I'm enjoying the Shadow over Fiddlesmouth Game even though I'm not playing it but I was in it *Winks*

I'm curious to see how the game will finish.

I have no problems naming the people who are my biggest peeves about not actually playing.  I love them as people but as players they royally suck for doing it game after game after game... maybe I'm just mean like that. :P

You know Nae, this made me laugh. I came really close in my Disney game to naming the players who kept us waiting night after night with their night actions. I loved your comment on the mafia QT board: Tell us who they are and we'll nk them. I'll be honest. I know who they are, too, and they don't get the valuable roles in my games. Then if they don't turn in their night actions.... meh. The game goes on anyway.

Al, we shall see what we shall see. It is very frustrating though, especially since I come from the old school dm crowd where lurking in a game was rare and not playing after signing up meant something was really wrong. Loa's upcoming meant you sat out and let others play in that spot unless it  was a day or three tops. Meaning we played because we liked it not because it was the thing to do.

I think this basically sums up the whole thread for me.  Too many are doing the latter, and not the former.

And I'm sorry to say this, but I'm starting to feel less than enamored with some newer players that play here.  There are too many insulting remarks being tossed around, and they aren't coming from the OG veterans.  Sarcasm is peachy - I know Alys uses it to perfection.  :-*  But she, or other OG vets, don't take it any further than that, and if they do, it is extremely rare.  I'm seeing this every other page in games now, and it's ridiculous.  Makes me not want to play anymore.

*Laughs* I'm not in any games right now, but after my LoA from the 9th through the 19th I will look for a game to play in. I had a lot of fun playing with you. That is probably my favorite feeling when I am town is finding someone you are willing to trust. You can never really trust someone, however you need to take that step to form teamwork to overcome the distrust that mafia sow. There was so much that I wanted to comment on in the game that I have to wait for.

Verbal I am sorry that you feel that way. You and Alys are exactly right, mafia should be a game that you do because you enjoy it not because it is popular. However I have only seen one player around recently that has taken to using 'insulting remarks'. Maybe a few more when they get worked up, but I feel that is reasonable in a game where deception is integral.

There are just so many of us new players that I think your statement is a bit of an exaggeration. For the most part I feel that the majority of new members play well and smartly, however I see a lot who are inactive in the game.

Verbal I would actually like to ask you questions about mafia. I'll shoot you a PM once the games we were both in are over. I am more curious why you do some things since I feel you play very similarly how I would if I was more... reserved *Laughs*

Alys there are so many games going on around DM it is crazy. I think that having some active and some less active members is how it will go though. Active members push and drive the game forward and less activity makes it much easier to hide and not be a target, which mafia, finders/doctors, and other key roles sometimes use. Although I will admit I usually go after the quieter players in any of those roles because there is generally enough information from active players.

I hope to see you all in a future mafia game.

No, its not just you.  I out and out told one or two people on Myndjack that they were not welcome to sign up for any game I ran, and there are a few more here on DM who will be getting that PM from me after this game - at least, not until they can link me to multiple games where they were active.

That said, my biggest pet peeve right now is probably Pete.  I hate to say it, but I can't stand the way he plays mafia.  Being in a game with him is excruciating - there's no logic at all to what he does, and it's not like he's got a good "gut instinct" to make up for it.  And watching him as a mod is, if anything, worse - it's like watching a mental midget stagger around with a chainsaw . . . you know he's going to hurt himself, and you just have to hope there's no collateral damage.  It would be something if he was at least funny, as a cover for his ineptitude - but when he tries to joke around, it's like watching paint dry.  All in all, he's just a horrible player, and I wish he'd give up mafia for good.

Boo on you SG people and your tasks spilling out everywhere onto DM!  >:( It really is kind of annoying, you know.

Wha...?

Pete's playing is AMAZING. Gawd. I don't get it. It's an SG task?

I'm confused. *hangs head*

My pet peeve when playing mafia is Al Jenn. You know I love you but I kinda want to throttle you when we play together ;)

Doesn't help that you were scummy in both games.

