has mat [and his ter angreal] met cadsuane yet?

Well seeing as how she has one that functions the exact same I don't see it throwing her off much. Further Mat doesn't strike me as the type she would take issue with.

She would take issue with his swearing.

And, the fact that he shows as little respect for AS as he can get away with.

Am I the only one who want to see Juilin Sandar and Hurin meet? Think of the conversations they would have:

- discussing the subtle differences between thief catcher and thief taker

- complain about how their role in the books has diminished as time has gone on

- console each other about how poorly their were treated by the main characters

- compare the relative merits of sword breakers with 1 vs 3 notchs

As does Cads if the situation call for it. No, she is a fine judge of character and would most likely see what he is actually about from the start. Mat is the same way, he doesn't show little respect for AS for no reason. I honestly think they would get on just fine. She may think he's a rogue but that isn't anything she would take exception with.

I think they would both grumble about each other, but not really mind the company.

I'm not sure what Jordan-Cadsuane's reaction to Jordan-Mat would be. Something unexpected, to be sure. She'd likely ask him to consider accepting a bond.

I suspect Brandon-Cadsuane and Brandon-Mat will be precisely as Sid described.

Mat would dance around in motley, and Cadsuane would attempt to kill him with the power.

Hilarious...but sadly all too true given the books current state.

Exaggerate much? Oh thats right, because Sanderson hates you and wants to make you cry. Give over.

I actually agree with Suttree's initial assessment, she might remark on his bad manners and or language, but likely would respond to him based on how clever/foolish he is being at the time, but otherwise she will have bigger fish to fry. I dont see a likely scenario where Cadsuane has a reason to use the power on him, so the foxhead medallion is moot.

As to asking to bond Mat, why would she? She has already clearly state that she is too old to take a warder, and she often refers internally that she feels that she doesnt have much time left. Her musing on taking Rand's bond was obviously a special case, as she was clearly looking at every angle at a way to influence (to say it nicely) the Dragon Reborn in her rehabilitation attempts.

You would have said the exact same thing about Tam and yet we get caricature Cads doing just that.

Further he has turned Mat ino a jester all too often. BS admitted as much in that he tried to make Mat so funny he lost the character.

All in all did Sid exaggerate for humor? Yeah of course. is it that far off what we have actually got? No, not at all.

Sanderson's Cadsuane is not nearly as ridiculous as you indicate. The Tam-Cadsuane confrontation is obvious a big point of contention here on Dragonmount, but the way you are extrapolating this to Sanderson treating Cadsuane like a cackling villian and Mat as a literal cartoon is clearly going overboard. That scene was clearly indicated to be a clear culmination of all of Cadsuane's work, and Tam's response obviously showed that the plan failed and Rand was going off the deep end. It was high tension - Cadsuane's last attempt ended up an apparent dogs dinner, and Tam and Nynaeve and Cads were all clearly angry and blaming each other and frustrated, Cads clearly has issues with poor manners, and Sanderson used an old trope in the WOT of a channel lifting up a non channeler to make a point. These were exceptional IS THIS THE END OF THE WORLD circumstances. You and others feel that Cadsuane was mischaracterized here... I myself would have preferred a more nuanced development of the confrontation myself. But Sanderson has written several other Cadsuane scenes in the 2 books and he doesnt write her using the power on other like this anywhere else. He gives her her due as well. Mat is written as more fool, less rogue often in Sanderson's books, but he isnt a cartoon character either.

Actually, what I did find interesting about Sanderson's version of Mat was his inclusion of other characters that Mat has around him (Talmanes) more than I remember them being included in his humor. There's much more banter between Mat and certain characters that wasn't there before, imo. That may have been because of the void Nalsean left.

I'll go a bit more minor for a few select encounters:

Basel Gill and Bran al'Vere

Siuan Sanche and Marin al'Vere, from Egwene's PoV

Halwin Norry and Sebben Balwer

Galgan and Ituralde

Narishma and Bode Cauthon, from Mat's PoV

Anyone and one of Egwene's sisters

I doubt it'll ever happen, but I'd like to see a meeting of sorts with Mat going back to Emond's Field, specifically to see his parents. We never got to see him with either of them, nor his sisters, which I kind of wanted. It's a very minor point though, so, like I said, unlikely to happen.

But I can dream =P

great meetings FanoLan :)

another meeting i forgot to mention:

Daizy Conger and Nyn (and it may be very interesting if the PoV is from daizy)

Thanks Elric. I think it was "Daise" and it would be interesting to hear from her on the changes in TR. With the way all the members of the original gang speak of the Coplins and Congars, one has to wonder about the apparently most respected member of the extended clan.

Mat's father actually gets a good bit of "screen time" side by side with Tam during the fight for the TR. Tam and Abell are on the lam and Perrin encounters them at the old sick house where Verin and Alanna are camping, but you're right, no interactions with Mat.

actually Abel may get more screen time, he was held in high esteem and put in charge of a group of defenders in EF, so he may be brought out again to help lead (although I would prefer it if he was in charge of a group of scouts or some such)
