black streaks across the sky

When Loial, Hurin, and Rand go to the mirror world in TGH and they find that Artur Hawkwings memorial Hawk statue has been replaced by a Trolloc memorial with a raven, Rand sees some strange black streaks across the sky. Any ideas about what that was? Airplanes? Why would it be airplanes in a world were Randland had been overrun by trollocks?

And the one power was invented by some evil dudes named Thomas Edison and Nicola Tesla. They were influenced by the dark one himself! Its tainted!

Shayol Ghul was this big white looking building where the dark ones representative sat in a place abbreviated D.C. for Death of the Commmon man.

Just a suspicion mind you, after all I live in the age of madness, not the age of legends.

But why did RJ put it there then? just as a cool thing?

There are as many "just cool" things as there are significant things in WoT. This would, with just one book to go, be a definite RAFO.

And what is RAFO?=)

Lol one of RJ's favorite answers to questions.

Read and Find Out.

Do you think that RJ added those "just cool things" in order to mabye write more about them later, to makte them significant.

Or do you think that he didnt intended it to be more than "a cool thing" to wonder about?

He wanted to add as sense of there is more going on here then you think, a sense of connection between the ages, a sense of our world/age being apart of the Wheel.

I recall somewhere in the world is a huge dish with a spike in the middle that if anyone goes near, they will die. And noone knows what it is. I think this is my favourite remnant from our age

I think it depends really. Some things are mentioned in my opinion to show how big the world is, and how amazing.

Then you have things like the Tower of Ghenjei, that seemed so long ago to just be 'cool things' and ended up being instrumental to the story.

Loial said something about that particular mirror world be an especially unlikely one, hence the faded appearance. I just figured somehow airplanes (or maybe fighter jets, since this world seems to have an affinity to weapons) survived all the intervening ages in this unlikely version of events. The problem with that theory though is that there must've still been a breaking because the landscape is the same as the "real" world. which would probably mean that events in that world were more or less the same up until after the breaking, and just the outcome of the trolloc war was different. Is it possible that it isn't a "mirror" world they're in (where you actually could run into an alternate version of yourself), but a shadow world of sorts? Meaning it looks like the real world, but has random artifacts from other possible worlds.

The black streaks in the sky could possibly be a thing caused by the Dark One. What exactly, I am not sure.

Oh I recall that I read somewhere about that too. But I have no idea what that would resemble in our world.

kinda makes me think of the old A-bomb the mutants worshipped in the forbidden zone in that planet of the apes movie. there actually are quite a few movie bits throughout the series, and more than one from planet of the apes. and an awful lot from lawrence of arabia and gunga din, as well. this one seems apesy to me though.

Seems almost like a massive satellite dish, but I'm not sure what would be fatal about that. I know I should know what it is...

I forgot about those black streaks, perhaps it is simply a weather phenomena in that world, probably a result of the DO effectively winning there.
