I'm playing the 1.8 pre-release to, I love it.

It is awesome. And totally freaking me out. When you stumble upon an abandoned mine with cobwebs everywhere, you just know there will be monsters coming to eat you.

Well, 1.8 has officially came out while i was at work i guess...

 

Only thing i dislike about abanonned mineshafts is the simple fact that they were awesome the first time around, then you start building else where and... Hit another... Then another...thenit becomes annoying.

 

I had a program thatll show your world map thats revealed...

The underground caves to...

Their was maybe 10 % of total map without abanonned mines....

The first world I've tried in 1.8 has some really buggy abandoned mines. One set seemed to coincide with an underground ravine, and as a result I have a long ravine full of floating wooden arches, suspended only by webs.

the abandonded mines are great if you find one early, as there seems to be huge amounts of resourcfes (especially coal and iron) around them. So you can get yourself quite a nice stash before going to mine seriously. But then they mostly get in the way.

look for swamps.

Why swamps? I think I've passed like 3 swamps so far and did not see any giant mushrooms anywhere.

Well no, you won't, don't think there are giant mushroom biomes? (could be wrong though)

But swamps have an abundance of mushrooms growing, and with just a few bones you can make all the giant shrooms you want.

I've stopped playing it at the moment... Mainly coz I want to play on my server, yet my computer can't handle me running both the server and Minecraft :( But soon I'll have a new computer, and will be playing again :D

I've mostly stopped playing since every update since 1.8 just seems to make me lag worse and worse

Minecraft is all but unplayable now for me

I'm hoping that the official release will fix this problem

until then I'm just doing other things (like working my way through puzzle quest 2...)

Not yet--have run into lava a few times though. I made an underwater hideout made entirely of glass too :P
