Here's a role I used recently

 

The Temptress

Mafia Aligned

Anonymously offers beneficial powers to a non mafia member at night through the mod

If accepted something bad happens to them the next night

 

The original incarnation of this role had it offering one of three possible things (Roleblock protection, Nightkill protection, Lynch protection) and the "bad thing" that happened was death

What I ended up doing was changing it from death to permanent Roleblock but you could use anything pretty much

Taking away their vote sounds pretty good

 

Oh and the non mafia part is kind of important

Offering teammates lynch protection is kind of OP and I learned that the hard way

Some of these are not original after all, but renamed. We thought they were original at the time. Still, you might like our versions, so we left them here.

 

I've been wondering, which of these are the ones you later found out weren't original after all?

The thing about all roles is that that's kind of a hard question. Some roles are essentially the same but have different names. Or, you think you come up with an original role, but it's essentially just a variant of another role. I don't think it really matters. I love this thread, though - sometimes I use roles here, or they give me ideas for other roles.

Forum mafia has been around for years now - almost any role we could make up has probably been done somewhere else. So look at it this way - the list probably doesn't include a ton of totally new roles, but they are new to DM.

You know, I kinda want to play a bastard modded game.

I have a few that I've run in the past. I might run one on DM sooner or later, not sure yet.

 

They need to be precise - you can't just toss in randomness, as you'll quickly lose the playerbase. It needs to be a puzzle for the players to figure out - in other words, there needs to be a method to the lies and disinformation. It can't be random.

Why do you need to advertise Verby and Womby? We already have one of each. And they do just fine publicizing themselves. (And the game sounds interesting.)

Silver tongue: Can lie and not be detected by a lie detector (Mafia aligned)

 

Basel's:

 

Rubber tongue: Cannot convince the lie detector. No matter what the rubber tongue says, it will view as a lie (Town aligned).

Godfatherizer: Chooses one player nightly.  When viewed that player shows a false reading for role or alignment.

 

Death gifter: Grants several people abilities upon their passing

 

Sacrifice: Dies instead of another player (lynch or NK) on the phase of their choice.

 

Ability Thief: Borrows the abilities of the player they target for that night (player still has their own use, if x shot ability has been used up then this player gets nothing)

 

Bloodsucker: Nightly kill.  Twice the individual may permanently gain some of the powers from the person they kill. 

 

Redoubler: for every 2 votes on the individual the power of their vote raises by 1

 

King: Sends the Mod a post which the mod writes out in game as a proclomation from the king,

        As Town: Abilities of player are doubled (this is a role modifier), anonymous second vote (listed as from the mod), End night once

        As Mafia: Anonymous PM twice, anonymous second vote, change a players target once

        As Third Party: Nightly Kill, 1x recruit, anonymous second vote

 

I have more roles but I will post them another time.

I thought a body guard was generally 1 person who would die instead of another but they didn't have the choice of who?

i've seen it used 3 ways. assigned to a person, chooses one person a tthe beginning of the game and chooses a new person each night. concept is still the same though

 

edit - its also similar to the one i posted called Matyr only difference with the Matyr role is the player is untold that their sacrifice (if successful) will result in them being resurrected and their alignment changing to the person they protected the next Day phase.

 

it rewards them for choosing to sacrifice themselves for another player
