What will everyone do after the Last Battle?

Was just thinking, provided they win, what do you think the aftermath will be, and where and what will the main characters end up doing?

For instance, the obvious (to me!);

Egwene will be Amyrlin Seat at Tar Valon. with political power being shared with Logain as leader of the Ashaman. They will dedicate their powers to helping, healing and defending the lands.

Elayne will be Queen of Andor.

Darlin will remain king of Tear.

Berelain will remain First of Mayene, with Galad as husband and leader of the Whitecloaks now based there (with gateways, distances not really an issue anymore).

Now for my preferences;

Rand is Lord of The Two Rivers.

Mat to be steward of The Two Rivers AFTER Perrin abdicates to take the Saldean crown.

Elayne hands over Cairhienin power to either Moraine or Dobraine (wild hope).

Lan reclaims Malkier with Nynaeve as queen (like in her testing).

Tuon allies herself with the rest (keeping what she's got including Amadicia) and helps repel any invasion from the Saendar Seanchan (if there is any). Ideally, her armies get wiped out in the Last battle, and she lives like a good housewife with Mat

Hmm, what else... can't think been awake for 30 hours now. Anyone else?

hmmm well first most of the survivors starve to death. then there is the plague that kills more of them. (during a famine people get sick. historical fact.) some countries collapse into warring factions for resources. borderland kingdoms suffer a civil war or waring with each other or sweep south. you don't have that many trained soldiers just sitting around without using them. no blight idle solders. WT and BT after years of negotiating combine and try to tie other channelers to them.

rand dies, his bond holders become useless for a while. then fight for survival. mat does his best to hold andor together. if he survives, if not he joins the heros of the horn. seanchen lands hold steady, generals braking away with new kingdoms. tuon holds altier as her kingdom. lan and nyn refound their kingdom just in time to get involved in a war with neighbors. perrin ends up prince consort with his wife.

Well, assuming all three of the Two Rivers Boyz actually survive, which is unlikely, I think the rest is pretty obvious.

- Rand acquires several semi-successful jo-car dealerships.

- Mat becomes a real estate agent.

- Perrin teaches gym at Emond's Field High.

Utter rubbish.

Rand becomes Eddie Murphy in Holy Man.

Mat starts up a shortlived Casino franchise, closes down after allegations of loaded dice. He now helps his wife at her dog training clinic.

Perrin stars and directs the new act, 'Talking with Wolves'. It's a hit.

Rand as leader of a united tower of Aes Sedai and Asha'man. Egwene & Logain as his chief lieutenants in their respective groups.

Tuon & Mat leave the continent to fight for control of the Seanchan mainland.

Elayne rules Andor but not Cairhien.

Perrin rules an independant Two Rivers kingdom.

Nynaeve & Lan rebuild Malkier.

  • 4 weeks later...

not sure if this is the best place for this, but, ever since we saw androl fixing the bracer i've wondered if this is a clue to oaths the asha'man will take (on the oath rod) there's defend, protect, and guard. I'm guessing guard could be for the dark ones new prison, protect could be to protect aes sedai...defend... the dragon peace? just thought this could be something to speculate about, (note tuon demands three oaths- wait serve obey or some such i'm also guessing these on an oath rod could replace the a'dam). a bit weak i know, flame away.

I can't wait to see her reaction to the Asha'man demanding an equal position to Aes Sedai. She'd probably sniff at them.

As for the rest, I think Mat'll get involved with the Seanchan in some way, he'll probably resign himself to his fate as the Prince of Ravens, maybe even stopping the Seanchan war with Randland and negotiating peace between them.

Perrin'll go be a lord, all the while complaining that he's just a simple blacksmith.

Rand, I dunno. He might die in AMoL, so I'd be curious to see what happens if he survives. My guess is that if he survives he'll have something to do with reshaping the Black and White Towers, maybe training them in the ways of the Aes Sedai of the AoL, considering that he is the last surviving Aes Sedai from that time.

Rand: Will mostly alternate between wandering about incognito, healing the world as he goes, and herding sheep. He'll be assumed dead by the vast majority of the world – the only people who know Rand al'Thor is still alive will be Min, Elayne, Aviendha, Moiraine, Thom, Mat, Tuon, Perrin, Faile, Nynaeve, Lan and Tam.

Min, Elayne, Aviendha: I'm in favour of the idea that they're the three that become one, and that they'll be in a single body, much like Slayer is. They'll be able to alternate who they are at any given moment, so Elayne will still be able to rule as queen and eventually Empress; the other two will take a slight backseat role for a while. Once their children are grown, Rand and his wives will leave the world with the Ogier.

Nynaeve and Lan: Those two will rebuild Malkier. Nynaeve will remain Aes Sedai; when Lan eventually dies of old age, Nynaeve will get going Cadsuane-style and forge some serious legends of her own.

Mat and Tuon: Will first firm up control of the local Seanchan empire, and then head off west to regain control of the main part of it. Tuon will learn how to channel, taught by her Truthspeaker, a Healed Setalle Anan. Mat will die in bed. Tuon will eventually found a Seanchan equivalent to the Aes Sedai, who are more like Asha'man in practice than Aes Sedai.

