Sanderson's new Twitter comments

I'm sure most fans have seen Brandon Sanderson's comments on Twitter yesterday but for those who haven't, someone asked him the question if he had seen any theories that were correct about the ending of AMoL or if they were way off and he responded, "Some have hit near it, others are way off. There are some major things I haven't seen guessed." This may not be a big deal of a comment but remember, Sanderson follows the forums here and there so he knows some of the theories going around. Are we truly in for some big surprises or is Sanderson a little behind on the newer big theories? Discuss

Yes, I've noticed that comment too. I can't recall seeing any interesting new aMoL theories here for a very long time so I think BS is likely aware of all the major existing ones even though he doesn't follow these forums closely (if at all) himself.

I hope that AMOL does have many big surprises for those of us fanatics in DM and the rest of the online WOT fan community. I would be disappointed in RJ and also Sanderson if us fans have everything figured out.

After all, how good can the final novel of the most epic fantasy series in history be if fans have already figured everything about about it?

This is like... one of the main reasons I think Taim has been as much of a mystery as he has been. Big revelation in the last book... I see you, Ishamael.

Let's take everything BWS says with a grain of salt. Remember the Big Unnoticed Thing turned out to be fairly "meh." He seemed to hype it up more than it shoulda been, IMO.

"Meh"??? I think it was a cool thing and I did not notice it even though everybody (reading carefully) should have seen it immediately.

The Big Unnoticed thing has been revealed? Then why are there still compilations on the general forum of all the theories of what it might be??

Well, gee, if you're an author speaking to fans about a new book, wouldn't you hint at surprises, and tease about expectations fulfilled or denied? It's almost a canned speech. In our next exciting episode...

Mat's ashandarei actually being the fulfillment of his third wish, a "key" out of the ToG.

I predicted a couple months ago that Taim is actually Ishamael's son. I am still sticking by this theory.

It'd be interesting if he was. Really interesting. I'd love to see them together in that context. The next question would be... who was his mother?

Brandon Sanderson has given some more info on AMoL via Twitter. He is currently about one-third done on the book and is hitting a stretch where he did a lot of work during the writing of TGS-ToM, so that percentage should shoot up a lot more in the next few weeks. Apparently he plans to hand the completed manuscript in to Harriet and Tor in November 2011.

Harriet and Tor want to spend more time editing and prepping the book than they did with ToM, which slipped out with quite a few errors and typos. However, even taking twice as long on AMoL, the book could feasibly be ready for publication June-July 2012.

At the moment, and rather sensibly, all involved are saying that the likely publication date is November 2012. As the last WoT book, Tor might want more time to prepare an epic ad/marketing campaign. But things are definitely looking up now :)

He's likely a little behind, and a little out of touch in general. Peter watches the forums for him (and Maria and Alan do too), but his 'unnoticed thing' comments are a good gauge. Yeah, he was right that we hadn't figured it out, but we had discussed it. We just never came up with a satisfactory answer, so we didn't feel the need to discuss it often. I get the impression from Peter, Alan, and Maria that Peter is actually paying the most attention, and even he misses things. For example, Brandon might be talking about things like the mercenaries outside Caemlyn. I've mentioned that some, but not much. Well...Brandon follows me on Twitter, and so does Peter. I don't know how much they pay attention (I get the impression that Peter pays more attention than Brandon, but that's not necessarily true), but I did mention that on Twitter. But that's an example of how easily he might miss something.

That's not to say there aren't things we haven't figured out. I'm quite sure there are. That won't stop us from trying (or succeeding, for that matter - a lot can happen in a year).
