  1. OOC: For realism's sake, I decided to split this post into two days (in case you're wondering about the break in the middle).

    *~ :ajahred_by_drowelfmorwen-dc43fsu: ~*

Once both new novices said they felt something, Jagen felt quite impressed. They would be quick learners, she hoped--or rather, expected, now.

"Ravenhild, that is your name, yes?" she asked the first girl in white. Her eyebrows raising slightly to press her point, she went on, "When you address an Aes Sedai, you will say 'Aes Sedai' or, in my case, 'Jagen Sedai', you understand this, yes?"

Then she looked at Viviane, and between the two. "It is good you both have felt something already. But be aware the feeling might not stay with her; sometimes keeping the awareness of the Power will have to build up over time. Especially if you end up developing a block--though you should not have to worry about that here, it is possible that at times you may feel saidar but unable to embrace it. Other times the Power, it will seem as if it is not even there. In this case, it may be a block has developed. But neither of you are wilders--those who somehow manage to touch the Power without training--and that is a very good thing indeed. All of your training will go through the proper routes."

The ball of light disappeared. "I will see you both tomorrow, as this is all we have time for today. A last note, however. No novice may try to embrace the One Power on her own. Do not even think about trying to do so. If you are caught, the consequences are dire--if you are not, the consequences could be far worse. I hope I am making myself clear, yes?" She looked at them both with a slightly stern look to her face. "Now, do not be late, either of you, to your next class." And with that Jagen rose and left the room. A bell sounded in the distance.

    *~ :ajahred_by_drowelfmorwen-dc43fsu: ~*

The next day Jagen showed up a minute before the class was to begin, and she sat as each novice greeted her. On the table she set down a white crystal, uncut and only somewhat clear.

"Today we will work more on feeling the One Power--and learning to embrace it. It does not come easy, and this may take time. You may only practice this in the presence of an Accepted, or Aes Sedai."

"Now that you are aware of saidar, you must learn to focus in on it. If you are looking into a vast ocean, you must focus on the pearl down on the sea floor among the sand. A hard thing to do, when you are inexperienced. But focus none the less. Whether it is a pearl to be brought up into the light or a rose bud that must open itself, this is saidar, and you needing to reach to it. But this does not mean you will be crass and try to grab it, force it, seize it. No. Saidar is a wonderful, powerful force, and you must learn to submit to it before you can embrace it. Do not be discouraged if you do not manage to do it today."

"Now, clear your mind. Focus only on that pearl."  She never did like using the rosebud analogy. "Use this gem before you to focus--if you manage to embrace saidar, you may unwittingly channel, and cause the crystal to shine some. Now, the pearl. You must dive into the water to get it. That is you surrendering. If you are successful, you will be able to grasp it." Her tone became calm, and directive. "Clear your mind. Breathe. There is only that pearl. Nothing else matters..."

  2. "You have quite satisfactory answers," Jagen told her. "Well done." She, as a teacher, usually avoided being snide or rude with students when it wasn't called for, though some sisters took opportunities to remind Accepted of their place at every chance. While Jagen was not quite innocent of this, she rarely brought such an attitude into the classroom. Learning the lesson being taught was far more important.

She lead Viviane away from the Traitor's Court, but instead of leading her back toward the Tower, she took her to a garden path to walk along. The Tower had many gardens; some connected, some more isolated. This particular path wrapped all the way around the largest garden if they stayed on the edges. This was the one she most often walked.

"From now, we have covered the main and most important mission of the Reds. However, like the other Ajahs we all have Aes Sedai duties to perform. At the White Tower you are receiving the best education in the world. Therefore all Aes Sedai are trained as diplomats and have some familiarity with most basic or important laws in each land. We all can serve as advisors to the elite and know our words carry weight.Should the need arise, we can all battle, should the need arise, and we can all provide assistance to someone in need--or for a cause. We can be researchers and teachers and Healers--for those who have the Talent. All this we can do, independent of our Ajah. Reds often serve in such roles you'd expect, say, a Green or Brown or Gray to champion, and this is true for the other way, as well. It also does assist our main mission, however. We are encouraged to get ourselves out into the world. Think of it as a forward line of defense that is there in case they are needed. We can and will assist other sisters, even in other Ajahs, in their goals as long as our main mission is not compromised."

