I'm not sure if this was already posted or not, but it's fairly late already and this is bothering me a lot.

Pg. 490: "'Tai'daishar!' True Blood of Battle!"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Old Tongue, tai'shar is the translation for "true blood of...". Also, in LoC (I think it's LoC) Rand names his horse Tai'daishar, and we're told it means "Lord of Glory" in OT. So, BIG mistake on Sanderson's part? We can't have the same words with 2 completely different meanings. Since war did not exist in the AoL i did not expect to find a direct translation for battle. I was hoping the word had come up when the War of the Shadow came along, since words like Muad'drin were used. I'm incredibly confused with this. Please help?

There is also Dai'shan which is a title for Lan. IIRC, it means 'Battle Lord'.

Page 354 - Birgitte wears a sword. Didn't she say in an earlier book that every time she'd picked up a sword in a previous life, she'd ended up dead?

That really pissed me off. RJ would never have Birgitte wear a sword. Ever. Ever. Ever.

More likely a dagger or cudgel or possibly even a short sword or hand axe. But never a sword. Never.

Never ever.

In her thoughts, Birgitte comments about how she was carrying a sword instead of a bow because she might have to fight in close quarters in the palace halls. It really should have been a pair of knives or something. It was when she was leaving the play/opera to deal with the disturbance at the Plum Gate, aka Mat.

One thing I noticed, but I've changed my opinion from thinking it's an error to good attention to detail. Aludra calls Birgitte "Maerion" on page 466. I'd forgotten that for the short time Birgitte was with the circus, that's the name she was using. I do find it a little odd that Aludra wouldn't have known that everyone was calling her Birgitte in Caemlyn. Most characters seem to be alert to and respectful of name changes.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but during Rand's Omega death-spree in Maradon, we have an Ituralde PoV where he specifically recognizes Rand's "deathgates" despite never having seen them before or been told what they are... his asha'man may have used them, but thats a stretch considering only Logain and a few select others from the manor in Tear saw Rand using them.

Some more information for The Great Mat Timeline Caper:

"Anyway, you've heard the lot of it now, Perrin. That bloody Brown brought us here. Haven't seen her in over two weeks, now."

-- ToM, A Teaching Chamber, p. 707

This takes place right after Perrin arrives in Caemlyn, so just a few days after Veins of Gold. It doesn't add anything we didn't already work out, but it confirms that Mat arrived in Caemlyn at least 20 days before VoG.

Straightening Mat's timeline until ToG entry is fairly easy.

Elayne is a good referent - the cannons were first demonstrated around 5 days before VoG (a WoT week =10 days before Egwene nailed Mesaana). We know Mat waited around 10 days before he got to see Elayne -- etc.

The problems arise when he goes to ToG - he seems to spend a helluva lot of time in there (time runs differently in Finnland)) since Perrin-Grady gives him a Gate around VoG + 7-9. (We know Perrin arrives in Andor around VoG +5-6. ) And then Mat sees Rand talking to Borderlanders, which is VoG +24-25.

End of Page 552-553

"Perrin hit first, swinging his hammer with a roar. Slayer actually sank into the ground, as if it were liquid, dropping beneath the AXE blow"

Notice the axe part. I don't know how that made it past but it did. He swung a hammer but Slayer dropped below a axe blow.

I saw that when I was reading, but I had just assumed it was a momentary switch due to Tel'aran'riod and Perrin not seeing a difference between the weapons.

Kind of nit-picky, but page 378 Gawyn thinks of Silviana as a Red, instead of as the Keeper.

I can see how it might be an annoying inconsistency between speech patterns but the Keeper retains her Ajah when she is raised so it is correct. Not to mention that (I think! Its been several months since I read tGS.) Gawyn was absent when Silviana was raised so in his POV he might still think of her as a Red and not really as the Keeper. Plus, Egwene notes several times that he still hasn't accepted her as Amyrlin so it seems right at this point that he wouldn't accept her chosen Keeper either.

US edition Chapter 27 pg 431

"But we must make some kind of declaration," Romanda said. She was

eldest among them, and would be the one running the meeting. "Something

to make the position of the Hall known, to dissuade the Amyrlin

from an imprudent call for war."

