New casting announcements.

Stephen Dillane as Stannis Baratheon. I loved Dillane as Thomas Jefferson in HBO's John Adams.

Carice van Houten as Melisandre.

I still picture Tyrion as shorter, and more rotound, and uglier, and more wittier than the guy they have. (not that he' isn't good, its just as far as midgits/short people go, they picked one that looked more 'normal' than some, and Tyrion is anything but a 'normal looking person just vertically challanged'.

I always pictured Stannis as looking like a younger, 'harder' version of his brother robert. Somewhat of a cross between robert and the youngest brother. (or was it the midling brother?)

the red lady works for me totally.

Onion knight.. I dunno I just pictured his head as being rounder. ;)

More casting news.

Jaqen H'ghar (Tom Wlaschiha)

Xaro Xhoan Daxos (Nonso Anozie)

Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan)

Seems they renamed Asha to Yara for no good reason. :\

Alton Lannister (Karl Davies)

Still unconfirmed though. There's no character called Alton Lannister in the books, so my theory is that he's Cleos Frey, but renamed to clear up confusion for those who don't read the books.

that kinda makes sense .. i guess. so long as she gets the personality right of one of my fav charaters in the series then i'll be fine about it.

Alton Lannister ... could they have remaned Kevan Lannister as well. the actor looks about the right age.

SD - Stannis is the Middle brother ;)

Good casting picks so far except for Xaro Xhoan Daxos (Nonso Anozie). I mean only that in the books, Xaro's people were described as "pale and milky white skin". I guess they are tweaking that a bit to bring in another demographic?

I don't get the Asha/Osha confusion when there is just as much confusion with Yara/Arya. Granted Arya goes by Arry for much of this season and different names later, but still....

Kevan Lannister appeared in season 1 already, so it's not him. He was the guy standing near Tywin and talking with Tyrion on occasion.

This. They didn't even say Osha's name on screen in season 1 at all, if anything most people would know her as "the Tonks character" lol.

Why would they rename Cleos Frey as Lannister? I know he's related to them but that seems odd to me. And I thought he was a lot older than that.

Posted

I wuold think because the fact that he is a Frey is not really important considering his role in the series. It will help keep from confusing the viewers since the Freys fight with the Starks. So they may wonder why a Frey is fighting with a Lannister. So since he is already half Lannister, they just tweak him a bit to make him full Lannister. The younger version has to do with increasing the Meat Meter and bringing in the female viewers.

honestly, jamie is enough meat for me

all we need is to see him with less clothes on and we'll be set  perferrably with out a shirt on for the remaining seasons

yes, after parusing hte interwebz, this should be his wardrobe from now on

Well if they wanted to interest female viewers that way I'd have thought they'd pick a more prominent character to "hunkify" and leaving out the physical aspect Cleos was hardly the sort of character who women would gravitate towards.

Are we sure it is him and not one of the stark prisoners?

A few casting updates:

  Quote

Hannah Murray, who starred in the first two season of the original UK "Skins", has joined the cast of the second season of "Game of Thrones".

Murray will play Gilly, a woman who lives with Old Craster.