"But one's Ajah defines who you are and what you value most. For Reds, it is the safety of the world no matter how hard the work is, no matter how dangerous the mission is--we must stand ready to do what needs to be done. Now, you will reflect again. What could or would you find yourself doing if you chose the Red Ajah? Would the mission of the Reds impede your own goals?"

  3. Thank you. Also is it possible to pin the new Seanchan thread?

I will keep the Panarch as an ally to the Seanchan. I wouldn't mind if the King had been beheaded though. It seems a logical thing to have had happened.

Also, I'd love to do a thread where the Mistress of the Ships is captured too, but we have no active SF, either. (This could be an admin role, maybe? If we had enough Seanchan characters who wanted to do it?)

The Seanchan did not get far, actually, not yet--everything stopped right after Calder & Party got out of there. So one of the things I would love to do personally is send the forward troops out to pursue, but without someone playing Calder/DotNM/Etc group, it's kinda impossible to do, unless we go with the same "solution" as above.

Nonetheless, both RP ideas would have to wait on getting more SC players, too.

  4. OOC: Sorry for the long wait, June & July are very busy times for me!

    ~*~:ajahred_by_drowelfmorwen-dc43fsu:~*~

Jagen and Astradore walked side my side; a dark beauty dressed in light gray and silver, the other, a Taraboner by her long braids, in a rose-hue red that was not overwhelming but impossible to miss. Both had a scrip over her shoulder and wore a cloak to fight off the winter weather.

As they approached the stable, Jagen's eyes swept over the unrecognizable boy as he put the saddle on. Alvin bowed as they came close. "Aes Sedai," he greeted. Jagen reached up and pet Aldebaran, the large black horse. His breed was often trained as war horses, but this gelding was not. She tied the scrip onto the back of the saddle as she heard Astradore speak.

"You must be new." The White sister was eyeing Vega's saddle, and somehow the mare had spit out her bit. Jagen walked over and inspected it herself.

"How is there a boy handling these horses when he is obviously not trained?" She asked Alvin. Instead of waiting for an answer, however, she went on, "This boy, he should be starting out with the Accepted's horses, yes? And--what is this? The saddle is too low on the back. It must be high on the neck." She again turned to Alvin. "Send him to me tonight. I will be in my rooms. He needs a lesson in preparedness and attention to detail." She gave a cool stare to the boy. "What is your name?"

  5. Jagen smiled inwardly as she picked up her tea and sipped it. She liked the way this girl thought. A Flame Arrow weave, indeed. "Very good, Viviane. This kind of thought process will serve you well when you are Aes Sedai." The Red mused on Viviane's mention of using Delving to find if people could channel. Perhaps there had been a way, long ago, and such a weave was lost. But everything they knew about the One Power know told them a connection needed to be established with the Power first, and there did not seem to be a way to sense it in men. Or, perhaps Yellows knew. Not many studied male channelers after they were gentled. What would be the point? To learn if we can detect them ahead of time. She filed that thought away and set down what remained of her tea.

"Come. We must walk." Jagen lead Viviane out of the Red Quarters and down to the ground level of the Tower, then out a door to the middle of the Tower grounds. She stopped once they reached a broad, open well with balconies and windows where people from above could look down at the square. "This is the Traitor's Court. As you have surely learned already, this is only used for three purposes, and all of those three are only by order from the Amyrlin Seat. It is for executions, and also for the stilling of an Aes Sedai for a serious crime." Her lips tightened. "Lastly, it is used for gentling a man who can channel."

She adjusted her shawl to sit high on her shoulders. The long, bright red fringe swayed. "However, know that even men who can channel get a trial. If he was little to no trouble for where he lived and for the world, he is likely to be sent back home after. Some even hope he will recover and go to live on a normal life. But for those who have wronged the world, they must be punished accordingly. For them, gentling is only the beginning."

Jagen faced the Accepted before her. Her voice was all duty, now. "The Red Ajah help keep countries stable and wars from breaking out by preventing False Dragons from wrecking havoc upon the world. We stop them from causing pain and heartache to families and friends; their towns and cities. No one wins when a male channeler is involved." Except, perhaps, the Reds and the White Tower. That thought stayed private. "Men who have declared themselves to be the Dragon Reborn but do not fulfill any prophecy are false Dragons. Of all channeling men, they commit the most severe crimes. They do not do it for the world, but for themselves. Fame and glory is what they are after, to fill their egotistical needs. They do not care what happens to other people. They do not care about the pain they cause."

