The length of the spears could be a marketing goof as we have already seen the size of Aiel spears in season 2.

I propose the theory that these are ceremonial spears that potential clan chiefs leave outside of Ruidean which they collect them when they leave.  These would be the spears that were not

I thought initially maybe lances used to mark traders road through waste.  Sort of trophies from warriors that tried to enter waste.  But it's Rhudiean so no where near where traders would be allowed.  Maybe just banner staves that look like spears.  Moraine's hair almost looks dread locked like she has been in desert a long time.  Wonder if we might get another time jump or prolonged journey instead of portal stone jump?

I saw that too and was at first wondering if that is actually Avi, but Avi wouldn’t be caught dead in heeled boots.

What's deal with lances sticking out of sand?  Aiel use Zulu type short spears. If Rand is returning with Moraine instead of Mat then maybe Mat does not go to Rhudiean?

I doubt we see this exact shot in the show. I think it’s meant to be evocative. If real, same thing. A ceremonial spear left by pilgrims upon entering.

Getting Gaebril before Gareth Byrne and making Gawyn older than Galad are both contradictions with the books, curious to see how they play these out.

Looks like the article was wrong and they have issued a correction.

Luke Featherson will play Gawyn and Callum Kerr will play Galad.  Galad will remain the older brother.

Phew!!

I am kinda surprised that we are getting Lord Gabriel.  Is he going to be the forsaken we expected or maybe combined with a different one.

I think this casting means we could be seeing Matt going on his book 3 arc.  It is presumed that most of the cast will be starting in Tar Valon and that Mat will be joining the Wonder Girls in Tanchico.  Maybe he is sent to Camelyn first to deliver a letter and overhears a most concerning conversation.  Maybe picks up Thom on his way.

Also hoping for his double Finn encounter.  Doorways in the Tower and Tanchico works just fine for me.

I thought that was obvious.  Siuan is gay and fabulous.  She can't have a boyfriend.

oh, please.

bryne is a personal favourite. i have a soft spot for the quiet helper that keeps things together while the protagonists gobble the spotlight, AND for the badass normal guy that manages to stay relevant in a world of superpowered.

but with the huge ensemble of characters, bryne is nowhere near important enough, and his story arc can be cut without any large change to the rest of the story. characters like him are the first to be cut in an adaptation.

similarly, i expect morgase to die for real, because her later arc can also be cut. sure, she's instrumental for getting galad to listen to perrin, but really, do you think jordan couldn't have come up with another excuse for it if he wanted? this is the same book saga where a high sea folk dignitary agreed to mat's "bargain" of "do as i say, or I'll carry you by force" under ta'veren effect.

At this point, I don't expect the show to go much beyond season 3.  But if it does, I also don't think we can reasonably expect the plot to even hit major points from the book in a recognizable way.  At best, we'll get individual scenes that look like certain scenes from the book, but there is essentially no chance that the way these scenes are connected and fit together will resemble the book.  That is already what happened in season 2 more often than not, and it will only continue to compound.

Worrying about how Galad will make peace with Perrin is completely irrelevant.

Based on the teaser, I don't think we will get the doorways at all.  Matt already has his Hero of the Horn memories form season 2 finale.  He might find a way to have the knife forged into a more proper ashendarei.  Then, he is set.  What else does he get from the doorway?

It looks like Moiraine will get her visions while in Rhuidean, but I would be surprised if it was through a doorway with the finn.  The Accepted testing already shows some terangreal give visions.  She will just get those with no need for adding the finn to the story.  It would take up too much screen time and vfx budget for either of them to spend any time in there.

I think the memories from Falme could fade, leaving holes in his memory.  Might be wishful thinking but I can be hopeful.  I also don't think they will leave Mat with the Shadar Logoth dagger as his ashendarei.

I am not sure if Moiraine will get the doorway answers along with her Rhuidean visions.  But there has to be some event that provokes? forces? incites Rand's trip to the waste.  Could move that scene from Tear to Tar Valon without to much effort.

Rather an important little medallion , no  ?  If he doesn't meet the Finn , Mat's story is surely going to be pared back in several areas.  I know they have to cut things , etc , etc ... but I do fear the whole show is going to be "simplified" to a degree that most book fans will not be particularly happy about.  It may well end up decent enough TV , especially for more casual viewers ; but I think it is a pity they look like dropping so many of the most interesting (to me , anyway) magical details .

But will watch anyway and maybe I'm wrong and season three will continue the trend of a (mostly) improved second - except for again rather messing up the season finale.  To be fair , from here on they don't have to deal with book endings which themselves were a bit untidy ...

Crossed fingers.

Yeah, the medallion would be sorely missed, and if they really expect us to be satisfied with the Shadar Logoth dagger morphing into his ashandarei then I will feel actually disappointed with that bit.

I like Skipp's suggestion about how to do the doorways above, and I've also seen someone else posit that Mat will enter a doorway in Tanchico and come out hanging from avendesora in Rhuidean as a cliffhanger at the end of S3. Thinking along those lines gets me pumped!

well, the central square of rhuidean was littered with items of power, among which the foxhead medallion could easily be placed. mat having access to previous memories due to being a hero of the horn would absolutely justify him picking up a specific one.

similarly, moiraine can die for real and not be rescued, as everything she does in the last battle can be done by someone else. and the stuff rand was told through the portal in tear could easily be part of the karaeton cycle.

therefore, ultimately, the finns could easily be skipped.

i hope it doesn't happen. unlike bryne or morgase, this is a more important story arc, and i'd be much happier if it was included.

however, it can be cut without significant ripple effects on the rest of the plot, and i can see how cutting it would reduce the need for exposition.

Ooof.  I forgot about the medallion.  Of course, as stated by king of nowhere, it could come from other sources.

Getting into some spoiler territory maybe?

Spoiler

I know it is used to fight the gholam, which may not exist in the show.  I cannot recall if it had any other significance.  There were copies made that assisted later in the book but were not key plot elements.  So, they could cut the medallion out altogether as well.

We see most of the Trakand family in the teaser, but now sighting of Morgase.  So, it will be interesting to see how they weave them all in for this season.

The Finns also tell Mat to go to Rhuidean, marry Tuon, and sacrifice an eye.  The Finn journeys are really the driving force of most of Mat’s arc.

But as I said before, they’ve already changed so much that nothing is likely to happen like it did in the book.  No reason to expect them to bend over backwards to make Mat in particular hit his book notes.

Too fatalistic and dismissive. As the story moves forward, I suspect it will hit a number of the same beats as the books and that the seasons will hew more closely to them.

As for the snakes and foxes, if you look closely at some of the Aiel rugs from the teaser, there are some patterns that hint very strongly that the snakes and foxes exist in the tv version.

that doesn't mean much, a lot of little details were done to hint things from the book but were actually deprived of any plot significance. for example, they did cast cenn buie and basel gill, but both appear in just a couple of scenes and have maybe one line of dialogues and their names are not given.

same for the grinwell.

so, i wouldn't draw plot conclusions from a rug design.

still, i'd be happy if they managed to keep that part of the plot
