Season 3 (and beyond) speculation and random thoughts

Rumors on the street are that Matrim Cauthon is going to be involved in the Tanchico storyline in Season 3. Some people have suggested that they are going to combine the Tanchico storyline with the Ebou Dar storyline from the books. This makes little sense to me unless they truncate the plotlines for all of the other major characters as well.  This is driven (IMO) by the possibility that the show will not be renewed for a full 8 seasons, which has not yet been greenlit. If Rafe is told to wrap it up by season 4 or 5, then they will need to move quickly, and combining Ebou Dar with Tanchico will make it easier to do so.  I really don't think we are going to get Mat in the land of the Finns.

 

What will happen in Season 3? I think that these things are reasonable to assume:

1.  Nynaeve, Elayne, and Mat in Tanchico. Find ter'angreal stash with the bowl of the winds (domination band maybe?). Nynaeve overcomes her block, gains a nemesis in Moghedien

2. Rand is in the waste. He does the Rhuidean thing, gets the majority of the Aiel on his side, defeats one of the male forsaken.

3. Siuan is deposed. 

4. Perrin returns to the Two Rivers and defends it from Shadowspawn and Whitecloaks. He meets Faile, who intended on hunting for the horn in Manetheren.

 

What happens next in a potential Season 4? Cairhien is not at civil war in the show and has a stable government (as of the end of S2). Caemlyn has not yet made an appearance, but apparently Morgase has been cast for S3 so we should see it at some point. Sammael has apparently been cast. Is he Lord Brend in this universe? Or does he take the role of Rahvin? I think that Rand will take the Aiel over the Dragonwall early in season 4 and either take the Stone of Tear or conquer Cairhien. 

 

Will Egwene be in the waste? She really doesn't "do" a lot in the Shadow Rising besides tag along. We know that she is Rafe's favorite character, and her storyline is often prioritized by the writers. Could it be possible that she will be involved in the tower storyline in Season 3?

 

Unknowns:

What is going on with the Dark One? Is he bound by seals as in the books? The ones keeping the Forsaken imprisoned were all destroyed by Ishamael at the end of season 2.

Egwene will be fighting Asmo and Lanfear, maybe even alone while Rand gonna be distracted or be incapable of channeling or do important metaphysical stuff like talking to the Dark One. Either way Egg cannot sit out climax of Aiel Waste in a tent. Maybe Moiraine will help her so fight wouldn't be so unbelievable and after everything she will bring water to Rhuidean

Why would Egwene need help to make a fight believable.  Nynaeve took out a trolloc in S1:E1 all by herself.  Fair is fair!

I think this is a pretty solid assumption as to how season 3 might play out.  I hope Egwene's story will focus on her dreaming abilites this season.  As for Cairhien's government I think it could be toppled fairly easily.  Either rumors that the Queen was to wed a Darkfriend or both the Queen and her former soon-to-be-king are assassinated by Liandrin/Black Ajah to prevent word of their involvement from leaking.

 

Good question on the Dark One, they have not been much of a presence with the story focusing so much on the Forsaken.  I don't really have a clear idea of how they will play out their impending release.

I don't think Cairhienin government is really on the list of things that need to be solved or even matter that much.  With the level of abridgment that may be required, we may not go back to Cairhien at all.  If we do, it's probably as a site for the battle with the Shaido and the government of the city is not super important.  Royalty can die in the battle as needed.

Civil war in Cairhien isn't necessary. Dragon feeding Cairhien didn't play big role in book. Saving Cairhien from Couladin would be enough.

Much bigger problem is Tear, which played role in the most of Rand geopolitical actions.

 

However, it looks like they flushed Rands whole arc down toilet so far. So they can do pretty much anything with him.

I saw today that Rosamund Pike has taken a film role.

Surprised she has time if they were going to shoot a Season 4.

Could be that Season 3 is the last.

It is not as if Rosamund took a movie the previous year, Saltburn was it?

Yeah, I reckon Moraine and Lanfears face off will be the end of season 3. I'm guessing it'll be in Rhuidean though.

 

I'm basing this off a group interview with Raff and the main cast, not long after season 1 was released I think..

 

Raff tells a story about how even some of the production crew are really into the show, and he let it slip a certain someone will be killed in season 3, noting how shocked they were.

 

Firstly, I can't think of anyone in season 1 or even 2 that would be shocking to "kill" off. Maybe Suian but still.. (see below)

 

Secondly, I noticed Rosamund had an odd reaction to the story. Everyone else smiled along, nodded and laughed. Like anyone else listening to their boss tell a crazy story.

 

Pike though.. she practically blankly stared into the camera the whole time, barely a phantom eye twitch.

 

I do think they'll bring the reveal forward though, have her "dead for 2 seasons than show her alive as a season ending with her nightmare leaching thingy and bring her back at the end of season 7..

 

If it last that long...

I speculate they will scrap the show at some point. Likely sooner than later, its costing them money and viewership is tanking as more and more fans of the books become discouraged.

Has viewership “tanked”? I don’t think that’s true. Season 2 was well received compared to season 1.