She began to walk slowly around the Traitor's Court; Viviane stayed close as Jagen went on. "Raolin Darksbane. He was the first to be of import, in 335 AB--not very long after the White Tower was finished. He was born in Aren Mador in Essenia--Far Madding today. He barely lasted a half year, having been taken in 336 AB, right before the Feast of Lights. But in that short time he became very influential, very powerful. After he was captured and gentled, his followers foolishly dared to free him from the White Tower. They, of course, failed, but their blind loyalty costed lives and damage to the city."

"Then there was Yurian Stonebow. He too was born in Far Madding--then Fel Moreina--declaring himself in 1301 AB." Her lips tightened again. "He killed three sisters and captured three more to be at his mercy before he was subdued. The White Tower caught and gentled him in 1308 AB."

"There are others, not so famous, but still more. Davian was his name--the White Tower, of course, caught him too, before he could do much damage. Then after him, there was Guaire Amalasan, in FY 939. He perhaps is one you have heard of. When the White Tower sent sisters to capture him, he killed one and managed to still two others." She shook her head. "He was able to conquer almost half of all the lands this side of the Aiel Waste in the  War of the Second Dragon, including taking the city of Far Madding in only three weeks. He too was subdued, after Artur Hawkwing stopped him, and he was brought to the Tower and gentled in FY 943.

"Now, just think of it, Viviane. A war that spans half of the world as we know it. You can imagine the heartache and damage he and his followers caused. Reflect on the importance of the Reds' mission. Explain what could have happened if the False Dragons are allowed to run free, and the necessity of which the White Tower must act."

  6. I am wondering if we ever had a Falme... my memory tells me no, but I could be wrong. Searching these boards is tough because I can either search one forum at a time, which will we result in NO results back no matter what I search, or order the search function to search "All Content", and then the option to chose a certain board disappears, which means the search function will then scour the ENTIRE website forums.

So I have to rely on others' memory of events, because I seem to have already located all IC Seanchan threads (which I do by searching character names--the only reliable way to search only the RP IC side of the site).

Also, we only hold Tarabon and no other places? I would love to make up a map for where our Seanchan are :D

    HISTORY

    Summary:

    • Latest Events: The Daughter of the Nine Moons, Ruan, is operating out of Tanchico, Tarabon, using the Panarch's Palace as her headquarters for the Corenne. Calder, the leader of the Band, met Ruan there while he was under house arrest and proceeded to kidnap her with the help of the Band. Skirmishes ensued throughout Tanchico and their escape. House Elioth is about to find out about the kidnapping of the DotNM and will soon become aggressive in their efforts to locate her.
    • Earlier Events: The Seanchan Emperor decrees that the time has come to reclaim the lands of his forefathers. Five hundred ships sail out of Seanchan. A hundred of them sail ahead of the main fleet to scout the situation and begin retaking the territories if necessary. The Hailene (The Forerunners) arrived in Bandar Eban in 999NE. This is where and when the alliance between the Band, Aiel and Wolfkin  formed. They aided in freeing Bandar Eban from the Seanchan later that same year. Thus the Hailene failed, and the Seanchan retreated; Muaghde was a Commander for the Seanchan at the time. When the Corenne, the Return, arrived and invaded Tanchico, however, Muaghde accompanied the Daughter of the Nine Moons, raised to the High Blood and chosen to lead the Corenne. The invasion and takeover of Tanchico and Tarabon were a success.

Note: If you know any additional information please post below.

RP Threads: All of Seanchan related past RP Threads, some more important than others. Will be going through them to give a summary of each one. Arranged from Oldest to Newest. Dates reflect when the thread was started. RPs are listed as minor or major depending on if they affected larger world events, or something occurred that other characters might have heard about through rumors. Therefore Major RPs are not necessarily those with many players or replies but rather the significance of the events that took place.

