I think we are being killed ritualistically and when we are resurrected we are unwitting pawns.

This is my current theory exactly.  Alys' point that it could be folks using their relics without realizing either what they do or the consequences behind them bears mentioning as well, though.

Nothing like the sound of players trying to figure out the setup to tell a mod he's done his job well.  Carry on.

;D

Hey Kiv, what Alys said about getting modkilled to verify statements made me think of EY's move in your Mass Hysteria game on JN.  8)

Don't try to understand it.  Understanding brings madness.  As the great one himself wrote, "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents."  (H.P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu")

Otherwise known as the saying "ignorance is bliss".  ;)

Okay, I have a few pages to catch up on, but I figure I'll throw this out there first:

Al,since you never lie, how about a yes or no answer to this question? Are you mafia or cult?

Posted

Here's my overwhelming thought:

Al pops up with all kind of juicy info about the game and drives the last few pages with speculation about it. And everybody seems to be jumping in with both feet...

Kivam is an old school, traditional player. I doubt seriously that he is using the "theme" as anything other than window dressing - just like I do. In the end, speculation about the theme is pointless. You just play MAFAI, and if you stick with the basics the Town can win. Get caught up in all of the window ressing and the Mafia will win.

If I was mafia right now? I'd have zilched the finder and would be spinning yarns about Innsmouth from here to H.P. Lovecraft's well tended grave - and anyone who has played with me knows that.

Let's see what l does with my question. He's done something particularly clever with a PR he was given in the Dr. Who game (check it out if you have time...he really outsmarted a pretty tough situation) so I'm keeping my eye on him here.

I only know of one for sure, and it's the one that was stolen from me.  (Before I go any further, am I allowed to address the guess put forth by... I wanna say Al... that the relic stolen from me was one of this pair he seems to know about, Kiv?)

As long as you don't provide - expressly or by implication - any information that was in your PM about the relic (which includes the relic's name or what I told you about how it works . . .) you can say whatever you want

Yep.  Of course, there are plenty of ways to address it without giving her any satisfaction at all  ;D

Can those of you sitting on your damned night actions get them in already before I go batty trying to understand this chuthulu stuff?

It is also possible for the dead to take possession of the living through rituals,

Confirmation that a suspicion could be correct.

As for guesses for what these relics might be, I had thought with Al's resurrection that somebody had a vial of Herbert West's reanimation solution.

And again. Still nothing concrete. Fun.

Except that in this case, the theme actually seems to be helping to dig up clues as to what to do. Yes, we need to concentrate on the game, but extra win scenario is going to kill us if we don’t get this right. The problem is that Lovecraft’s mythos is so vast.

Secret mod NK’s. :D  Mod killing me at all after giving info actually kind of gives a clue that I might have said too much, but hey, I’m not trying to die just yet.

... As usual, I am tempted to suggest killing inactives. Or what DPR said.

I've been thinking about this vessel idea. Surely Kivam wouldn't make it as random as it seems on the surface? Can the vessel be ressurrected and if so are they still dangerous?

Yes, he would - and yes, they would be.

The vessel was chosen by random.org before the game.  I plugged all 24 names into its list randomizer, and the person it spit out first is the Vessel.  I then assigned roles and to numbers 1-24, re-entered the list, and that's how roles were handed out.  Completely random selection.

If the Vessel is resurrected, then they come back as the Vessel.

I was under the impression that the mafia would know who the vessel was but I guess I was wrong about that.  If I were Kivam I would include some way of divining who the vessel is, but who knows.  Even not knowing the who the vessel is and only knowing that there is one is an advantage for the mafia.

I understand that there is some stuff that we need to talk about and figure out.  We do need to figure something out about the relics and we do need to find out why or how people are coming back. I feel though that DPR is right, in the end, it's a mafia game.  There are a couple that seem completely unwilling to talk about anything else in detail.  I just wonder if they are scum that had the set task to confuse the hell out of all of us.

Kivam said if the vessel was a member of the mafia they wouldn't have the second win condition, since we know that they do have it then therefore the vessel is not mafia. This narrows it down a little.

DPR, I am not a cult member. I am not mafia. I have stated this previously. I asked for your opinion on my theory. You said I came with juicy information, I have just been putting together what others have been hinting at.

Danya that is correct, however I am like an Aes Sedai so be wary of anything that isn't direct or straight forward. I have found that it is more evil to have to manipulate people around that fact so after these games I will take a break from mafia.

I think that DPR and Barmacal are mafia right now. I have suspicions of another. Either way that is who I'll be looking at tomorrow. Prepare yourselves or kill me.

Alys, I'll respond when I get back from work about the plots and Quibby's comments.

Edit: Tigs right now it is night and I'll speculate about the game dynamics. Come tomorrow I'll chase after mafia. Plus DPR didn't say that first I did. Go check it is only a few pages back. Yesterday we had started going after mafia, but the day was ended to quickly.

Knowing the dynamics of this game is important and honestly it is just fun to try and figure out a mystery. Both need to be balanced. I am suspicious of people who keep trying to repeatedly guide the talk away from it, it seems like they are trying to hide something. You are right about needing to try and find scum, we have a declared finder and people keep getting resurrected. I find that more disturbing honestly. There is always balance...

Alys - thankyou for blowing me wide open. If I had been laying a trap for mafia or cult, you would have just successfully ruined it. I may not have played many mafia games with you, but I have played the game once or twice in my time. Just because I'm not playing exactly how you would play in my position does not mean I don't have a valid strategy or that I'm doing it wrong. Just really needed to get that off my chest because that post really annoyed me.

I was speculating over viewing our reincarnated players. I never confirmed or denied if I actually was going to. If I was a total noob like you seem to think, I would have outed the confirmed innocent I found night two as soon as I could. Not trusting my role reveal is fine, even giving helpful suggestions, but please let me play the game and trust me to have at least a modicum of a clue on how to use my power. :)

Now...I have to agree with DPR. Let's not lose sight of the game we're playing by getting caught up in the relics and mythos. There are still scum out there. And even if we find the vessel, it means nothing if we don't take out all the mafia along with it.

And after all that, after today I will be LOA for two days (Sat and Sun for me, Sun and Mon for you US types) as I'm going away and internet access and time will be sketchy at best. Will try to follow along on my phone though!

When people preface their statements with the word "honestly" repeatedly, it makes me wonder if we are supposed to think they are not being honest when they don't say it.  If you don't lie then why must you reassure us you are being honest.

I'm still toying with the line of what can and can't be said about relics, so sorry for anything that's unclear...

The one stolen from me was definitely town-unfriendly.  The assumption that was made earlier to its nature is wrong, but it is still unfriendly.
