  1. There is a drink in the US called an Irish car bomb? O.o
  2. Mary had just arrived in Tar Valon, and was not surprised to see the streets packed with people for the Feast of Fools celebration. She wore her feastday best and peered excitedly into each stall she passed. Many were delightfully covered in array of colors and lights, each as vibrant as the next! The smells and sights were wonderful, but her stomach rumbled loudly letting her know it regretted her haste in leaving before breakfast - but wait, was a that pie cart up ahead? As Mary quickened her pace toward the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked pies, her excitement mingled with the infectious revelry of the Feast of Fools, the air filled with laughter, music, and the occasional burst of fireworks, creating a kaleidoscope of sensations that enveloped the City of Tar Valon in a joyous fervor; however, as she approached the pie cart, the bustling crowd seemed to part inexplicably, revealing a shadowy figure clad in dark, hooded robes, their piercing gaze fixated on Mary with an intensity that sent a shiver down her spine, an unexpected foreboding that whispered of hidden dangers lurking beneath the festive façade, and as she reached for a delectable-looking pastry, a furtive movement caught her eye – a glint of steel emerging from the folds of the stranger's cloak, signaling a perilous undercurrent beneath the merriment that threatened to unravel the festivities into a tapestry of danger and intrigue. Mary had always bathed her time between the folds of her books, swimming the depths of fictional intrigue and squirreling her time away. Time that had the unfortunate side-effect of over-acting both her imagination, andcuriosity. Really if she had been blessed by the Power, Mary would have made a lovely Brown Sister. However, this day, facing this threat, her warning instincts met her immovable curiosity and froze her feet to the ground as the shadowy figure flashed towards her, short dagger raised, all ready for a strike. Mary could only watch aghast as the raised dagger fell, her active imagination already experiencing the dull, bludgeoning pain - stab wounds did not feel sharp she knew from her reading - when suddenly the dagger flew away in a burst of motion. An object rolled to a stop at her feet. A pie dish! She had been saved by a... The dark robed figure was knocked onto the ground by a short bosomy woman, who leapt over the pie cart, cannoning into the figure. This unexpected saviour whipped a wooden spoon out and started towards Mary's assailant who was already scrabbling backwards, looking for an escape. Adept at wooden spoonage, Mary's savior beat back the assailant, stirring up a heavy dishing of bruises, however in the shadows of the space between shops a second hooded figure emerged, sword glinting as they came up behind the utensil wielding hero. As the blade glinted in the sun, Mary noticed a cloaked woman just aside of her. She was wearing a serpent ring. Just as she noticed, so did the assailant who turned and quickly went the other way fading into the crowd. Of course, this is Tar Valon and Aes Sedai would be among the crowd. Why were assailants trying to murder her? She was just a simple young woman The answer to that was quite simple, the simple woman Mary had been attacked to draw out the Aes Sedai in the crowd. The crowded streets were rapidly becoming less crowded as people became aware of the commotion, leaving Mary, her spoon-wielding heroine and the cloaked Aes Sedai alone beside the pie cart. Then, one of the pies began to move. It slowly edged off the cart - Mary could not believe her eyes - then another, and another, until all the pies from the cart were spinning wildly around the trio.
  3. It's not easy. I've been doing it several times recently (ooo, er) for the event and I still got lost checking to tell you how. It is under settings in your profile, and if you are on your phone then you need to go to the cogwheel next to your username then select signature from the drop down menu headed "Settings area".
  4. As I remember the flaw of the domination band was that while it gave control of a man, over time that control would waver and eventually give control of the link to the man, the in-story explanations only allowing for the slowing of this process and not its prevention (sharing the bracelets etc) .
  5. OK, I will just wait my turn then. I have no real objection to not sitting on the ledge 🙂
  6. Well, as our esteemed Sword Captain has been dunked already, I shall take his place. I walk in the Light, and will trust that the hand of the Creator will shelter me from a dunking at these pretty but vile hands.
  7. Only to be worthy of you, Lily Gaidin. I've heard of what happens to men who do not impress you. I smile warmly to soften the jest, though I certainly knew the bruises that Lily gave out when I did not perform well enough in the practice yard. But I should not keep you all to myself. We Warders should mingle, not least to keep an eye on these questionable types that are coming in. Even here, the Watch never ends.
  8. It has to be - Sex bomb - Tom Jones Proof that any song will lead to sex or Tom Jones in three steps or less.
  9. Well we don't know that Aemon thought about Aes Sedai in general, only that he loved one specifically. And Mat for all his antipathy for the One Power also marries a woman that can channel. Maybe Aemon went around telling everyone "I'm no bloody King!" and he would dance with Amyrlin and maybe steal a kiss but he wasn't going to follow her light-blinded plans. We just don't know, and any story where the bravest man alive is married to the most beautiful woman alive I think can be regarded as lacking in factual substance.