    CREATING A SEANCHAN CHARACTER

There are a couple of unique requirements when making a Seanchan character on this side of the Aryth Ocean. For the convenience of an RP setting and for players, and to help keep the Seanchan an active part of this PSW, most if not all characters should be in the same vicinity as House Elioth, or even part of it (such as being stationed with/ transferred to the House). This is a high house that is positioned in Elmora, Tarabon. With the kidnapping of the Daughter of the Nine Moons, Elioth finds itself on the front lines of the Corenne and expanding the Empire in the glory of the Emperor (May He Live Forever).

    OLD-TONGUE TERMS

Hailene - A Seanchan term meaning forerunners, Those Who Come Before. The Seanchan who first arrived on the mainland called themselves the Hailene, or the Forerunners; they planned to retake the continent if necessary for the Corenne, or the Return.

Corenne - Old Tongue word meaning “The Return.” It was the name given by the Seanchan both to the fleet of thousands of ships and to the hundreds of thousands of soldiers, craftsmen and others carried by those ships, who came behind the Forerunners to reclaim the lands stolen from Artur Hawkwing’s descendants. The Corenne is being lead by High Lord Muaghde.

Rhyagelle - In the Old Tongue, “Those Who Come Home,” or “Homecomers.” It is another name for the Seanchan who have returned to the lands once held by Artur Hawkwing.

    RANKING

Seanchan take their rank in society, whether civilian or military, very seriously. Here is a list of ranks from the highest to the lowest, covering almost all of Seanchan society.

    Nobility - The Blood

    • Emperor or Empress
    • Daughter of the Nine Moons
    • Royal Family Members - The Empress/Emperor and immediate members of the Imperial family shav their heads entirely and lacquer all of their fingernails.
    • High Blood - High Blood let their fingernails grow to a length of one inch and shave the sides of their heads, leaving a crest down the center, narrower for men than for women.
      • The highest level of the High Blood are called High Lady or High Lord and lacquer the first two fingernails on each hand.
      • Those of the next level of the High Blood are called simply Lord or Lady and lacquer only the nails of the forefingers.
    • Low Blood - Those of the low Blood also are called simply Lady or Lord.
      • Those of the higher rank lacquer the nails of the last two fingers on each hand
      • Those on the lowest level lacquer only the nails of the little fingers.

Seeker for Truth - A Seanchan police and spy organization charged with Imperial security. They hunt out Darkfriends, act as secret police and root out treasonous behavior, often using torture. Most are da’covale and property of the Imperial throne; as such, most are marked on either shoulder with a raven and a tower. Their headquarters was the Tower of Ravens. Seekers are subject to few limits, even with the Blood, since they report to the Empress/Emperor.

Listener - Spies for the Empress of Seanchan. Listeners are always hidden, and they have no authority whatsoever. Their duty is to report everything they see, hear, or learn. Anyone can act as a Listener, even a servant whose family has served a noble House for generations. Some Listeners are what might be thought of as professional spies, while others are brought into the fold through rewards, threats or blackmail. [See tWoT Companion for more Info]

So'jhin - the hereditary upper servants of the Blood, they outrank free men and women. It is one of the few ways to advance beyond one's station of birth. A particular class of da’covale, so’jhin are hereditary upper servants of the Blood. So’jhin have considerable status and can in some circumstances give orders to and have authority over free people. The Seanchan Imperial bureaucracy is almost entirely so’jhin. Many free people would not object to becoming so’jhin, regarding it as a step up. Voices of the Blood are so’jhin, and theirs is a coveted position. They can own property, unlike ordinary da’covale, and they are never sold except perhaps as punishment for a crime. With permission of their owners, they can arrange their own marriages; permission is rarely withheld. A family line of so’jhin would always belong to the same family of the Blood. Ordinary folk do not own so’jhin.

Military Ranks of the Ever Victorious Army:

    • Marshal-General - This rank is temporarily given to a Captain-General who is put in charge of a war.

    • Captain-General
    • Captain of the Air - Low Blood
    • Lieutenant-General - Low Blood
    • Banner-General / Captain of the Green (Naval Rank) - Low Blood
    • Captain
    • Lieutenant

    • Standard Bearer - This rank has an insignia on the helm of the Standard Bearer in the shape of a "small crest like a bronze arrow head on the front."

