Ah, the good ol' pings. Useless but handy nonetheless.

And you are right, Batty (Wom? Bat? WWW?). It has been a long time since I've played a mafia game, especially on OG, because for some crazy reason I tend to always ping people as evil (most notably DSage and Thorum), and they spend their entire time trying to get me killed. It wears, after awhile. :)

With that said, there are many people out there who are not really aware of my playing style, and that's ok. I don't know that I really have one...but I have a really good rep at finding mafia--AND I WILL FIND YOU OUT MAFIA!!!!!

So here are my thoughts:

It's Day 1. We aren't going to learn much here. I typically refuse to place a Day 1 vote, because I have never encountered a game where on Day 1 a person was lynched and turned out to be mafia through actual strategizing and deduction. It just doesn't happen. (I'm so very the opposite of "gut feeling" person. In fact I HATE it when people use "I just have this feeling" as a reason.) So we typically see innocents dying on Day 1.

Typically the mafia are quiet in the beginning of the game, because they don't want to place a great big target on their back for those individuals who like to "LAWLDAY1" vote and just pick someone because they also believe in my above opinion.

Alys does not strike me as evil..yet. She is usually quite helpful and involved when she is innocent. When she is evil, she will manage to come up with every excuse in the book for lurking. What she isn't saying, is that she is being just as active, only via pm. :P

Barm is also another one who gets really quiet when he is evil, unless there is someone else in the mafia team that is a clear leader and has a good plan. I think that his current tag team with Kivam could point to this, but on the other hand, Barm is being just a smidge too defensive with Kivam for me to be suspicious of it.

Pandy and Batty's comments I found to be curious. It is possible that some of the roles in the game that were partnered had to find the other person for a certain benefit, and Batty caught on. The only reason I point this out, is because Wombat didn't really hesitate to answer, nobody else bothered to hone in on the 'joke', and then there really wasn't any sort of following up of said joke. It was just, "Agree with me. Someone agreed. Noted." Perhaps I'm reading too much into things, like 70% of the other people here. :D

Daet came out guns a'blazin, which is very weird. I don't recall him ever really just throwing votes around, and he didn't really have a 'good' reason for voting me. Others probably had better reasons, and they didn't throw their vote on me.

Kivam is busy. It worries me, because when he isn't talking, he's planning something.  I happen to know that he actually is busy IRL, but it still freaks me out.

Lily--Lily was totally bad ass evil in my SG game, and she was sweet as pie. She also freaks me out. :D

And finally, the quiet ones. Quiet in the beginning of a game is not a good thing. Quiet toward the end of the game is even worse.

I think Naeann is evil. But I usually do. If there is any one person in Mafia games where I always think of someone as evil, it's Nae. It's probably because she rather annoyingly questions every single little thing that comes out of everyone's mouth. (Love you, Nae!  :-*)

And who is Talmanes? I'm usually good at at least recognizing names at DM...but I swear I've never seen this guy around.

Hey DPR, I just wanted to let you know that tomorrow I have a 4 1/2 hour drive to a doctors appointment for my son and the same back so I'm not sure if I will be able to get online tomorrow or not.  So if I don't check in then that is why! I will PM it to you also!

No worries! Have a good appt!

Talya, my little one loves the carrots - even over fruit - he's a carrot maniac :D

And...

You've all been very busy:

Current Vote Count

Pete (3) - ed, Hybrid, Pale

Talya (1) - Barm

Liliy (1) - Pandy

Barms (1) - Kiv

FDM (1) - Dae

Dae (1) - Alys

With 21 players, it takes 11 to lynch.

The link I provided has a list of all of the roles (click on the role to learn the details). The roles that are used in the game will play as described, with a few minor exceptions, to tweak them for this game. But they are 90% as described and more than enough for you to be able to spot a player or base a strategy on.

Party on.

Hey folks! I hadn't received my role pm when I was on DM yesterday so I had no idea the game had even started yet. And it just took me 45 minutes to catch up on everything and I already feel the need for a reread but I wanted to post first and make sure y'all knew I am around.

Didn't see any reason for FDM to request someone "find" her - double bluff is my gut feeling, but heck this is day 1 so no knowledge for sure.

For what it's worth -- and I know I'm echoing half the other players -- I agree that it's a shady move.

Maybe I've played too often with Mynd and the MJ folks, but I realized how much you can alter gut feelings with joke posts.  There's the subconscious effect on the cop that I think Naeann mentioned.  But then that post also puts a big target on her back for a night kill (Let's give the cop no information) and that affects the doctor as well (Do I gamble to prevent a night kill?).  Basically, it puts a bunch of roles in a WIFOM position, and I don't like that.

I don't like thinking too much. That's what I don't like. Wrong game to be in, eh? I've also never played with the vast majority of you guys, so I don't know how you 'normally' play. All I can do is sit and watch and hopefully pick something up between the spamming, reminiscing, and accusations ;)

I don't like Far's post. It doesn't say a whole lot, since it's 90% metagaming, followed by "so we'd better watch this person." Considering she said that about a good quarter of the game, give or take, that's not so useful - especially given that it's almost entirely based on meta, when mafia roles would be assigned randomly.

Also, though she said it was a joke - asking the cop to investigate you when you're town is bad, since it wastes a cop investigation that could be better spent on finding a mafia. A better play for town would be to ask the cop not to investigate you (whether the cop believes you or not, that's another story). The only player who wants the cop to investigate them is a godfather, who is mafia but shows up as innocent to cop investigations.

However, useful meta about Alys. Is what she says true? Does Alys lurk to a ridiculous extent as mafia?

That said, I really don't like Ms. "All I can do is sit and watch and hopefully pick something up", aka Lavinya.

