Music and Scenes

So I had my Ipod on shuffle today and Disturbed "Down With the Sickness" comes on.  I started thinking if Wheel of time is somehow made into a movie/tv series/whatever, how awesome it would be for "Down With the Sickness" to be playing during the Dumai Wells scene.  Anyone else have some songs that they think would fit certain scenes?

Strictly folk music, especially Irish and Scandinavian. Think a battle scene, a charge with two or three bodhrans whipping up a beat, with a fiddle or two going absolutely bonkers on top of that.

I can't understand how people can associate modern music with WOT.

Hmm Death in Fire by Amon Amarth would be better, IMO. And you could also get a battle metal band to come up with soundtracks for it, as well as power metal. I'm sure a band like Blind Guardian would love to perform the score for a movie like this. They have a great range of songs they play, from all acoustic to full on metal.

I've been thinking of this music ever since I read the Great Hunt for the first time.  In the scene where Rand and party go to the ball held by Riatin or Damodred (i cant remember who) and Mat and Hurin go looking for the horn and dagger.  A great song would be Black Diamond by Stratovarius.  It has that awesome harpsicord playing at the beginning of the song that would fit perfectly with the ball (a la Louis XIV at versailles) then it kicks into metal madness as the scene progresses and gets more and more intense as they get closer and closer to finding the trail.

I think original scores similar to that used in movies like LOTR, and  Troy are the only thing that would work.

It's the only way to go for the epic that any WoT based film/show would be. George Lucas made sure of that.

But there are several really good movie score composers who jump immediately to my mind.

- John Williams (Star Wars, Harry Potter, 2004 Olympic Theme, ect. A Musical genius. Definitely the BEST there is)

- Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre(s))

- Howard Shore (LOTR)

- Hans Zimmer (the last two Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur, Kingdom of Heaven, ect.)

- Alan Silvestri (The Polar Express, Night at the Museum, Van Helsing, The Mummy Returns, and others)

- Michael Giacchino (Ratatouille, several Lost episodes, Sky High, and several video games)

- David Holsinger (I don't think he has done any movies, but his songs are good)

I've added more as I've remembered them.

whoa! you actually forgot hans zimmer (king arthur, kindom of heaven, crimson tide, tears of the sun and many others)

I tried to think of other movies with really good scores, but it was late, and none of his came to mind. I went and added him to the lise, along with a few others.

Dumai Wells, O'Fortuna maybe...the Aiel crossing the dragonwall...Flight of hte Valkeries,  I am a big fan of classical though, however, I really think that the right person could do alot with more modern music as well.

But, to fit the music that is already in the books, one with need to go with a basic instrument set-up throughout the entire series, even for background music,  basica stringed instruments, acoustic guitar, banjo, a few otehrs, a hard, some kettle-type drums, a few wind instruments, woodwinds mostly, something along the lines of a trumpet/french horn or trombone....so basically...and orchestra.. :P  and maybe a piano

Bach, Beethoven, Wagner-- classical music, throw in Gegorian chants, a few semi-religous works(Mozart's Requim) and you have 80% of the music, throw in Irish, Scandinavian folkmusic and a ltiilt Flamengo (those tinker girls making Perrin blush) and we are set.  John Williams, etc. are good but they are copies of the originals. Go with the mastrs!

Scores would work for battles, giving the mood, etc.  However, when ever I think of an actual song being played in the books... Clutch always comes to mind.  They are a modern band, but their stuff always reminds me of the WOT, D&D, etc.  Their music just hits me as being very much like a bard.  A good song to listen to would be: Drink to the Dead, the Soap Makers (reminds me of Tinkers), Yeti, Circus Maximus, etc.

one song the always puts me in mind of WOT(in particular the heavy channeling scenes) "revolution deathsquad" by dragonforce, speed metal i believe, the corus in particular.

another band i think could compose music suitible for WoT is Nightwish.

classical style stuff would work as well in my oppinion but a bit of modern (o long as its done well) would help some scenes i think.

There are at least a dozen scenes where Hammerfall's A Legend Reborn would fit perfectly.

As much as I agree that a serious movie would need classical and folksy type music for much of the score, the WoT adapted to power-metal music video format would fulfill so many dreams for me.

[/For the entertainment and such avaliable today, Williams is THE master.i]

Only if you belive that the Boston Pops is the end all and be all of Music.

Bach beethoven Mozaqrt were original, Williams stuff is mosty a ripoff of other composers.

After reflection I think my previously mentioned classical choices with a smattering of heavy metal would do the trick.