This is the Aes Sedai talking not the Kin. Age means nothing in the AS hierarchy. Maybe he meant strongest but I'm unsure if Romanda is the strongest of that grouping or not.

Age actually has a lot of meaning in the Hall. You should go back and read some previous meetings.

It's been mentioned several times how the eldest Sitter in the Hall is the one who presides when the Hall sits.

Judging by Egwene's POV in 'Something Wrong', Perrin's forces arrive at the Field of Merrilor at most a day or two before the meeting. Rand gets there during her POV, and Gawyn is giving her information on Perrin's forces, implying that Perrin has also just arrived.

-- dwn

I took it to mean she just arrived or if she was there when Perrin arrived she was spending time is her camp going, "I must remain aloof and unapproachable because I the Amirlyin Seat and every one will do what I say because of it and Elayne said Perrin will be on my side."

While Perrin was reminding the Dragonsworn they're Dragonsworn and the Aiel they follow the Car'a'carn. While Eggy was thinking of how awesome she was Gwayne noticed Perrin was gathering support for Rand.

I hadn't considered that. If Egwene herself had just arrived it would actually clear up most of the timeline problem with Mat (that he was in Caemlyn substantially longer than 30 days). I don't see anything in Perrin's POV in 'Gateways' to contradict it. Very nice.

Does Min calling Rand a "stupid looby" count as an error??

Why would it?

PS - I did some searching, and realizes that Min calls him a 'loobie', rather than a 'looby'. But the spelling inconsistency is RJ's, not Brandon's - RJ spelled it both ways.

UK Edition, page 597

"She wove Earth, Spirit and Air into a Healing.."

Aes Sedai healing is Water, Spirit and Air. Given Egwene's lack of Talent for healing, she shouldn't be using Earth.

Also, how did Tam leave the camp (presumably with Nynaeve) when there was a dreamspike over it??? I was so confused about this.

She's seen Nyn's healing which uses all of the powers. Since she has an affinity for earth, this could be her own weak style of healing.

Yeah I noticed all these typo's myself, makes you wonder what happenned with the Editor and Proof reader.

I must admit I was confused about the timeline jumping back and forth as well, very confusing, it was all over the place. Probably why some folk are now theorizing that Nakomi is Verin as the timeline is screwed up so bad.

The plot is still amazing so much work for the Light still to do and apparently by end of book all Hell is going to break loose the next day.

But all these errors are confusing the clues and the foreshadowing technique is some of them deliberate or was the Editor on her holiday when the draft was aproved for print? RJ wouldn't have made as many mistakes, Iv never noticed any previously tbh.

As for the timeline confusion it's a shame they couldn't have a sub heading stating "3 days previously" or "present day" etc

I was just in the middle of my second read through and thought this myself. Who in the light edited this book. tGS was really well done with a few mistakes but nothing as big as whats in ToM. I guess the editor is looking for a new job? At least we can hope

The timeline jumps weren't hard to follow IF you bore in mind that the characters were all at different points. Personally, I thought it was excellently handled.

She wasn't happy about it, but like someone said, she did realize that she might have to fight in tight quarters. Beyond that, there is an Elayne POV where she thinks about how unhappy Birgitte is wearing the sword.

She's not good at Healing, and what you're saying, in effect, is that despite this lack of Talent, she managed to create a novel Healing weave. And that Brandon just decided not to point this out because it was intuitively obvious or something. Nope: it's an error until proven otherwise.

There are a litany of typos throughout this book. From misspelled words to words such as "a" or "the" missing which makes the sentence very odd. I'm about halfway through the book, and I've really grown tired of them all. Shouldn't the editing process for such a great series catch most of these?

It's called giving them the benifit of the doubt, which I don't do much. With all the different ways of doing different things do we really need to see every last one of them?

Anyway...would this be the place to say that my first copy went to page 64is then went to 33-64ish and then picked back up @ 96ish? I completely lost chp 3 and half of the chapters that sandwiched it.
