ongoing writers strike.

Sources close to the situation tell Variety that Amazon will be sending letters out Monday notifying those affected. The studio does have some carveouts for creatives who are rendering producing services but non-writing."

Doesn't look good for season 3 unless they had most of the writing already finished.

Since S3 was just starting filming, they could probably do first block at least. The scripts for the seasons are done, but its on-set adaptations and fixes that that can't be done.  If it was late in filming in reshoots, that would be very difficult without writers, and if it was earlier in the process and the season wasn't written yet, it would be very difficult too. But right at this point, they can probably do a fair bit of the filming and hope that the strike is over by the time for reshoots comes for block 1.  There will probably be more need than reshoots than usual, so that means keeping sets intact. Hopefully there's not a huge number of sets to build and take down.

I have read into the writers strike so I could have a bit of context. It's very unfortunate that writers are not being compensated fairly. Before I began the WoT series I had no previous emotions towards this topic.

However, after reading the books and watching the first season I came to witness the WoT series grow in popularity. It's almost as it Amazon knew that they would be able to gain a greater return on their investment while getting viewers hooked going into S2. Streaming has skyrocketed.

I think streaming companies like Amazon will influence post production and filming in the future. This is because budgets will more than likely increase.

I'm hoping S3 isn't effected. Fans around the world have already been on quite a rollercoaster with S2.

Checked with my buddy who is a part of the Writer's Guild strike, as a prop master. He said there's no way they would be carrying on  production such as auxiliary shoots due to the strike, it's not just the writers.

It would be the entire production crew (grip, dolly, props, camera guys, etc.) shut down, according to him.

So definitely going to impact the release time of S2 if stuff isn't completely wrapped up and ready to  go prior to the strike.

S3 is obviously impacted as well.

I personally also support the strike, you need to defend your rights to well paid work!

I, on the other hand, am excited to see how they adapt one of my favourite books in the series.  The Book that, I believe, shifts WoT from run of the mill fantasy to something special.

Now with actors joining in on the writers strike, I expect Season three filming will or has been shut down.

Does anyone know if that's the case ? Will the expansion of the strike affect the release date of the full season two trailer ?

According to WOT-UP, season three is still filming, Apparently, only Daniel Henney & Rosamund Pike are actual SAG members from the cast so they are the only actors NOT filming, per Jon at WOT-UP.

But the strikes will most likely delay the release of season three.

Even with all that I'm SOO stoked that the season two trailer is coming tomorrow  (EST) at 9 AM. 😄 !!
