I watched some of the interviews, and this was one of my favorite.  Daniel talks about some of the problems with season 1 and why season 2 will be much better.  He talks about better pacing, more breathing room, lots of action, a little darker, and season 2 feeling more complete.  He also talks about some of his katana forms.  It sounds like he will have some neat sword work at the end of episode 1.

Can't wait to see if I agree with his assessment.

I saw that floating around and... light, I hope they understand you can't just hype that up and have it not pay out. I swear hearing that, and we get a scene like the Shienar charge again..

Yes,  if they hype it up that much they got have some substance to meet the hype....  The article said this is on scale with Cleopatra or Gladiator.  That would be amazing if true.  Season 1 did royally screw the episode 8 battle, but it did have some good glimpses of action.  I would say the closest example would be the pregnant dragonmount scene.  I also thought the battle vs Logain's army in the Aes Sedai camp was a little underwhelming... bad CGI, definitely lower production value.  So hopefully they really step up the ending this time since it just didn't land with too many viewers last season.

  3. Even though I thought season 1 was about 6.5-7 rating, I'm pretty excited for season 2.  Making these kinds of shows isn't easy, and I really hope having the foundation developed for season 1 will make it much easier to build season 2 up.   Season 2 is supposed to have one of the biggest battles in television ever.  If they are already doing that, it makes me wonder how big the battles in future seasons are (if they make it past season 3).

Really hope they dial up the drama between the different characters more amongst all the action.  The trailers and the sneak peak all looked pretty good to me.  It also looks like the male characters will finally get some moments to shine in season 2, which was a problem in season 1 (other than Logain being a major badass).

  4. Rewatching again, made it through the first 6 episodes.  For the most part, I liked this  show.  Yes it had pacing issues, spending too much time on the wrong character issues, CGI issues, and a few stupid decisions-- but I still enjoyed most of the show.  Egwene still shines as one of my favorite characters from the Two Rivers 5.

One thing I still don't understand is what is going to happen with Matt.  It appears his connection was severed to the dagger,  but I honestly have no idea what his role will be in season 2.  Season 1 needed a major infusion of charm, sex appeal, and humor to help lighten it up at times.  Matt is the perfect antidote for the darkness, so I hope we don't have to watch him get connected to the dagger in season 2.   Perhaps his bond to the dagger was never fully severed? I think season 2 should start featuring lots of flirtations and romantic feelings buzzing for some of the younger characters, which didn't really happen much in season 1 other than Nynaeve and Lan.

Overall still excited for season 2.  Really hoping they can overcome some of the problems that plagued season 1.

  5. The cold openings in WoT season 1 were always pretty good.  This is no exception.  The trolloc seemed to look a little better in this clip as well.  Better CGI is a huge plus.

This show has always been able to assemble good clips, but can they put together so many different characters and scenes in a well-scripted manner with good pacing is the real question.

  6. Evil and different degrees of evil would be a fun theme to explore in this show.

Hopefully they explore some of this with characters like Lanfear, Asmodean, Sheriam, Ingtar, and Verin. Verin and Ingtar are especially good examples so hopefully they don't screw those up.  And for every Verin and Ingtar there are other characters who cannot be redeemed, or will not allow themselves to go down the path of redemption such as Ishamael, Sheriam. Lanfear.

Even more interesting is those such as Demandred who already had a great deal of power but are willing to destroy the world to be the absolute ruler.

None of these villains have to be as cartoonish as RJ flashed them out.  But it is fun to have some completely cartoonish villains in there too.  Insanity doesn't always need an explanation

In the book forum I posted the sense I get that, or all the major events to happen to the main characters throughout the books, the 3 arches experience  of Nyn and Egwene has no long term character impact

The scenes themselves are told well, and they include some minor foreshadowing. But neither character is significantly changed by the event, neither character has a moment later on where there experience here “pays off”, either in a choice they make, or an action they succeed in.

The scenes post more questions than answers and these questions are never followed up.

Yes you can argue as a world building exercise they add something, we get to experience what becoming accepted involves. But in terms of character development the only thing that happens is the girls become accepted.

So with that in mind, I will not be disappointed if they remove those scenes from the TV series. It is never good to have questions left that can never be paid off, or to have scenes shown that never then feed into a future action. So you would have scenes that will take time and budget to film and then never pay anything off. They do not impact the last battle other than being a test, a first step on the journey for the female leads. So many bigger things shape them later.

Especially when you compare this with Avi’s equivalent journey which we don’t see but drastically impacts her character and changes her.

