What happened the the stash from Rhuidean?

Moraine brings a large no of objects of power to Cairhien..have they been sent to the WT and what about the rest left behind? And what about the items in Tear?

It is funny when the characters are all complaining about not have angreal but no one tries to look at these 2 stashes. Why does the Dragon who has complete access to these 2 stockpiles not look at them to find another angreal to replace his lost one.

I believe they're still in Cairhien. Rand has them warded.

Too many skirts to smooth and prophesised messiahs to prod with a stick to bother with petty details like angreal

But it is quite annoying. I'm hoping Logain was sent to have a rummage through for stuff to help in his fight against the Black Tower, but that's just based on his aura of badassery and not much else.

As Master Ablar said Rand has the Rhuidean pile warded in Cairhien. The one in the great holding in Tear is warded too. The forsaken discuss this once (LoC prologue). The one in Tear might yet play an interesting role. Someone tampered with the wards on Callandor and the doorway to the Finn-land in the Great Holding was destroyed under mysterious circumstances. The reasons why Rand hasn't searched for more angreal in either of these places are likely this. First, there are a lot more ter'angreal than sa'angreal. This is mentioned several times. so most things in both stockpiles are ter'angreal, not angreal or sa'angreal. Still, there should be at least a few angreal there. But studying unknown objects of power is extremely dangerous. Rand was very lucky to be able to id the little fat man angreal and the Choedan Kal. He wouldn't know where to begin with the rest. Egwene had the same problem with the storeroom in the Tower in tGS. She only knew of one sa'angreal that she had seen used for healing Mat. She had to ask Adelorne for help identifying the other angreal. The old Rand had nobody to consult. The new Rand Sedai however should know a lot more and should have certainly looked into finding something useful in those stockpiles. At least he should have set some people to carefully study those things.

When did the doorway in the Great Hold get destroyed. I thought it was just the one from rhuidean that was destroyed.

they both were destroyed but the one in Tear was destroyed offscreen. This is revealed when Mat and Thom tried to use it to escape the Finn-land. The most likely theory on the subject I've seen is that it was destroyed when Moridin was getting Lanfear out of the Finn World.

It makes sense that all the male/female objects of power were hid at the breaking..so it beggars belief that of all the items in Rhuidean(supposedly hundreds of items) there is not more than one female angreal and not even one male one(leaving aside the CK keys)

The haul that was in the wagons in Cairhien has been stored in a warehouse in Cairhien since Moiraine's "death". She was only able to take a portion of the objects of the Power from Rhuidean. The rest of those are still in Rhuidean, though they were removed from the plaza and stored away.

There might be more in the Rhuidean stash since the Aiel are told these are items that must be kept out of the hands of the male Aes Sedai, but it had also been picked over along the journey as well as stuff left behind. Maybe more likely to have good stuff than the Holding in the Stone for those reasons (stuff the Tear lords gathered because it was rumored to be connected to the power).

For meta reasons it probably won't be touched much like the Ebou Dar stash or the WT collection: the bad guys have to have a little bit of a chance of winning (which they don't have anyway...) :)

That stash rightfully belongs in the WT. Where it can sit unused collecting dust for the next twenty generations while they have no clue what any of it does and are too scared to touch it. The nerve of some people trying to not give the AS what belongs to them.

Those stashes are both in Rand's control, and he has a couple magnifiers of different strenghths already. After that...can he (or does he think he can?) trust many other channelers? any other group of channelers? All but a few are possible enemies, and Rand is thinking tactically: take just enought to make me stronger without giving them an opportunity to do the same.

  • 2 weeks later...

Whoa, who said Moridin went to get Lanfear out of Finnland? she died there then DO claimed her soul from the ether and put her in a strong channeler body. And that door should still be there too

Moraine said it is too dangerous for people to wander around in there, maybe Avienda would be okay with her talents, maybe even Elayne may survive it too, but we saw Nynaeve suffered merely embarrassment (she got off very lucky, she could have killed or stilled).

So people don't mess with stuff you don't understand, especially if there no gaurentee or success after hours/days of exhausting work... simple cost/benefit analysis, Rand may send someone in one day, but for now it is not a priority.

To clarify, Moiraine mentioned that 'someone' came looking for a woman in Finnland, and stated that Moiraine wasn't the one he was looking for. The speculation is that someone was sent to find Lanfear before she died, and the man is has been speculated as Moridin.

The fact remains though, that after Mat and Thom recovered Moiraine, they happened across the remains of the doorway that led to Tear and it was destroyed.

Moridin himself may have destroyed it to prevent people entering to save moirane or prevent her leaving. Or perhaps the fins did it against Mat.

That stash rightfully belongs in the WT. Where it can sit unused collecting dust for the next twenty generations while they have no clue what any of it does and are too scared to touch it. The nerve of some people trying to not give the AS what belongs to them.

Cracked me up and It's been a while since I actually LOLed (you know, laughed out loud rolleyes.gif). At first words I thought you were serious....anyways...good stuff.

Nynaeve suffered embarrassment? I don't remember that. I do remember Elayne blanking out and everyone else not telling her what happened, though.

Anyway, I'd always been under the impression that Nynaeve had a less potent version of Aviendha's talent for identifying the purpose of *angreal.

That was pretty funny. Solid post.

When Setalle Anan is healed, with Elayne and Avienda thrown in I doubt any other group in world is more qualified to make the stash safe for general use. It is implied there are other AS that make a study of such things as well. Items of power are not to be messed around with and like it or not the AS are by far the most qualified to deal with such.

Most will be identified when Setalle Anan is healed ;) ...seems like most readers have forgotten what she did when she was in the tower.

I do not believe you can be healed from burning out like you can severing. Plus I don't think she had any Talent for identifying ter'angreal she just studied them, hence why she ended up running an Ebou Dari inn. Clearly she zigged when she should have zagged with some ter'angreal or another.

Well Aviendha isn't an Aes Sedai and she is the only one we know of that has that Talent to identify them, Elayne just knows how to copy/make them which at least several other AS/Accepted have shown a knack for as well. As I said in the above post I don't think Setelle has a Talent, just an interest and curiosity along with the bravery to study them. Regardless it was just something that always amused me about the AS throughout the books, that they believe any OP item belongs to them but they are too scared to even touch most. It just reinforces the Wizard of Oz man behind the curtain thing the 3rd Age AS have going on, being far less powerful and knowing than they project to others.

The only known human with the Talent for discerning the purpose of an angreal, sa'angreal or ter'angreal is an Aiel, not an Aes Sedai, and yet "the AS are by far the most qualified to deal with such?"

The apologetics are getting out of hand.
