Weekends and Deadlines

This is always a tricky thing to work with as a mod, being many people don't play or play less on weekends. Something I see a lot, and agree with, is counting the weekend as one 24-hour period. My question is this: How do you handle night deadlines over the weekend? If the day ended Friday evening, when do you set the night's deadline for?

this is something you started discussing in an ongoing game. it might be better to wait until the game is over to make topics about things that come up during the game?

this wasn't so much about the specific game but it's still prolly better to wait and talk it out with the mod on the thread mebbe.

I don't think you meant any harm, eld, it's just kind of a thing that's not done here.

like people that don't play sticking their noses into mafias

I'm fine with it being discussed while the game is going.  It is not specific to that game - it is just a discussion about deadlines and how to incorporate weekends.  No biggie.  Talking about mechanics specific to an ongoing game is a no-no, but that isn't what Eldrick is doing.

Typically I expect people who have power roles to use them responsibly so I'll stick to whatever imposition I had during the rest of the game if a night is going to come up on a weekend but if a player knows they won't be around during that time I've let them submit early before.  That seems to work.

it's not so simple for people who come from all around the world and cross a dateline over a holiday weekend and have families and jobs and intense school stuff that don't let them post at will.

I wonder if that's why the quick 13 basic is so slow to fill.

People should appreciate the 24 hours window. I think it's relatively reasonable. When I was playing one of Tom's game offsite.... night was 10 hours.. and it fell exactly when I was sleeping. So I had to pre-submit hours before the deadline.... which I hate because I think some stuff might go down at EOD that should be factored in when making PR related decisions.

^That.  I've seen games with 48 hour days and 6 hour nights.  Things don't line up on a work day and you missed deadline.

My personal favorite is 36 hour days with either 18 or 24 hour nights.  36 hours (and even 24) ensures that whatever time is your preferred playing time falls during every day phase.   18 hour nights can be not so great depending on when it starts, but I think most people should have an opportunity to submit actions 95% of the time.

Strongly disagree.  If I can literally play mafia while disarming a nuclear bomb, I don't buy school as an excuse.

But i can't, so..... :P

MacClovdyx!

I prefer to start day phases without deadlines and then impose them later if people take too long.  I usually make night about 24 hours, but I sometimes go longer if there are holidays or weekends involved.  And I usually bug people too for good measure.

Is it just me that would prefer you NOT play mafia while disarming nuclear weapons?

Thanks guys. I was planning to do 24 hours nights. I was just concerned about how to handle that specific scenario. This has helped a lot, should it even come up :P

Also, I'm sorry for angle-shooting in the last game. I won't do it again. This isn't that :P

This is prob off topic, but for those of you not in the know the new avatar theme is outspoken black men.

Who wants Marshawn?

There it is!  You should know that a poorly done siggy isn't a prereq but is strongly encouraged.

I chose neutral colors for mine to embody the spirit and passion of my fans.  The brown remains unchanged.

I never saw any advantage when modding to having partial days in my DL. If a person has a preferred time for whenever they are available, then won't that be true when they are modding as well as when they are playing? I always found it more convenient to set all of my deadlines as close to the same time of day as possible, because it was based on when I'm most available.

And Marshawn is a punk. Very talented, but sorely lacking as a human being. His time here in Buffalo was one long off the field headache.