    • der’morat - A phrase used by the Seanchan, placed before the name of an animal; it meant “trainer” and/or “handler” of the animal. For instance, a der’morat’raken was a trainer of raken, and a der’sul’dam was a trainer of sul’dam, a sul’dam in charge of other sul’dam and their damane.
    • morat - A Seanchan term placed before the name of an animal to mean handler of the animal. A morat’grolm, for example, was a handler of grolm. There were also morat’lopar, morat’raken, morat’to’raken and morat’torm.

    Elite Military Groups:

    • Deathwatch Guard: The personal guard of the Seanchan Imperial Family, composed of both humans and Ogier. Each human member of the Deathwatch Guard is da’covale, marked with the ravens on his shoulders as property of the Crystal Throne. Ogier members were called Gardeners. Deathwatch armor was painted red-and-green, and they carried what appeared to be black tasseled spears and black-lacquered shields. The black is actually a very dark green, and the Guard themselves think of it as green. They serve as protectors of the Empress, the Empress’s family and those appointed personal representatives of the Empress. The Deathwatch Guard are considered the elite troops, the best shock soldiers, in fact the best soldiers overall, in the Ever Victorious Army. They will kill or die with equal fervor, whichever is necessary. A Chooser picked out young male da’covale for the Deathwatch Guard.
    • Fists of Heaven: Lightly armed and lightly armored Seanchan infantry carried into battle on the backs of to’raken.

    Morat Ranking:

    1. der'sul'dam
    2. sul'dam
    3. der'morat'raken
    4. der'morat'to'raken
    5. morat'raken
    6. der'morat'torm
    7. morat'to'raken
    8. der'morat'lopar
    9. morat'torm
    10. der'morat'grolm
    11. morat'lopar
    12. der'morat'corlm
    13. morat'grolm
    14. morat'corlm
      1. Note: It is curious that s'redit and morat's'redit are no where on this list.

    PLACES IN SEANCHAN

    Cities

    • Anangore - The ninth-largest city in Seanchan.
    • Asinbayar - The fourth-largest city in Seanchan.
    • Imfaral - The sixth-largest city in Seanchan and home of the Towers of Midnight.
    • Kirendad - Seanchan’s second-largest city.
    • Noren M’shar - Seanchan’s third-largest city.
    • Qirat - The fifth-largest city in Seanchan.
    • Rampore - The eleventh-largest city in Seanchan.
    • Seandar - The capital city of Seanchan. It is the largest city in the Empire and is where the Court of the Nine Moons holds the seat of the Empress or Emperor, the Crystal Throne.
      • Fourth Circle of Elevation -An institution in which the Imperial Record House of Seandar is found.
    • Shon Kifar - The tenth-largest city in Seanchan, it is also a seaport.
    • Sohima - The seventh-largest city in Seanchan.
    • T’zura - The eighth-largest city in Seanchan.

    Notable Landmarks

    • Towers of Midnight - Thirteen fortresses of unpolished black marble located in Imfaral, Seanchan. At the time of the Consolidation of Seanchan, it was the center of military might. The final battle of the Consolidation took place there, leaving Hawkwing’s descendants in power. After that time, it was unoccupied. Legend said that in time of dire need, the Imperial family would return to the Towers of Midnight and “right that which is wrong.” Deain, the creator of the a’dam, was imprisoned there, and it was said that the towers were shaken by her screams.
    • Tower of Ravens -  The central Imperial prison of Seanchan. It is located in the capital of Seandar and serves as the headquarters for the Seekers for Truth. Members of the Blood are imprisoned, questioned and executed within it. The questionings and executions have to be accomplished without spilling a drop of blood. Most prisoners who learn that they are going to the Tower of Ravens attempt suicide. The Tower of Ravens is the symbol of Imperial justice; an image of it is displayed on a Seeker’s plaque and tattooed on a Seeker’s shoulder.
  8. Fantasticccccc :D I will be working on this in the coming week.

@Oddpositions, I do know what you mean! I find the Seanchan crazy interesting but I would HATE them in real life, so it's a little fun to play them here. Interestingly enough, watching the Handmaid's Tale made me understand a bit more (somewhat) about how Seanchan culture might work with such a strict hierarchy (and Janine/Ofwarren seems almost perfect example of showing the mentality of a Seanchan damane).

@The Don You may be interested in this thread? If you have a Seanchan character (or will be making one) please let me know!