So thoughts are the silver arches scenes an absolute must for you?

I am unable to predict anything the showrunners are doing.  They are on their own page.  That said, ter'angreal like the arches, the dream stones, the portal stones, the Finn Ter'angreal all offer a chance for future foreshadowing, character exposition from the past, and insight into the motives of other characters.  Therefore I expect them to use some of these devices, I just don't which devices they will use.

very nice, all the big shows are at least 2 months out.  The really big shows post season (boys, Jack Ryan, Carnival Row) are giving almost 3 months.  Even WOT season 2 was almost 3 months prior and people still complained about the lack of marketing.

I will make the assumption it will be at least 78 days, just like season 1.  Still a chance WOT makes the upcoming May release list. but time is ticking.  Other than May, Amazon releases very few big shows in the summer.  The Boys was the previous heavy hitter for June and July.  So we shall see!  Otherwise more time to go outside and do other hobbies until then!

  9. Yes, even though Graendal killing Asmodean made the most sense, it sure would have been more fun if Lanfear had done the job.

did Asmodean and Graendal ever even talk on the pages?

Many other things RJ brought up in the pages were never picked up by Sanderson.  I'm pretty rusty on the books now, but I believe the Seafolk got shortthrifted.  I believe Min had a vision around one of them that never came to fruition.

Also I believe Min had sone vision about Narishma that was never expounded upon.

I had a whole list of these thoughts at one point but my last reread was over 10 years ago and that's all I got

  10. I have no idea.  May seems kind of early based on Rafes comments.  plus I'm sure they will use as much extra time as possible to polish the conclusion.  especially after the botched season 1 finale...

I'll go with October so it fits fall release

How soon in advance do they announce their release dates?  is it 2 months?

  11. Book 1 not my favorite, but good enough to keep me reading.  especially towards the end.  Upon rereading I enjoyed more due to all the foreshadowing.

Book 2.  absolutely love this book and it hooked me on the series.  Watching Rand become a full blown badass, the Seanchan, the horn, Hurin, Ingtar, Barthanes manor, Lanfear, the Illuminators, Rands fight with Turak, the girls struggles in Seachan.

Book 2 is still in my top 3 for the series, although I know many people disagree.

Book 3.  Love this book as well.  The Tanchico patts with girls drags, but the rest if the book is fabulous.  Watching Matt take off is the best part of this book.  Book 3 is a top 5 book for me for the series.

The other 3 books that eound my top 5 are books 4, 5, and 6.  I'd say book 4 is probably my favorite.  After that the series becomes bloated and progressed much slower until Sanderson wraps it up

  12. I think Brandon must have removed all the clues that Matt detected in the beta read because I just didn't see enough information to make that conclusion.  it certainly is possible. but I feel people would have argued against that theory if we had a debate about it during the last 10 years.

That said, the thought of Lanfear unchecked in the next age is a sobering one.  That would be a great cliffhanger ending to the wheel of time tv show.

Sorry but no Halo was just atrocious, possibly the worst video game adaptation ever if not one of the worst ever Sci Fi shows. Much like Witcher it appears the writers and show runner had never played the game and knew nothing about what the fan base wanted.

I don't know much about halo and thought it was an ok watch. I thought the visuals on that show were pretty good, definitely not as great in the story department, but it was a decent watch for me.  I think it had enough interest that they are renewing season 2

Post Production timetable is.. a huge can of worms right now.
One bit of info that came out last season, was that they had to build their own Studio in Europe, because everything was booked. Same's true for Post Production.

If Amazon isn't creating their own Post Production company, and sinking billions into it, they're going to lose the streaming wars to Netflix, Disney, HBO, and Paramount. (Paramount put out 3 seasons of New Star Trek content in one year. Picard, Discovery, Strange New Worlds. That's not counting Lower Decks & Prodigy.)

If, they can build up all their 3d post production assets by season 3 or 4, they should be able to fly through the rest of the seasons without having to rebuild their assets each year...  this will speed up the process tremendously.

Take Marvel for example. Probably took them 3 years to get all of Doctor Strange' & Scarlet Witch's effects built up. Now that it's all created, they can pump out a movie or tv series in no time at all.

By the time we get to Dumai's Wells, they should have the majority of theweaves and other special effects they need created, so that by the time new stuff is introduced, it's only one new effect being created, and not 600.

Good points, Paramounts output has been pretty amazing.  Those Star Trek shows and the Halo show were actually pretty good too.  We shall see about WOT, hopefully we see some of thes improvements manifest in season 2.

