Sergeant Jacobs had graduated first in his academy. He had won officer of the year in Washington county, twice, and it was a rough country to be sure so that meant something. Once, he'd been stabbed in the line of duty, and he'd spent six years in the office since, tolerating the pains of that old scar. No doubt, Jacobs had seen a lot of things that'd make another man flinch.

It was a point of pride then, that he never let a criminal get under his skin, which is why today was eating him alive. Oh sure, his feet were kicked up on the desk, and he looked nonchalant enough to a passerby, but if someone knew him well enough they'd see the truth. Jacobs was starting to crack. The tiny room he sat in had a single desk, with one 15 inch TV taking up nearly third of it.

The VHS in that TV slowly recorded the camera feed from the camera blinking down in the corner of the next room over. Through the two-way glass at his feet Jacob could see that camera pointing down at a man, wife-beater still stained with blood, hair mussed with the same grit and sweat that had dried on his face.

The man in that other room hadn't twitched a muscle in over two hours.

It was unsettling, unnatural even, to sit and watch him turn stones to sand while Jacobs himself was falling apart. A bead of sweat ran down Jacob's forehead. Not a moment later the rookie burst through the door and Jacob flinched so hard he almost pulled his service arm.

"Dammit rook didn't your mama teach you to knock?" He growled out.

Officer Jacoby, figures they'd stick him with someone with the same damned name, bobbed an apology and passed Jacobs the coffee he'd been waiting on. The clock hanging over the door said it was just past eleven, but then it had stopped running a month back. He took a long sip from the coffee, cheap and bitter, and let out perhaps too much of a sigh. This job was gonna be the death of him.

Jacoby had grabbed the only other chair but he was already too antsy, starting to spin the chair from side to side and fumble for small talk. An hour went by, things settled down, the kid had even started to doze off. That bastard in the other room may as well have been chiseled from marble. Finally, a knock at the door pulled him from his reverie and started the kid back up in his seat. Lydia came in with a folder clutched against her plaid skirt suit.

"So soon?" He asked.

She nodded back at him. "Looks like he's served. I mean, maybe it doesn't look it right now but that's what the report says. LAPD, and what he's doing out here in Portland I've not a clue. You'd think a guy with his experience would know better than to cause so much damage, or to get into so much trouble in the first place. Maurice said he killed over twenty guys, is that true?"

He could see the gossip ready to run off her lips the instant he gave it to her. Maybe it was true, but how could one man pull off a rampage like that? Jacobs had personally helped ID no less than five high-level leaders of two warring gangs in the area, He went to take another sip of his joe. Empty.

Ignoring Lydia's question, he gently stood and stepped past her, face hard, plucking the manilla folder as he went. Jacoby started to stand, but he waved him back down. It was time. Jacobs felt resolute for all of about two strides, but at the door something gave him a moment's pause. What was he walking into? He forced his stern face back on and pressed through into the interrogation room.

Jacobs had been here a hundred times, more than a hundred. He had a routine, and it felt like home to walk into this room. Here he was law, here he was justice. As he began to open the file, and sit at the metal chair opposite his suspect, the man moved for the first time since he'd been brought in. All he did was raise his head, but when they locked eyes Jacobs knew he wasn't in control. The man looked down at the file on the table, his file, and seemed to nod a bit as if to encourage Jacobs along. He seemed... sad. Something in the interaction was disarming, and Jacobs found himself ready to skip past the normalcies of his routine. He quickly skimmed the profile before easing back a bit in his chair, and taking on the mantle of the role.

"Your file says you know how this all works. Why don't you tell me what happened John?"

The man across from him began to speak.

Quick mod note, to accommodate the extra slots I've added another two vanilla town and a mafia 1x strongman, and to aid the 3p player I've given them a 1x bpv they lose if they convert to SK.  Notes on all of that are in the rules/setup sections of the OP.  Considered giving the doc self protect, but chatgpt thinks it's fine so if this doesn't pan out we'll try it the other way next time.  In a tie-breaker the mafia wins, so the SK (if one comes about) is incentivized to work as a town vig for a while at least.

I really am, lol, in the Shayol Ghul org. Unfortunately activity remains an issue (as in there is none whatsoever at the moment) , but it is good to take a stand against the puny humans of the other factions and show one's devotion to Lily, the Dark One herself.

That is worrying. The whole twitter thing thing is after my time, that means I'm generationally out of date.

Maybe that means I'm cool again though? Yeah, didn't think so.
