Sorry, I just wanted to get why, since she's played in both places and all but again I'm sorry if it came out in the wrong way

So I read through here, and I'm a little bit surprised that I'm actually kinda split on the issue. I guess my view is closest to Nolder's. I think technically anything is an option for someone to use in mafia to gain an advantage, but I still think its somewhat taboo to lie about RL. I guess its one of those "violates the spirit of the law but not quite the letter of it" type things. I would personally never lie about RL stuff because I like achieving a true victory. Winning because of sleazy moves feels lame. Like if you're mafia and most of town is inactive, it just doesn't feel like a very good win. I like the challenge of going against the odds and winning because you just so happened to be a better player or at least made the better play.

I would agree with this.  The one time I did it I was relatively new and though it got me off the hot seat it didn't change how I played and ultimately imo it was not as fun a way to play as it would have to succeed through my own merits or fail through my lack thereof.

You're good buddy, we are all just trying to be nice and calm about our fun because tensions run a little high when considering such a stressful game.

I disagree with your post Nolder, but I'm not going to say anything more before I look more like a b*tch than I already do.

I don't think that's the case. Like I said in my post I understand where you're coming from and I feel it myself from time to time. I believe I made a thread awhile back asking what people thought of invite only games and that's kind of the position I was coming from at the time. Like I really sympathize with wanting to have a good time whatever your version of that may be, we all want that you know? Sometimes someone will do something dumb or, my recent pet peeve, lurk and it'll just totally ruin a game for me and I'll think "hey you know what would be awesome? If I could just play with the people I like/know are good at mafia. That would be great!" and it probably would be. But meanwhile other people would be left in the dust and that sucks both because they're getting left out and they're not getting the opportunity to get better.

So yeah I don't think you look like a jerk for wanting to just play with the people you like to play with. It's not like it's your job to help people get better at mafia or make games more diverse lol.

I think part of the reason I have the dislike for the elitism as I describe it, is just me being bitter. When I first started playing here a lot of the old vets still played somewhat regularly. Kivam, lily, jack, verb (although he still signs up for games here and there), mynd, red, man I could keep going on. So many great players even tho they all had such distinctive styles. I understand RL is part of he reason some quit playing, bit for those who can still play I wish they would more often. And I want lily to do a mall madness game again, that last one was awesome

Basically, every time I see one of the old vets saying they can't play or don't want to play with us anymore, it reminds me of those times. There's no reason we couldn't recreate those tines again imo.

You want another Mall Madness game? I had retired that concept, but if there's a demand for it, I'll put one together.

I never played in any of them, but I've heard stories. I'd love to play in one.

It's a game I once modded, and then there was a sequel. There are X number of stores in the mall. Each night (starting with night 0) the players vote for which store they want to spend the next day in. In each store there is an event (anything from a new role being born to instant death.) Each event has a trigger (3rd person to post, 2nd smiley used, etc.) They are random things, so there's no way to hit them on purpose. Oh, and players can talk off thread all they want to whomever they want. That gets a little crazy, but it's fun to watch.

I thought I replaced you in the last? One. That was the one Ithi tricked Mynd. All I had to do was place the last vote. Easy enough that even I couldn't mess it up.

Hey Turin. Been a while since we've had some good mafia interaction

Been really busy with staff stuff. Pretty much only have enough time to play one game at a time. Those are generally BT games cause I need to keep them active as possible. Only game I played other than that was the last DPR game and of course I got killed N1.

I thought about signing up for Peace's game but I don't know how much time I will have to keep up with his post requirement. I never know what my schedule will be.

I'd like to play in another. I was really interested in the one I was in but iirc I got knocked out pretty quick, before the game really got going.

Oooh Lily I'd love that. I really liked your Halloween game and it gave me a few of the ideas that I used in my HG-mafia with the triggers. Loved it.

Reading this thread I have a lot of thoughts but if I had to think of one important point it's the following:

For people to improve, they need to play. To get more veterans, we need to get more new people to play and people to continue playing. This should be a priority. If you aren't happy with the level or quality of play, set an example. Be helpful, whether it's during or post game, offer advice or help and play the type of game you want others to play. We need new players and people to keep at it or else it's just not going to work. If you don't want to do things like that then still play but don't complain, as you are doing nothing to improve the situation or the caliber of the people that you play with and who want to play.

Bottom line is it's a game. I think that to play the game we need to be enjoying ourselves. Yes, like any other game, you won't necessarily enjoy them all or always be happy with your play. But if you generally have a good time and play with friends then hopefully it'll keep you coming back. Or points, those help too.

If this place had rep I'd give you some.

RTE, I hear what you're saying, and if that was the issue, I'd happily play here more. The problem is that you can't teach sportsmanship, and if the majority doesn't agree with me on what sportsmanship is, there really isn't a lot I can do. I don't think there is a solution to my problem, which is why I limit the games I play in here on DM.

Modding, however, is a different story. I can enforce sportsmanship in my games.
