Loial is a Darkfriend!

It would be utter genius if loial turned out to be a darkfriend.

 

He could end up killing someone really close to rand e.g. min, elayne or avienda. Or pretty much anyone of his choosing, considering no one would ever suspect him.

 

Imagine the if hed been biding his time, just waiting for the most devastating moment to pounce.

This is actually something that's always interested me: can Ogier even be darkfriends?

Problem is, considering the Blight, and Ogier longevity, what sort of promise could the DO make to an Ogier that that Ogier would find both attractive and credible?

 

Especially a young Ogier like Loial?

Do we ever get an Ogier POV in the series? I cannot remember. Ogier seem to have a much better grasp on how the world works and how they fit in than humans. Seems unlikely that Randland Ogier would ever turn to the DO. Be interesting to see just how different the Seanchan Ogier turn out to be. You would have to think that Semirhage would want some of the gardeners on her side.

actually we do. In KOD we see just before the massive orc attack out of Loial's POV. Mainly about loial's wedding and the great stump.

I remember coming across a note about it being impossible for Ogier to be Darkfriends, but I can't remember where or when.

RJ was asked about it once, and the response I read was that he gave them a wierd look and said RAFO.

 

I don't have a source for that though ...

I just remember seeing it.

 

Anyway, given what scraps of POV we have from Loial, I would say its all but impossible that he would turn out to be a DF.

I admit...I aways root for the badguys in movies, but not in WOT. It would be truely shocking if Loyal was anything but just as he seemed, but it would make a hell of a storyline. I don't think he's a darkfrind, but with RJ who knows?

I know of no direct quote from Jordan.

 

What we do have is Rand's observation when talking to Loial at the manor that no Ogier could ever lie convincingly; their faces and bodies are simply too expressive. Their own physiology seems to impose honesty.

 

So, I'd say it might be possible for an Ogier to be a Darkfriend, but he/she would never be able to hide the fact that they were.

When Loial and Karldin return to Cairhien after visiting the waygates, one of the AS comments that a young Ogier makes a terrible liar. Meaning that maybe they can get better telling lies as they get older.

Still seems unlikely that any Randland Ogier would turn darkfriend. Still not sure about Seanchan Ogier "gardners".

Iirc the chapter before the trolloc attack in KoD is the only time we have had a Loial POV.

 

Can anyone remember if he says or does anything apart from about Elder Haran and his marriage and his Mother?

 

It is possible that this is put in to mislead us. Because the POV of darkfriends has always given them away, but if there was nothing in it to bring the subject to mind then it might not have been mentioned.

 

Most DFs think of little else than their plans and missions but an Ogier might be different.

 

 

BTW I don't really have any beleif that Loial is a DF. I'm just taking a thought and running with it