Hmm.... methinks he's beaten you a few times.  ;) And I KNOW that knowing he and I pulled off a better gambit than the one you're famous for had to sting a bit, didn't it? Pete is an amazing player, with really good instincts and the ability to push creative thinking to constantly higher levels. I can see where someone like you might be threatened by that, Kivam.

As a mod, yes, he's had some games drag a bit lately. But he always comes up with original ideas, and has invented a number of new, fun roles. We all are allowed to have RL issues come up from time to time. I can't compare his modding to yours, having never played in one of your games, but I never miss a Pete-run game. They are always original and exciting.

;D  Way to stand up for him.  Knew you would  ;D

What game did you two pull off a gambit in?  I'd love to read it

Oh bother. I wasted money on the assassins and the rather expensive poisons too.

Ummm... sorry if you had some of your close friends fall dead suddenly, Kivam. It's really not my fault.

Al kinda sorta hinted at a point I'd like to make.  I know people have misconstrued what I've said in game as well as others so  I'm going to try to clarify this.

Yes, we have some naturally talented people who haven't been playing long.  We also have some that have pulled of some nice moves or just seems to have pure luck.  But let me put it this way;

If you are the star player on your high school basketball team and your team is the champions year after year that is AWESOME.  You will go far in the game.(with more practice and more games under your belt)  However, if you try, with your raw talent as a sophomore on the team, to take on Shaq and the Lakers you may get a few good shots in but it's highly unlikely you would win that game.

I'm in no way saying I'm comparable to the mafia version of a Laker.  Unless I'm a benchwarmer with a broken leg.  I'm just saying that even naturally talented singers take years of lessons to finely tune their God given talent.  When I was new I considered Kivam, DPR, Alys, Far, Loki, Barm and Talya "gods" of mafia.  I still consider them amazing players and ask advice from them but now it's more like I'm the senior on the college basketball team so they aren't quite as intimidating.

Cmon people do you REALLY think Kivam would be that cold and rude to someone?  That was a bit overdone Kivs.  If he really had a problem with Pete he wouldn't air it in public he'd go to Pete privately. :P  Silly peoples.

LOL okay. First of all, I don't <i>know</i> Kivam all that well, so how should I know what he would and wouldn't say ;) On top of that, tensions and hostility have been running a bit high when it comes to mafia lately, so I thought it was <i>possible</i> he had just taken it a little too far. I figured he was probably joking, though, hence why I asked if he was serious.

It's fun to be over the top, sometimes

There's only one God of mafia.  Sadly, she retired

It WAS a tad transparent, wasn't it? *giggle* Still, I meant every word about Pete. The ones about Kivam, not so much.  ;)

Kiv, it's a long game, but here's the link.

http://forums.dragonmount.com/index.php/topic,53303.0.html

This is the summary I wrote in another game, explaining why I thought the use of the key phrase was a bad idea. The one thing I didn't mention below is that we recruited Pete mid-game.

In Rey's game, Ed was the Lie Detector. Pete figured that out and came up with the phrase "I am not anti-town" and had each of us say it. I was Godfather, not so eager to comply. Long story short, I sacrificed myself to take attention off my team, and to smoke out the finder, by counter claiming lie detector. We lost me, were able to kill the lie detector AND the finder, and go on to win the game. THAT, my friend, is the Twofer gambit we are all so proud of! Granted, Ed was recruited by the cult, and ultimately killed by the vig, but we still count the gambit a success. Anybody who felt like you do and didn't want to say it, we did our best to get them lynched. There are other reasons besides being scum to not want to say something like that, and we took advantage of every single one of them. And this is why I am so against that phrase being allowed to be used by a lie detector. Not because of what it cost me, but because of the lengths we were able to take advantage of it, and keep the attention on it, and off of our scum team.

The best part of the game was watching the LD and the finder go at each other, trying to get each other lynched, firmly believing the other was scum, because they were innocent. One of our team had the framer ability, and we had framed Ed, so the finder really believed he was trying to lynch scum. We laughed our butts off at that one. Unfortunately, you won't see much on thread, because most of the fun was behind the scenes. I admit, I never would have gotten so creative if we hadn't been pushed into a corner by the stupid phrase. It's all their fault. Really.  ;D
