You have to show Dumais Wells to show why the power is dangerous and people fear it. Maybe you don't show it to the level described in the books but you need enough to show the danger, also why Perrin is disillusioned.

We can agree to disagree on that one.

It really depends on what kind of vibe they're going for.

The source material is full of mature content that Jordan skillfully dances around so it's not explicit. It's there, but Jordan doesn't paint a big neon sign that says "Look at this scene! People's gettin' sexy ovah here!" The show could do the same, and "hide the naughty bits" so to speak. Or they could go in the other direction and not shy away from showing anything.

I don't think it really matters much what they do with the violence. Depending on the rating, when someone gets destroyed by the Power it could be a tiny bit of red mist or it could be bones and entrails flying across the screen. This is an American production, we're very comfortable with excessive violence in our entertainment.

My only real concern is whether they're gratuitous about the nudity/sex. Game of Thrones didn't simply have nudity where it was appropriate, they leaned into it as hard as they could and often made "boobs! Sex!" the main focus of the shot. And it works for that show because GoT is a twisted and screwed up work where there are no "good" people, merely a bunch of a-holes screwing each other over (literally and figuratively) so excessive nudity and sex is fitting. Thematically, the WoT is a totally different animal and that kind of "softcore porn, but with dragons!" approach won't jive with the WoT characters or story.

For myself, I'm fine with the show showing the violence and nudity/sex but I don't want them to wallow in it like GoT did. If someone's naked in a scene (like when the Wise Ones are in the sweat tents, or whatever) then fine, they can be naked on screen, no reason to hide it or shy away from it. But don't make that the focal point of the camera. Just treat it as part of the story, and not as a reason for people tune in each week.

Related to this, what do you think they are going to do about the swearing. If they are going to have nudity and violence, there's no reason to hold back on the explicit language other than the fact that the books have their own version of swear words, which are going to sound really cheesy if they put those in the show. If you had a choice, would you rather they put book swears or modern swears in the show?

I hope they keep the made up swearing as context usually means you can figure out what it corresponds to. Also it would be hilarious for Elayne's inept swearing and I don't think the real words would have the same effect. I won't not watch it if they change the swearing but it will be jarring.

My guess is they go with both

I imagine it will depend on the degree to which they embrace gratuitous nudity and violence.  The more "realistic" and "gritty" they get with that, the more likely they are to use real-world vulgarity as well.  If, however, they stick to the level of the books in terms of their portrayal of such things, they will probably stick to the bookish expletives as well.

Is she inept at swearing? I thought she had a "Saucy tongue."

Maybe inept was the wrong word.

Inexperienced might be a better word, never heard it in the Palace but once outside she began to hear it a lot more and took a while to learn the Proper meanings and use the correct words at the correct pretext.
Like in telling someone to go away, you might say Bl***y off instead of f*** off if you know its a swear word but don’t know the meaning.

Or she could try over using them in the wrong place, like kids do when they first learn them. But is was also her mom that said she had a saucy tongue.

To be honest I thought in the books one of the sort of inside jokes was that Elayne cursed almost as well as UNO, I don't remember her being inexperienced.

One fun way to handle cursing and to emphasize the different Ages in the story would be to have the Forsaken curse using modern curse words, but keep the Randlanders using the WoT curse words, and the Forsaken can make comment on it

Elayne is the main reason I asked this question. I think that we will get a different impression of her character if at first we think of her as a regal prissy princess and then the moment she's away from authoritative eyes she's an expert at "Sailor talk," and I think that will only come across if they are using real word curse words.

I can see that but I think a few scenes with Uuo and Mat will show the swear vocab.

Possibly but not until the last episode, they need to establish the level of cursing earlier

Sexual union has been a requirement for the continuation of our species, is currently a fact of life for many and quite honestly, something I find much more appealing than blood and gore.  I hope they are as blunt about the distinction between nudity and sexuality as was Jordan.

"Saucy tongue" as used in the text does not mean profane, it indicates a willingness to challenge structural authority and speak your truth.

Elayne knows a few curse words early in the story but does not know their meaning as commonly understood so uses them erroneously. Birgitte comments something along the lines of "At least I know what to use where" when Elayne criticizes B's frequent use of profanity.

Uno and the other Shienerans provide Elayne with opportunity to learn more curses and someone thinks about Elayne repeating a curse under her breath after hearing Uno use it, something about "Elayne's lips moving as if repeating the phrase."  Per all the teenaged central characters in the books, and every human I've known irl, Elayne changes as she encounters life.  Hopefully the show keeps the text curses and has as much fun with the comedic relief available as did Jordan.

Geeky Eri's 3rd block video on YT essentially confirms that as a minimum we are getting boobs and butts maybe full nudity

How's about a link?

I recommend the whole video as there are a lot of things in there to be REALLY excited about but here is the link to the direct casting call which removes all doubt on nudity:

I truly hope they don't go MA. Can't it just be a fun fantasy/adventure?? Why would they need to focus on sex and gore? LAME. LOTR was a huge hit and didn't contain gore and sex. I would love for it to be tv-14 at most. If it goes MA, I won't be watching. But I'll always have the books at least. I read the 1st when I was 19 back in 1994. What a great world and loads of Characters Jordan created. I love Rosamund Pike too, so I really hope I get to watch it. But as I said, if they go MA, I'm out.

Well I just saw that Rosamund Pike mentioned there's plenty of male nudity in the show. Guess I won't be watching. Looked like they were gonna ruin it anyway. And they already recast Mat for season 2. Lol. Show is doomed.

Really? You will skip the show because they show a couple male butts and probably a few boobs? Lame. Everything I gave seen suggests this show will be a mega hit.

They have to at least keep "blood and ashes!" Please. Please don't scrap that one.

I'll laugh out loud (in a good way) if I hear "mother's milk in a cup."

Well, actually, they need to keep "Light", too. "Light" and "Blood and ashes." Even if they mix in some real swears, "Light" plays into the world's core theology (a common source of swear words in real life) and blood and ashes is just classic.

Is it just male nudity you dislike or nudity in general. Either way I doubt they’re going to GoT levels of nudity.

At least the first episode is just TV-14 but it is rated higher in other countries. They are definitely not going full GoT as Rafe said he wants you to be able to watch with your parents.
