Voting format discussion

I also get a bit confused about the voting format even though I try to only play one game at a time. It´s easiest for me to see red and bold but it makes it hard to vote on phone. Vote tags would be wonderful. :)

Yes but people write "vote" all the time. On a normal page you'd get hits on:

"Wanna explain that vote?"

"I'm tempted to vote X, but could also vote Z"

"Then he voted X, got some heat for it, backtracked, and voted Z who had the biggest vote train at the time"

"This and this person should move their votes"

"We need 5 more votes to secure a lynch"

And then you add the quotes of votes and... It takes a while to find the actual votes.  You still have the problem with people quoting votes with ##, but it more than halves the potential results on each page.

Yeah, I like using special characters.  As for the thing about people getting confused about voting formats between games, that can easily be fixed by people actually reading and familiarizing themselves with the rules.  There are plenty of other essential mechanics that can change between games, so you should be doing that anyways.  Suck it up.

I like the ##vote tags, only cause that can be searched so much easier. I think it's a nice thing if it stands out too, new line, bolded, colored, or all of them.

I tend to be a traditionalist. I like the bold and red. I can deal with the plain bold but don't like it when a mod will refuse to accept any votes with the red. What really grinds my gears is when a player will get all pissy over their vote not being counted when it isn't properly formatted. Really? How do I know that you aren't deliberately vote failing as a ploy? The last few games I have modded this has happened and it's getting really annoying.

Oh and glow was idiotic. Glow was moronic. I wasn't on DM when we used it but I have been in games on Myndjack. I found it hard to read and often had to mouseover text that was glowed. My first reaction to glow was WTF is this garbage. Glad we don't use it anymore.

Hate to tell you, but glow was on dm years ago and predated myndjack.

If someone can't handle multiple games, there is a simple solution: sign up to only one.

I agree with Wombat that maybe people should read the rules and get into the game atmosphere enough to remember how to vote. That should also help separating those games in your mind.

As a mod, I prefer just bolded, but my last few games have been where you vote for different things with different colored text, so I've had to use the red. If I ever go back to normal games, I'll ask that votes be just bolded. And I won't count anything other than that. It's a favorite scum tactic of mine to mess up a vote so I look like I'm town who just made a mistake. I want to allow my players that opportunity.

I would think it'd be easier to give them the opportunity if you did require the bold and red.

I also happen to like glow and vote tags.  Vote tags simply bold and red + increase in size by typing [v] darthe [/v] but I don't think that is a go for here.

Verbal seems to be a fan of the idea and is pushing it to other admins I think.

I would like a vote tag. It would make things convenient, and a tag which is specifically meant for voting might lead to a uniform standard for all DM games, which would be good IMO.

If it made the text glow, I would stick to requiring plain bold and red even if I was the only mod to do so.

If they get it wrong tough. Because of exactly what you said Basel.

I had to vote in Darthes game and had to go back and check what format to use because i had been bouncing between 2 games. Apparently people on m,obile cant get back to page 1 easily iirc.

Also Bas  the glow on MJ wasn't as good as DMs. But i did like glow.

If theres going to be a button for voting then im all for that and it would probably make this discussion pointless lol

Sorry Basel, many of us liked the DM glow.  It was better than the MJ glow, and really stood out.

True story.  I'll get those tags in eventually.

I didn't realize they were different.

I only saw MJ glow.

So what was different about the DM glow? And if it was so good, why was it removed to begin with?
