This game explicitly says those type of roles wont be included. But this game is about learning so i thought it was worth sharing

hopefully rand will just out himself and we can move this along :p

Haha lol no, I see you have joined in on the joke too Hallia. :P

Personality could be a play style. After all we are online and not in person. Easy to fake something when its this impersonal

you never know

also ive seen PRs before that force people to be polite
(post restriction not power role)

right, but what I'm saying is that my "reason" was directed so strongly towards personality that whether the person was mean or polite wouldn't be due to their role most likely.  Of course later in the game it might make a difference, but now after one line, it definitely doesn't. :P

The only reason to give anyone a free pass on D1 is if you know that they're not the threat, and the only way to know that is to be the threat yourself. How is that not blatantly obvious?

Dude, a D1 pass is to not scare new players away from the game; give them a chance to learn! Because if not it would become almost a standard to lynch first time players D1 because they're easy to push into a corner, and then we'd never get new players at all. FoS on you for that.

Oh. God.

I know what the flip it is, but you do it by giving them the benefit of the doubt in their argument and acknowledging their scummy play but deciding to not look as much into it as you would an experienced player. Not by standing up and announcing that you're free to do whatever you want since you're a newb. That's abusing your holy "Day 1 get out of jail free" card and using it as a supposedly legit reason for not voting a teammate.

So much defense but no unvoted

Because it was a joke vote...  I guarantee that if I had unvoted you would have said that I'm taking off my votes with little pressure.  FoS Dap.

Dap, I just think that voting a person that isn't going to be lynched is wasting that vote for the day. If there is something so egregious in the new player's game then the town as a group could decide to revoke said pass or just agree to vote them the next day. I am not a big fan of the whole FoS thing. It comes across as posturing to me. I say either vote or don't vote.

Tiink, actually I would say that you have that backward. You still pay attention to exactly what it was they say and try to get them to explain their motivations. You just don't vote them that day. You want them to be engaged as that will still give information. The fact that they know they are not getting lynched for the first dumb thing they say is an encouragement to get them to contribute their thoughts and to interact with the rest of us so we can make good decisions about who is town and who is mafia.

I think that rand is leaving his vote so he can have a vote placed. It is something that mafia like to do because it makes them look like they are actually contributing and looking for mafia.

As far as the D1 thing goes, from what I understood it was an unsaid DM standard to let new players learn but not give them a "free pass" to do or say as they wanted. With that said, I believe I'm the only first time player this game. With or without the pass, given the experience of the rest of the players I'd like to play this game accordingly. How else am I going to learn? Tiink I think your suggestion is a reach though as far as granting of D1 byes for omission of teammates. As I stated above, it seemed like general practice when it came to newbies in Mafia games.

As I stated before, I think Rand's vote was a joke as most D1 voted are initially but his defense was notable. If it was a joke vote then why not just say so right out instead of commenting on personality traits first?

Also, I think an eye needs to be kept on Hallia. She seems eager to cast suspicion on other players.

Tiink you also pointed out that by Turin giving me a D1 pass basically admited he knew I wasn't a threat. "Blatantly" obvious even. Then in the next post you said it was a way to avoid voting for a teammate. So which is it?

You've misunderstood. And you do you somehow think that one of your teammates would qualify as being a threat?

The blatantly obvious thing I mentioned.

The second quote about looking for a reason to avoid voting teammates.

So, what did I misunderstand here?

Are you trying to put emphasis on the fact that I made one point and then another instead of putting them together? Unless you disagree with one of the things I pointed out I don't see what you're trying to get at.

I'm just pointing out that they contradict each other. Your first point says that someone wouldn't give a pass unless they already knew the one they were giving it to was clear of being scum, being scum themselves. In the next post, you say that it's a cheap tactic for avoiding voting for a teammate. I just wanted clarification.

And if your main purpose was to throw out several options of why someone would give a new player a pass on D1, when it usually is standard in Mafia games, you're just creating WIFOM.
