Bringing back Mafia Scoreboard/Standings

That's right, I'm reviving this. Now I don't remember exactly how it worked before, seeing as the thing went inactive right when I started, but here's how it will work now. Starting with Red's game, I am going to keep some basic statistics for everyone who plays a game on the DM Mafia boards. Wins, losses, wins as each faction, etc. I'm not sure how long "seasons" will last, but at the end of each one, I am thinking of possibly hosting an invitational game for the top ranked players.

Feedback is welcome.

what abotu game Mods, will they get points as well?

also, on the Mod front, will Game Mods be given a pool of points to award to players in their game that they feel diserve something extra? like can they recomend them to you or verb if they do something the game runner feels is worth a point.

I understand your concern, Nolder. Not sure that the people who would cheat because of this wouldn't be cheating anyway. I also find most DM users to be pretty trustworthy. What forms of cheating in particular are you worried about?

@Red: I am thinking no on points right now. Results are objective, easy to verify, and easy to keep track of. Points could get messy. That being said, an incentive to mod would be a good idea.

I'm not concerned with anyone or any form of cheating in particular

I just don't like that the temptation exists in the first place

Maybe you could allow players who are concerned about such things an option to opt out of this scorekeeping thing?

Not sure how that would help, Nolder. I think this might be kinda all or nothing. It's still a while until I have to post any stats though. Is it the competitiveness you don't like? Because mafia is pretty competitive regardless of whether or not someone is keeping score.

And Basel, only games on this board would count.

understood Womby. i was just thinking in the Aiel and SG where they give points for participation, the game runners also have a pool of extra points to hand out (like 3 or 4) to players who play spectacularly. i totally get that it could get messy incoorperating that.

re-cheating, i don't think this will incentivise cheating; i agree with Womby, if people are gonna cheat at this game then they're likely already doing so.

re-optioning out, i dont get why this would be needed; just ignore the score board and don't pay attention to it if you don't like it.

re-games elsewhere counting, again i don't liek that. if we're gonna do a points system in this section it should be to encouage games being ran here and played here, not elsewhere on DM. as such, i think games only ran in this forum should count *nods*

another question. will you implement a point deduction system, for people who abandon games they sign up for without a good reason as well as other things?

Posted

Doubtful. If someone abandons a game and has to be forcibly replaced or modkilled, I will probably not give that person credit for a win. That should be enough imo. I don't intend to start keeping a blacklist.

Is it the competitiveness you don't like?

Yeah kinda

Aside from incentivizing cheating I don't really like the idea of having a record

Whether it's wins or losses or both it's something that kinda hangs over your head and I prefer to go into each game fresh

Or as fresh as can be anyway

Putting up numbers and statistics kind of paints a target on better players heads while somewhat shaming players that lose often or get lynched a lot

It increases meta to a point that it's almost part of the actual game

I just don't see the need for that sort of thing and as such it's an institution I'd rather not participate in

One way to kind of have your cake and eat it to would be to reset stats often

You mentioned seasons earlier and I think that's a good idea if you plan on tracking records

Plus it kind of meshes well so you don't eventually have a huge list of hundreds of players that don't even play here anymore

Yes, but I think I will keep an archive of previous results. Which means things won't get completely wiped. I think an opt out for those who really want it probably is a good idea.

I did this a few years ago. I never really did a second round, but I think it can be good fun. I don't remember anybody having a problem with it.

I honestly can't see how it would encourage cheating. It encourages playing to win, but you're supposed to play to win anyway.

I miss having this, so I like the idea. Not sure why it would make people cheat...it's not that serious lol. It's not like we're paying people or anything.
