Catching Fire - an advanced/experimental game by Mish and Des - REPLACEMENT NEEDED

The Hunger Games... The yearly event where two tributes, a boy and a girl betweent the age of 12 and 18, are chosen from each of Panem's 12 districts, and have to fight to the death in an arena, until a lone victor is left. All of it sent on television, the Capitol's way of controlling the districts. Last year, Katniss managed to fool the system, and both she and Peeta, the boy from her district, managed to escape as winners, earning the anger of the president, and the love of the people. "The starcrossed lovers" are the new Capitol favourites. They have just been on their victory tour, and now it's time to gear up for a new Hunger Games, where Katniss and Peeta would join Haymitch as mentors for the new tributes from District 12.

But this year, it's time for the 75th Hunger Games. It's a Quarter Quell; every 25th year, a special Games will be run. The first one, everyone in the districts had to vote for who to send. The second one, four tributes were chosen instead of two. And this year... This year everything changes for Katniss. Again.

"And now we honour our third Quarter Quell," says President Snow on the television. A young boy steps forward, holding out a box as he opens the lid. Inside is a tidy row of yellowed envelopes. The president removes an envelope clearly marked with a 75. He runs his finger under the flap and pull out a small square of paper. Without hesitation, he reads, "On the 75th anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from the existing pool of victors."

My mother gives a faint shriek and Prim buries her face in her hands, but I feel more like the people I see in the crowd on the television. Slightly baffled. What does that mean? Existing pool of victors? Then I get it, what it means. At least, for me. District 12 only has three existing victors to choose from. Two male... One female...

I am going back into the arena.

This will be an advanced and highly experimental game! Please read the rules carefully. There WILL be spoilers from the Catching Fire book/movie.

Rules:

1. This game is run by Mish and Des. We are equal mods and what we say is the law.

2. This is a hammer game, meaning once a majority has been reached, it's a lynch, day over. There will be no penalty for no majority reached; game will simply continue into night.

3. There will be no editing of posts, no communication about the game except if we give you a QT, or in the PM's with us. Do not quote, screen cap, or in any way directly share your role PM with anyone. Paraphrasing is ok, lying about paraphrasing is ok.

4. Absolutley no character claims; this is a modkillable offence. Role claims are allowed.

5. To vote, please type "##Vote President Snow", and bold it. You must ##unvote before placing a new vote. Color it if you feel like.

6. There is a special mechanic in this game that will be explained in the game thread. Breaking any of the limits set on you by this mechanic, will result in punishment.

7. After you are dead, one "bah I'm dead, go team"-post is allowed. This post should contain absolutley no game information.

8. You may self-vote, and vote for no-lynch.

9. Days will be 72 hours and night 24 hours (except for D1. ) Please submit any NA's you might have in your role PM, unless you have a QT, then you may submit there. If you choose to holster, please inform the mod.

10. Rules may be subject to change or get added at any time between now and gamestart; if so we will inform you!

11. Be active! We expect at least 1 game related post per RL day, or 3 per game day.

12. Play nice! No personal attacks, no cheap plays outside the spirit of the games. The mods can and will take it up in private if we feel like a player is crossing a line.

13. Any rule-breaking will result in a punshiment for your team.

Just a few questions, why are there only 16 players but 24 last time?

Are district claims still allowed?

Because we wanted a smaller, more focused game. The second games are very different from the first in the source material. The last one was a soft advanced, this is a very experimental advanced. Don't try and game us by assuming this game will in any way be similar to the first ;)

No District claims won't be allowed either, I'll add that specification to the rules of the game thread. It ended up making life too hard for the mafia last time. Might as well have allowed character claims as district claims. So nothing this year.

@TG never gets old, eh?

There are also less players because there is in general fewer players on DM now. I had a hell of a time trying to get 24 players last year, I honestly don't think it would be possible now.
