"The Wheel keeps on turning." is what we all still remember Tam al'Thor telling Rand on Season 1 Episode 1 of The Wheel of Time. It is lesson that is carried both through the books and through the three seasons before the show's cancellation. 

It remains especially true today when it comes to what this fandom can do.

We are very excited to share the news that Rob, also known by the online handle "MalkierTalks", has just announced a Go Fund Me campaign to help him fund the creation & production of a documentary about the creation of The Wheel of Time show, known as: 

 Turning the Wheel: The Story Behind the Fantasy Epic

"Turning the Wheel: The Story Behind the Fantasy Epic will be an independent documentary series exploring the complete journey of Amazon's The Wheel of Time television series — from the earliest dreams of adaptation to the lasting legacy it leaves behind not just on television, but also on the community." 

This ambitious project already has a wide range of cast & crew that have agreed to interviews, including S2 & 3 Costume Designer Sharon Gilham, Stunt Coordinator Jan Petrina, & Actor Priyanka Bose, along with conversations with members of the fan community, to create a complex weave of those who's passion helped create this a reality on our screens, and the passion of the fans who refuse to halt the turning of the wheel.

We connected with Rob, to ask him a few questions about this project:
 

Q: Your creative contributions have always been such a constant in the fandom for as long as I (Kevin) have been a part of this, and so this project feels like such a natural next step for you. How long has this idea been in the works for you behind the scenes?

A: "I have been working on this idea in various ways since October 2025. I have always enjoyed watching documentaries and I had just recently watched one about Harrison Ford, as well as one about ILM, the special effects company that made Star Wars, and the idea just sort of popped into my head. Sharon had been doing the costume exhibition & I wanted more WoT. So, as I have with many of my ideas, I said "F*** it! I am gonna see if I can pull this off". It was the same mentality I applied when I decided to create MalkieriCon in Europe. 
So I studied how you pitch a show, looking up examples online etc., and build a pitch for it, then sent it to a couple of friends in the industry to get their thoughts, and made the needed tweaks. That was the moment it went from trying to talk Amazon/Sony into letting me do it, and instead became something independent. After that it was trying to work the few contacts I have to hopefully build more, and secure a couple of people I considered key to making this documentary the story I knew it could be, bringing together a team of wonderful minds & souls in the fandom to bounce ideas with, finding an editor....easy stuff of course haha."

Q: I won't put the cart before the Bela, but if you are able to meet and exceed your modest funding goal, are there any "dream" interviews you'd hope to be able to secure and make happen with that support?

A: "The £5K is a very modest funding goal but I wanted to start with something achievable first. I know documentaries typically cost far, far more than that, but I am lucky that many people who have said yes are in and around Europe, which makes things a bit easier. As for those further afield, while it would be amazing to interview them in person, I will do virtual interviews if needed. I would rather have their stories in the film via a virtual interview than not at all just because I couldn't fly to interview them in person. That all being said, I do have stretch goals so the more we can raise, the more I hope to deliver. Regarding dream interviews, I think sitting down with any of the main cast would be amazing, obviously Daniel Henney because of my content name. Rosamund is such a busy person, as well as such a huge name, it would be incredible to go to her & be able to ask her questions. Obviously Zoe & Maddie are a fair stretch of the legs away...but I will never say no!"

Q: Was there a person, or group conversation you had that inspired this idea that you'd like to give any Ji to? 

A: "There are a few people - Meg & Jenn from our podcast Three Wheeling to start. I voiced the idea in our group chat first and Meg was immediately there with enormous levels of support, likewise was Jenn, who also gave her professional opinion on my pitch. Dan, a friend in LA I made though my WoT adventures also gave me his professional advice - credit to him for pushing me towards doing this independently too. A quick shout out to Kritter, who although hasn't been involved with this reminded me years ago of what Wayne Gretski always said - "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take". That always stays in my mind now. And honestly, this might sound really cheesy, but it's true - I want to give Ji to the fandom as a whole. The way this community treats itself, & others, is always so inspiring to me. Even though things are quieter these days, and the socials aren't buzzing like they used to, the sense of togetherness & family & support is all still there. I couldn't, and wouldn't, be making this documentary if I didn't know how much it will mean to everyone in this community."

Q: Can we set something up where I can talk to Ceara Coveney? (because I had to know...)

A: "Oh man, getting to meet Ceara again is on the list for sure (please call me Ceara!). I am not sure I am over meeting her at the costume exhibition thanks to Sharon's sneaky surprise arrangements. She gave me 5 minutes warning that it was happening folks. FIVE! But yeah, I would be down for having you join me at an interview with Ceara. I will for sure be asking her about fandom interactions if that happens. I am very curious what she would say?"

Q: Anything else you'd like to say to the cast, crew, and/or fandom as a whole?

A: "I certainly want to thank those cast & crew who have said yes to an interview. There is no certainty they will all happen - the industry can flip on a coin - but I really appreciate their enthusiasm. At the end of the day, I am just another fan. I am not even in the industry, let alone known for making documentaries, so to have the response from them that I have gotten is something really special. Another shout out to those mentioned above who encouraged me from the start and to my writers room. I won't name them all in case they'd rather not be named, but their input has significantly helped this idea grow and evolve! "