Perrin and Faile: Will rule the Two Rivers, under Elayne. Their eldest son will marry the eldest daughter of Rand and Elayne, tying together a large empire. In the Two Rivers at least, no one cares about what Rand did – Perrin is their hero. Rand will be bemused, and happy for his friend. Perrin will outlive Faile; after Faile dies, Perrin will be last seen walking alone into the forest on a night filled with wolf-howls.

The Aiel will return to the Waste. Those that remain will do so as citizens of the nations that they're settling in, with the understanding that they're to adapt to the ways of the Wetlands.

Egwene and the White Tower: Egwene will never return to the Two Rivers. Under her guidance, the White Tower's numbers will grow dramatically, to well over 5,000 Aes Sedai in a matter of decades. However, the political influence of the White Tower will never be what it was in the Third Age, and Egwene will eventually retire from her position at a relatively young age. Siuan Sanche will reluctantly succeed her as Amyrlin. Rumours that the Hall “encouraged” her to retire, after one too many schemes to restore the power and influence of Aes Sedai over the world had failed, are firmly denied by the White Tower.

Logain and the Black Tower and the Kin: Elayne will succeed in tying both the Kin and the Black Tower to Andor via a mutual defence pact. Meanwhile, many of the Aes Sedai who bonded or were bonded by Asha'man decide to remain associated with the Black Tower, and the Black Tower sets up training for women as well as men. The Kin also become associated with the Black Tower. The Black Tower takes a more proactive view of the world; common training exercises have linked men and women helping farmers dig ditches, have cities raise walls and buildings, helping encourage growth in orchards and fields, building roads, providing healing, etc. That work doesn't stop once an Asha'man (male or female) graduates; they're encouraged to be part of the world, and to continue assisting people. In the settlements that Elayne creates in Cairhien and Andor, many have at least one Asha'man stationed there to provide Gateways, help dig wells, etc. Under Logain, the Black Tower becomes an institution almost universally admired and respected, and tens of thousands of men and women learn to channel there in the decades ahead. Logain himself is considered the greatest man alive, a living saint, by the vast majority of people outside Tar Valon.

Galad: Settles in Mayene, for reasons unknown. Under him, the Whitecloaks become a much more honourable and benevolent organization. They find themselves acting in a way similar to that of modern UN Peacekeepers.

Cadsuane: Assuming she doesn't die before reaching the Promised Land, she'll be last seen riding off into the sunset.

Moiraine and Thom: Moiraine will act as an adviser to Perrin and Faile, Thom as an adviser to Elayne. They'll name their first child after Rand.

Moghedien: Will be the only Forsaken to survive everything. Using the One Power to disguise herself, she'll have a long and successful career as an investment banker, be the founder and largest shareholder of a very profitable insurance company selling insurance on ships and crops, and acting as a driving force in the founding of the first stock market of the Fourth Age. She'll eventually die of old age without anyone having guessed at who she once was, and will leave behind some very surprising memoirs.

That is FelixPax/Dida levels of crazy. Hope that didn't come out rude, I'm actually entertained.

I'm thinking, however it goes down, the "time as a wheel" might end. So, people will die, never to be reborn again. This will (a) cause the Creator to be more involved in the future and (b) may also mean that the DO will break free, but his plan to destroy everything will go wrong.

How this will effect everyone? I don't know.

I love this one!! Her doting grandchildren will only then figure out why Gramma was so touchy if anyone came near that strange crystal cube she kept in a safe in the back room...

Hopefire:

there will be no black tower left by the end of AMOL. It's days are numbered my friend.

I doubt that. While the Black Tower no longer existing would be a good thing, in that it means that Aviendha's vision of the future is unlikely (unless it's refounded, of course) the men who can channel will likely be in some sort of organization, and I highly, highly doubt that they'd be part of the White Tower. I cannot see them being willing to join as anything other than full equals in status, but without the restrictions of Aes Sedai, and I cannot see Egwene being willing to allow that to occur.

Haha yeah, Egwene would probably want to gentle them all or something.

Pesky male channelers, demanding a position equal to fabled Aes Sedai who can do no wrong  ...

I don't think that Egwene would be that opposed to bringing in the male channelers and making them equals to the Aes Sedai. Everyone assumes this, but I'm not sure why you think that she is so irrational about this. I don't see much foreshadowing of it, though. The problem for Egwene would be bringing in Logain as her equal.

I think Elan is half-right. I do think that the Asha'man will move into Elaida's tower. It really makes no sense for it to have been in the story, otherwise.

I do think that the men will be equal to the women, and that their leader (probably Logain) will be the equal of the Amyrlin (probably Egwene). Jordan certainly believed in balance.

I do find it hard to believe that the asha'man will accept having their lifespans cut in half. For that matter, I don't think the new potential female Aes Sedai will be to enthusiastic about having their lifespans cut in half.

I can see a few ways around this:

1. No three oaths, post TG. Quite aside from the life-shortening aspect, the three oaths are a form of compulsion, and don't advance their desired goal of making people trust Aes Sedai. It would be amusing if Rand/LTT were to explain the original purpose of binding to those who have fetishized the Three Oaths.

2. There might be Aes Sedai, in their Two Towers, but without channeling. We know from the author that there are Ages without channelling. That's why people who think the next Age is a return of the Age of Legends are wrong. Before the Wheel returns us to another Age of Legends, there will be another Age where channelling is unknown. And no channelling means no extended lifespans, of course.
