Ratings: Season 2 (E01, E02, E03) lost 63% of Season 1's audience according to Nielsen

so the week of the finale had more minutes viewed than these three total

but, that includes people watching prev 7 Eps also, and, as SD has pointed out, only counting people who watched in the first two days from its release

and still the fourth highest for an original series

says 515m min

and s1 premiere had 1.16b.

so the op has done the maths based on that

but presumably many of those who didn't watch s1 until the end wouldn't come back, so better to compare to s1e8

From premiere would be lost 54%

from e8 more like 70% as things stand

so not sure where it came from

S2 also had a ~2 year gap between seasons, and a LOT of people didn't even know when Season 2 was starting.

I'm less interested in premier numbers as I am in weeks 2-4 numbers.
(I also believe, against all predictions One Piece gobbled quiet a few of those streaming hours up from a lot of other shows!)

There is next to no advertising for the show and there is next to no word on the street for the show.  The numbers don't surprise me.  Isn't there a statistic out there that shows the staggering low retention rate for season 1 viewers (meaning most that started season 1 didn't finish it).

This show isn't getting 8 seasons.

The link I posted earlier shows exactly the opposite

If that's the case, then I stand corrected.  I may confused the viewer retention story with a Rings of Power article.

Edit: And that is the case.  A quick Google search showed that only 37% of viewers finished the full season of RoP.  My mistake.

So that is relatively false, it's just where that advertising is, isn't in place we are seeing.

Example being I was literally told by a member of DM, that while on excursion to LA there were advertisements plastered all over LA for the Wheel of Time Season 2.

There were a shit load of advertisements & pieces in a variety of online magazines and probably physical magazines that most of us have never seen because... lets face it... how many of us have physical magazine subscriptions to whatever it is that they put in article or ad in?

Paying for TV ad spots is another thing entirely.
I don't think I've ever saw an ad spot for an amazon show on any other competing network. At most I've seen them on Youtube or websites but that's about it.

They also got hit because of the WGA and SAG strike killing the press tour actors & writers go on, so the only advertising they could have done was that one press junket they rushed through before the strikes...

It's all anecdotal from me, so not worth much.  I've just noticed a complete lack of advertising.  I think the only thing I've seen for it is a sigh at the bookstore near the books.  I guess Amazon thinks they need to target people other than me, lol.

Point being.... Stating there was no advertising = anecdotal.

What Amazon has definitely failed is...

TV Ad Spots.

Ad Spots on other websites.

Youtube ad spots.

Billboards plastered in LA, NYC, and London are only useful in LA, NYC, and London.

Which reminds me.

I don't recall any big hub-bub about a cool 3d WoT s2 billboard in London like they had 2 years ago with the Fade.

Ha.  I don't go to any of those sites and most of my advertising comes from TV and YouTube, which you listed as failures.  I guess I'm not at the right places.

Right.

Amazon not picking up ad spots for YouTube is on Amazon. I don't think I've seen a single WoT Ad on Youtube...

On the other side, youtubers who follow WoT news will have picked up on those interviews and distributed that information to people who follow them.

So if you're also not following YouTubers who talk about the WoT show, you're also not going to get any information about it that way either.

I also agree there has not been much word of mouth or push from amazon outside of sort payed endorsement articles.  But I am very aware I dont swim in most social media pools.  There are not a ton of youtubers pushing show.  I don't think Amazon has a real master plan to create buzz for show.  I think they wanted to capture a young modern online fanbase with Rafe's interpretaion.  Instead they got 65% over 35 who were probably heavily book or fantasy reader fans and some good traction in a few asian markets. Episode 8 needs to be brilliant so word of mouth about quality increase gets out.

I am the last person on planet to ask about current buzz worthy items.  I do have 2 adult children with spouses that should be prime audience Rafe's version was targetting.  I also have 3 teen sons with lots of geeky friends.  I hear about HotD, Witcher, One Piece lots.  Nothing about WoT.  Is show creating a buzz in certain places?  The fragmentation of society and entertainment makes it feel like big budget mass audience water cooler shows are probably going to be super rare even if quality of show is there.

HotD is on HBO.

One Piece and Witcher is on Netflix.

Which one is WoT on?

Have they talked to you about GenV yet?

How about Harlan Coben's Shelter? Wilderness? The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart? Good Omens S2?

How about "The Power"? Or "Deadlock"?

All of those are Amazon Originals they've probably never heard of, with the exception of Good Omens... and they may not have picked up Season 2, let alone watched it yet...

Prime Video has this issue in that... everyone has Prime, not everyone uses prime video.

Everyone knows what Netflix is.

Everyone knows what HBO is.

All of my kids have access to all 3 through my accounts.  They do watch some stuff on Prime and frequently rent things through Prime.  That may be a good point though because Netflix is probably most accessed because son in law is Asian.  Daughter is learning Korean and they watch tons of Asian content on Netflix.  I genuinely am asking if their is a buzz I have just missed?  I like show enough to want to have a few more seasons and can't guage much from what Prime releases as to its success.

I "watch" stuff on prime to, but it's not my go to platform.

We're in the age of streaming overload.

There's too many shows, on too many platforms and not enough time to watch everything.

It used to be possible to watch most shows you were actually interested in watching.

These days you'd have to make it a full time job...

Or have a full time job that lets you do watch TV while you work....

That is really the truth.  I have a job that affords me probably 20 hours of watching per week if I really wanted to do so.  But I get overwhelmed with options and just dont.  This weekend I will probably knock out most of new Castlevania season so my sons can over discuss it with me next week.  So when will we know if season 3 is a reality.  It seems like some shows with film in the  an are being canceled.
