The Rand/Elayne thing has never made any sense to me either, primarily because of the friendship between Elayne and Avi that is developed. For a few books, Egwene and Avi started to develop a friendship and became near sisters. Then, it seems like when RJ needs Elayne and Avi to like each other, it's almost as if Elayne and Egwene switch places. It was truly baffling to me the first time I read through the series - I wondered if I had been misreading a characters name for the past 3 books. Suddenly, Avi and Elayne are best friends and Avi and Egwene are distant.

Rand and Min works great. Elayne and Rand is more of a "Love at first sight" kind of thing, and I never really got it. Aviendha and Rand grew on me too, but Rand x Min is still the best couple. Pardon me for going off topic a bit, but if any of the harem died during Tarmon'Gaidon, if Avi or Elayne died, Rand would go into a loverage/waderrage. If Min died, he'd go into a loverage/waderrage then kill himself. He can live without the other two. He HAS lived without the other two, but Min's always at his side. Tbh, it's one of my favorite pairings.

This. Also Brandon said they're a good example of a healthy relationship in WOT. And it doesn't hurt that Min is actually loving. Most of the others try to, but have issues with the concept...

For me many of the relationships are immature and forced just like mine were when I was a teen.

Remember most of these ppl are very young and nothing turns on young people like the thought they are going to die. Think of all the weddings that took place when WW1 and WW2 started. That's the way I think of these relationships.

Having said that I really think Mat and Tuon are the best relationship. I think it's funny and fairly well portrayed.

As for Rand and the gang it's a story line that has always rubbed me the wrong way. These strong, intelligent women all agree to share him??? I just find it hard to believe. How ling would they really put up with it. But for the sake of the story maybe it's essential that the Dragon has ancestors among both the Aiel and the Wetlanders.

In fairness, its understandable the Aviendha isn't all that against sharing Rand- after all, she has grown up in a culture where "sister wives" aren't uncommon. Since Elayne and Aviendha have become very close and taken each other as sisters, we know they are close to each other, and I can see Elayne being more happy to "share" Rand with someone she cared about and loved, albeit in a different way, too. And I believe Min's always been the one most uncomfortable with the relationship sharing idea, which seems appropriate. Oddly enough, three women agreeing to share him isn't the part I find unbelievable XD Although, admittedly, not the most believable romance in the world...

A lot of them really do feel very superficial and forced. Someone commented above that Egwene and Gawyn deserved each other and I totally agree - they are two of my least favourite characters due to being so horrendously arrogant and refusing to acknowledge their own mistakes.

Faile's immature BS really annoyed me to no end - although that's in no small part due to the fact my wife is much the same...must be a women-in-general thing ;)

Ready.. Aim.. BALEFIRE!!!!!

i really like loial and erith as a couple.. they seem the most fitting.

While I like them as a couple also, they suffer from the Rand/Elayne syndrome of unbelievability. How much time have these two actually spent together? A couple of hours? At least Rand and Elayne had a week or two. It's a little hard to build a believable, deep relationship in a couple of quick conversations.

Also, Perrin was my favorite up until Faile starts yelling at him for talking to Berelain. The woman needs to chill. I feel like if I were a friend of Perrin's it'd be one of those awkward situations where I'd be thinking "Man, you're not as fun since you hooked up with that crazy broad of yours."

Not saying Faile isn't overly jealous at times, but as far as Berelain goes, she's a gorgeous woman, being perfectly honest that she's trying to steal Perrin away from Faile. It isn't like Berelain and Perrin are old friends, or even friends at all, until, possibly, after Faile's capture, and she doesn't cease her pursuit of him until ToM, at which point Faile seemed to have progressed from having a go at Perrin for talking to Berelain. I wouldn't say its Faile's most unreasonable personality quirk to have issues with Berelain. I've read so many people complain about Faile's "irrational dislike for Berelain", elsewhere more than here, and I honestly don't see whats irrational about it...

Like I say, I'm not saying Faile isn't a jealous wife, she is- or at least, she is earlier on, she seems to be moving beyond that now- but I can see why she dislikes Berelain, and I suspect she's worried that Perrin will unintentionally encourage her with his behaviour... Meh, maybe its just me.

im pretty sure there is something about them having known each other at the stedding before loial left and then loial travels with her at one point (cannot remember why or the circumstances right now.. too early) but when they get married and its from his pov, he's talking about all the talks that they've had and that she mostly listens to him talk but is smart when she has stuff to add, etc etc... so i think we just havent SEEN their relationship, but that there is a lot there

Nope, Loial and Erith had one meeting for a few hours back in TGH and that's it, the next time they saw each other they got married.

I guess RJ really believed in love at first sight. ;)

Well, it was an arranged marriage, right? I'm not sure it's as much love at first sight as it is them happily discovering the possibility that they might actually like each other.

nynaeve and lan.

bloody hell. if i hear one more word about mishaiara BS i swear i am going to choke someone....

If Nyn hadn´t met Lan and Rand didn´t have no Min I think Nynaeve and Rand could be together. They would make a sweet couple me thinks.

I don't know... I think Nynaeve sees Rand as a young lad still needing to be looked after, from the days back in the Two Rivers. That would have been a tricky thing to get past, methinks...

Well then this line must be misleading my perception:

"He had had a number of long talks with her- she was a wonderful conversationalist..." "Vows" in KoD

I think she was like that before, but she has changed. She really cares for Rand now, as friend, not a young boy she needs to take care of. I´ve always enjoyed their time and convos together.

I do think they have become good friends, but in more of a brother and sister kind of way. I would find them mildly disturbing as a couple. Also, I think their relationship is really wonderful as it is. Turning it into a love thing would spoil it somewhat.

No ! Their relationship is too much like that of an elder sister and a younger brother even in the latter stages of the series. It would just be wrong !

And this is Randland we are talking about, half of these women are really gorgeous.

Until they get married and have children. They then become plump. There are the exceptions of Aes Sedai and rulers as not all of them are plump. Morgase is still beautiful, a "flower in full bloom," when Alteima goes there after Tear fell.

Morgase/Tallanvor is my least favorite.