  10. If there are an infinite number of worlds, with all the dreamwalkers in each of them, why don't they ever meet themselves or their friends from other worlds in Tel'aran'rhiod? Could people move through TAR from one world to a more pleasant world? I never thought that TAR being a constant in the trousers of time made a lot of sense or had even impact on the story except for making it easier to introduce its explanation and introduction. But an infinite number of Egwene's getting together. And having slumber party. I can see the appeal.
  11. Black Horse and the Cherry Tree - K.T. Tunstall Awesome live
  12. Halima (Aran'gar) claimed to be Cabriana's companion. So the theory of the Aes Sedai was that the murders were to prevent Cabriana's good friends discovering the deception. But the timing seems wrong. Unless Delana was about to leave? Not that I can remember. I suppose just because Egwene thinks so, it does not mean that this was the true reason. But if it was just to spread chaos, then it would actually endanger Aran'gar as it highlighted the link. Anyway never felt right to me, so maybe I am missing something.

  14. I was just thinking about the flickerverse - due to the Flicker Ball and Street Fair going on at the moment - and I think that it is a really powerful moment in the story, but also, along with the Finns, a real drawback too. For Mat, for example, he will have seen the consequences of his negative sides in graphic detail - that would mean that a lot of them would be polished away - that this turning's Mat is nearly the best possible which would be unique to him as he comes across as a more flawed character than the others. But all the characters who went through this would go through an amazing amount of self reflection and maturing. The downside, along with Rand's visit to the Finn, and how sparing RJ is with the Prophecies of the Dragon (though I am not sure how he could get around that unless he released it as a companion publication) is that RJ does not tell us about the contents of them. Either to create suspense or simply not to belabor the scene (thousands of lives per person would take some time to recount, let alone analysize) but this means that these characters can no longer have a heart to heart with their nearest and dearest, as big chunks of them are being hidden. Mat gets around this by aggressively not thinking about any of that - but Rand cannot discuss his plans with anyone, and it all has to be a big secret as RJ was keeping the prime motivations hidden. If the Rand-Perrin-Mat triumvirate ever got together and planned to together, RJ would have to show much more of his hand than he wanted to, so they are kept apart and Rand remains infuriatingly close-mouthed. But of course this is a different issue than the reluctant hero issues in the early books. As much as it can be frustrating, I think it is more convincing than the trope of usual swords and sorcery fantasy where everyone is always delighted to battle the evil god of war, are never nervous about such things as being able to talk to animals or summon spirits, or whatever else.
  15. I would love to dance. *leads Lily onto the dancefloor, my lithe form chiseled into perfection by hours and hours in the practice yard gliding over the floor with the grace of a stalking ridge cat* I do love this flicker business.
  16. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ _ No A I am afraid. Guessed A 1 notch Cairos on the gallows.
  17. That certainly could be the case. It just felt a bit strange, a bit like an after thought, and it also highlighted that the Black Ajah could have done that at any time. The death toll would have been high and everyone would be so paranoid that the Tower would have stopped to function. But yes, possibly I did not consider all the possibilities.
  18. I stroll over to my glamourous fellow warder, offering her a glass of wine. That is a fantastic dress, you look amazing for the ball. Difficult to imagine you sweating in the practice yard when you look like this. The hall is looking splendid tonight, is it not?
  19. You called me evil! I knew you liked me. This low-key hostility is just a mask to hide your true feelings.
  20. Lol, I have seen that movie so many times. A modern classic. Yes Anayia was one of the OG Aes Sedai that arrives at Fal Dará, and as Blue Ajah is busy with Moiraine. She is also the first person that suspects Egwene is a dreamer as Egwene turns to her as Moiraine has done a runner. She also is used a lot with mat's healing, Salidar Council, quite a few bits. Killing her off for a really tenuous reason - Halima had been in the camp for ages - felt wrong, like it was an idea that RJ had rejected and then added back in at the wrong point. IMHO, of course.
  21. As a newbie, I can say I'm delighted to meet you and welcome you back 🙂 Your armour is awesome 🙂 I did a tiny bit of LARPing many moons ago (with foam weapons) which lead to all sorts plans for making my own suit of armour. After a few decades I'm the proud owner of many sheets of mild steel, a few rusting parts that one day will hopefully magically become a spangenhelm and the piece of mail made from 6mm split rings that started to whole thing. A long term project, lol. Great to see you on the forums, looking forward to getting to know you better 🙂
