Unvoting

I've noticed a few mods aren't requiring unvotes before voting again. I just want to point out that they are taking away a mafia strategy by not doing so. I've used it before, as have others. Pretending to vote, but not unvoting first, can sometimes cause a lynch to go random and save a teammate from dying. Please, mods, consider this when writing your rules out. Thanks.

I think Lily's right, I've used the tactic on multiple occassions. It's usually during endgame scenarios, often as a last-ditch move. But the ability should be there.

shhhh..all this talking about it is ruining it.

The thing is that some people do legit forget, so even when it's used, it's not guaranteed that it's a tactic.

I have used it on purpose and then I PM the mod, letting them know so they don't count it anyway. But I haven't used it for years, which doesn't mean I won't, of course.

hey you scummys want to do somethign obvious like cast a fake vote, then go right ahead adn make my job easier  *grins*

edit - i can see the strategy in it *nods*  its not so much the vote as it is causing a distraction and pulling the heat away.

Why is there a giant penis in your sig picture?

Also, valid point... and I'd add that it's a trap strategy that a lot of townies use as a "trap".

dunno what type of penis's you've been looking at Ape, looks like a tulip to me

Not many, tbh. But I see a big peach colored mushroom tip in her sig. No tulips.

IMO, that is no more "mafia strategy" than being inactive to get through the game.  It's manipulation of the online format and thus I have eliminated it after seeing that it could be abused.

I prefer having the Unvote both from a player and Modding perspective. Some rules are there to be worked around and be taken advantage of for your benefit. Like fouling in basketball. Legitimate tactic while technically against the rules to do so intentionally. I don't see it anything the same as a being inactive. There's a difference between inactivity and low-posting. I've known low-posters that make their posts count and are fully active. I've seen "active" posters that post nothing but spam and "I've been busy" posts without ever following up with opinions.

I got rid of it, and want to get rid of the bold red also. Basically, if you post something that looks like a vote, it is a vote. I did it in order to make gameplay a bit more "pure." I see your point about it being a strategy, but I think it is an issue of preference for whether or not to include it.

That would be horrible. There needs to be some sort of official formatting for votes so as to avoid controversy.

Seemed to not be a problem during DPR's ghost game.

Yes, but the extent was that votes needed to be clear so put them on their own line. And that they should be bolded. Nothing about being red, etc.

I think we are getting a bit off topic here, but if I see someone type in:

{Bold}vote Wombat{\bold}

to me that looks like they are trying to vote but didn't get the coding correct. So even if the rule is that a vote must be bold, I would still lean toward accepting that as a vote. That is what I was thinking off, more that the rule should go from "Votes must be bold and red" to "Votes should be bold and red but if you type in something that is clearly meant as a vote your mod will take it that way"