  9. Haaaa nice. I like both of those first ones, for sure. Maybe the picking flowers can be some silly prank set upon him by fellow guardsmen? :p Don't go to the Red Garden! HA! (or maybe do... :p )

If you start a thread I'll follow along with whatever you come up with.

  10. Jagen was surprised at the frankness with which Viviane spoke. In private lessons such as this one, however, she let it happen. These kind of lessons were the type where she could learn the personality of a girl outside of her normal lessons with others. Viviane, at least, seemed to think she had a much better opinion of Reds than other Accepted, and it at least seemed true by her words. When Jagen herself was an Accepted she did not speak much of the Reds at all; everyone thought she was going to go with White. And with fewer and fewer girls being found out to channel, and only a fraction of those being raised to the shawl, raising new Reds was a rare occurrence indeed--yet not so rare as the White and Blue.

"It is good you seem to have given this some thought already, Viviane. Your words, they tell me you have been observing well. We will speak of False Dragons, but not quite yet. Now that you grasp at least some of the importance of our mission, we will speak of some traditions. It was decided when the Red Ajah formed we would not bond Warders. This, it was for practical reasons. It would be bad enough to have to gentle a friend or family member, yes? Now imagine if you bonded a Warder, only to find that he has begun touching saidin." Her voice hardened slightly, but Jagen did not grimace or show any distaste; it was a bit illogical in her mind to let even a grimace show when speaking of men who could channel. To her, it just was what it was. "The pain it would cause them both--Aes Sedai and Warder--does not seem worth it. Men who are gentled often die shortly afterwards, relatively speaking. In the past, we try to give them meaningful tasks after their gentling, but they invariably kill themselves from having lost the ability to channel."

Jagen set down her empty teacup; it was Viviane's job to fill it. "For this same reason, relationships with men are highly discouraged. I hardly need to go over why." She paused, looking closely at the Accepted before her, before adding, "Of course, all Aes Sedai have a tradition of not interfering with another's business. Thus speaking of such relationships should never be considered." She watched Viviane's expression until she was sure the Accepted understood what she was saying.

"That all said, we highly encourage you to make friends within your Ajah. Reds develop strong friendships because only we can understand what other Reds are going through. It is also encouraged that, if desired, a sister ask another to accompany her, and it is required when we are seeking out rumors of men who can channel. Because we often travel together, strong friendships do ensue. Now, of course, making friends outside of the Reds is just fine, as well. The more friends you have, the easier it is on... other matters." She had hesitated only briefly there; it was not on purpose, but Jagen found herself wondering exactly how to word that.

"As for how we find men who can channel, we have a few techniques. There is a weave you will soon learn, if you have not already, which helps to read residues of the One Power. If we are investigating, say, a town where it is said a male has been channeling, it is possible to use this weaves to find if saidin has indeed been used. A bit of deeper investigation and reasoning will lead us to the one responsible. This brings me to our second main use of the One Power--in case the man we encounter knows how to use the One Power as a weapon. Unlike us he is not bound by any oath--another reason we must hunt these men as quickly and efficiently as possible. We have no desire to lose a Sister to such a man, nor innocent bystanders. For this, we practice weaves to battle other channelers. And while the idea of practicing such weaves may strike you as "fun", remember the dire need for why we do it. We must take such things seriously."

"Lastly, though I am sure you perhaps have guessed, we Reds have a lot of pride in our mission and what we stand to do. We are guardians of the world itself. For this we always encourage our sisters to wear Red, to even wear their shawl as much as they wish, for our shawl is both a uniform and banner showing what we stand for; people can see us and know they are safe in our hands; only the men who dare to touch the One Power will feel our wraith. Our mission is one of the most important in the Tower." She adjusted her shawl before leaning back in the chair.

"Now, in your own words, I want you to explain why having a Warder could be detrimental to the Reds' mission. Also explain to me what One Power weaves you think would be useful in tracking down men who could channel--or helping to capture them and keep them contained."

  11. Fantastic! how old is your sister? I figure we can probably set it up about 30 years prior to the current time. Jagen will probably be around Andor/Cairhein/Murandy and gets wind of a rumor that needs to be investigated. She'll call for another sister to come with her; shouldn't be too hard for one Red to find another out in the world :)