No worries Far I love you too!  :-*  I just wish you'd stop requesting to add me to yahoo.  Every time I check my mail the messenger thingie on there says Heidi(FDM) has requested to add you as a buddy... "Hey, add me as a friend so we can chat sometime."

In other news...  Barm IS quiet when he is evil. :P

Posted

Does that mean I'm cleared? Cause I'm pretty sure I haven't been quiet this game.

Hehe. Even one so slow as you Barmy may have realised we'd picked up on the "quiet as mafia" thing by now and exploit it to your own gains.

Then again, maybe not :P

Nae and Dae, I love you both. Seriously. Never talk to me again. :P

But, anyways... first..

i thought barm posted.

Was Wes actually the only person who caught this and / or thought it was funny?

But yes, I did label myself as hadn't posted yet. That wasn't a mistake, I wanted to see who would catch it; I'm glad a few of you did at least.

Now, a bit of history for you all.

For a while there, about a year ago and some time before that too, virtually every game had people asking for the finder to clear their name that night. And they were typically a lot more serious than FDM was this game. So yes, it is a scummy move, but frankly, it happened so early in the game that I think we can largely disregard it as nothing more than a stab at humour. I'd be a lot more concerned about it if she wasn't asking in jest, which I've seen happen enough times.

While we're on Far though, she HAS been a bit overly adamant about figuring out who Talmanes is (I think she's mentioned him three times now?), and that makes me rather leery of her.

Next is Dragonsworn, or Pete as you all seem adamant aboot calling him. So far he's full of inconsistencies. First he meta-games, accuses me of metagaming, and a little while later pulls out WIFOM to meta-game against me some more. So... whats the deal?

And then on top of all this, he claimed Nostalgia points for no discernable reason whatsoever right after I posted the original "Gambit" post, and hasn't been back since.

However, Pandy has brought up a valid point about Lavinya, and is something I've noticed to a lesser extent about Tigraine as well. They've both posted no content and have done nothing more than act confused. But, as they only have 2 or 3 posts each in the game, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Dae bugs me. He called me out in his first post, and then promptly voted for Far, and hasn't really said much since. Posted a few times, but not said anything.

The above are about the extent of my suspects at this time, the handful of others who have lots of posts just haven't done anything scummy yet that I've noticed, and most players haven't even posted more than a handful of times at most.

Based on what I have above, the two people I'm most likely to vote right now are Far or DragonSworn, and I have slightly more to go on for Dragonsworn, so...

So basically that was a long winded OMGUS.

Anyways the nostalgia points, was me joking around with Wes when he said my joke WIFOM was like watching a video of his kid trick-or-treating.

I haven't called you out for metagaming. I knew it was a joke as soon as you posted it. You just seem off this game and you are pinging my radar over everyone else, so you get my day 1 vote.

Barm, I did notice it, and I did think it was funny. It's been a very busy couple of days, so I haven't posted much.

I'm watching and trying to figure out who feels scummy to me. I'm also trying to figure out what to do to earn points in this game. lol I'll probably vote by the end of the day, because I don't like letting a random kill take place. But I don't know who yet.

Ok...

So basically that was a long winded OMGUS.

On the contrary, it was not a "long-winded OMGUS vote", it was my "short-winded analysis of the game" (I could have named everyone individually, but I'd be repeating myself a lot). I can understand you wanting people to think that it is though, as you had very little defense to post. Lets check it out.

Anyways the nostalgia points, was me joking around with Wes when he said my joke WIFOM was like watching a video of his kid trick-or-treating.

Fair enough, I read Wes's post differently, but each to their own. This was also half of your defense, and the only part of what I said above that really didn't matter.

I haven't called you out for metagaming.

Yes, you did. Thats all the post was, was meta-gaming, and it pinged your radar.

I knew it was a joke as soon as you posted it. You just seem off this game and you are pinging my radar over everyone else, so you get my day 1 vote.

Pinging your radar after multiple posts makes sense, that is understandable and reasonable. What doesn't make sense is your contradiction of yourself about my first post.

Either it is obviously a joke, or it is not obviously a joke, and something to be suspicious of. You claim the post pinged your radar, meaning you don't think it is just some big joke, but at the same time you have said that you think it is just some big joke. So, which is it? Was I joking or pulling some gamble off?

You see now why I'm voting you? Its not because you're voting me, I don't roll that that. Its because of the inconsistencies in your logic behind voting me.

I knew your post was a big joke, but your joke just felt off. I don't know how to describe it other than that. As far as me being inconsistent goes, I have maintained all along I believe you were joking, your metagaming was a joke, like I said before it just felt off and pinged my radar.

Oh and by the way FDM I'm insulted!  ;D

But you seriously did seem a little obsessed about finding out who I am.

Any certain reason for that?

I mean I have been around for a little while, and have been especially active recently.

You've come a long way, baby!

True.  But nobody should really care about losing an innocent Day 1.  Day 1 isn't about finding mafia, its about generating data.  The only thing to worry about is losing a critical role.  If our shrink goes down, or our firefighter, then we have a serial killer running around (as I understand it, both those roles can "cure" SK roles and turn them into townies).  We lose our finder, we're blind.  We lose our doc, we're exposed.  Other than that, or some other really useful role not coming to mind right this second, I'm ok with losing a townie on Day 1.

Nope.  This is right on.

Ha - I wish!

About Wombat agreeing with me - it's good for the town. I'm the Evangalist. When somebody posts that specific phrase, it changes my abilities at night. I won't reveal what happens exactly, since that would give too much away to the mafia. But that's the reason for my wanting him to say that.

Lily's normally much more proactive than this. I'm thinking she's trying to lay low - much like Lavinyayaa.