My only hope, is that they keep shooting each and every year, and it's just the post production that delays the end result.
I don't relish the idea of this show going for 16 years... I don't like the idea of my 5 year old being in college before this show's finished.

It seems 5 years may be the new benchmark for fantasy series.  5 years for Rings of Power, etc. It really is very difficult to exceed that given the post about production timetable and expense.  Nobody can match GOT 8 seasons in 9 years anymore.  Even the GOT prequel can't match that timetable.

I'd imagine future epic fantasy series will be more limited in scope and to series with less books... aka Mystborn by Sanderson.  Still waiting for him to announce the Hollywood project as well.

I'm leaning toward it stays the same as S1 - with both minor and significant changes.  Some very necessary for the adaptation and others not - depending on your point of view...

Rafe has a vision and will run with it.  If WoT is cut to five seasons vs. eight, what do you think gets cut - source material or Rafe's story?  I think we get more non-canon, but only time will tell.

If Rafe reduces WOT to 5 seasons, I wonder how they would even conclude the series.  Season 3 is book 4 and the Aiel Waste.  they would have to do snippets of all the other books, maybe make the cleansing of the male taint the last Battle.  Hopefully they wouldn't cut Dumais Wells along the way.

It seems like 5 seasons may be more and more likely under the cost cutting streaming world that exists now.  Plus WOT had shown it takes them 1.5 to 2 years to put out each season.

  17. Rings of Power was the better show in so many more ways.  Rings of Power really focused on the main character arcs and thus was more memorable.  Wheel of time focused way too much on minor characters and didn't develop their main characters enough.

Some of character developments in wheel of time happened so fast that the audience doesn't get enough time to really know them.  And the last episode was very poor and had developments that didn't make sense or veered way too far from the books.

The whole Loial getting stabbed by Fains dagger is just horrible horrible.  And the healing of the near dead.... Just horrible plot decisions, I can't believe episode 8 was that bad.  They have so much work to do in season 2 to get this show back on track.

Rings of Power was much more concise and easy to. understand what was going on.  wheel of time was much more haphazardly thrown together and the plot didn't really bounce together the way Rings of Power did

I would say there is a real posbility they delay WoT to the RoP release window (Labor Weekend and then weekly until all episodes released). It’s their only show that feels similar enough, and with RoP season 2 production being delayed, my guess is that it won’t be available for release until Sept 2024. It’s shortens the gap between their two tent pole fantasy series.

I doubt The Boys will be ready for a June release- I imagine they haven’t wrapped filming on season 4 yet, and they’ll need over 6 months for post. I think they are launching GEN V, the Boys spin off, this year instead of doing a Boys season. Boys 4 might air late ‘23 with Gen V, getting the summer slot. I could potentially see WoT getting the May/ June slot with Gen V dropping in July or vise/ versa.

Likely you’ll see WoT, Gen V and Good Omens taking Late Spring/ Early Summer, Mid-Summer, and then Late Summer/Early Fall in some order.

Reacher ( at least season 1) was a one day full season drop, so it could possibily be in April post Carnival Row or over the summer ( Good Omens 2 is only 6 episodes and may also drop all at once, which is probably why we know it’s already scheduled for next summer)

Masiel- it has a very different audience than these shows, so it could really be any time. They’ll likely get it out before May so their last season can be Emmy eligible in the fall ( and fresh on voters minds).

    so my best guess:

    Jan - Hunters 2 ( final season/announced)

Feb- Carnival Row 2 ( Final season/ announced)

March- Daisy Jones and the Six ( new series, announced)

    April- Maisel ( Final season)

May/ June- Gen V ( new series-could be swapped for WoT)

July- Reacher 2/ Good Omens 2

    August- Good Omens 2/ Reacher

September/Oct-WoT 2 ( Labor Day weekend premier, same schedule as RoP this year- could be swapped with Gen V but only if Amazon doesn’t want to air Boys 4 in ‘23)

    Nov/ December - Boys 4

Amazon also has several new series to slot in here as well. Citadel being a pretty big one ( or at least one they’ll promote).

Not sure why so many things were randomly underscored. Sorry about that.

That's a great analysis.  This makes me realize the greatest accomplishment of Game of Thrones was that it released a new season every year on time for the first 7 seasons.

If they take almost 2 years to release every season of WOT they will likely never finish the show, but I guess that is the pace that Amazon seems to work on.
