Anyway, with regards to portable gateways, didn't the Shaido have some boxes given by one of the Forsaken, which could create gateways? Or was the entire premise there that said Forsaken was actually creating those gateways, and the boxes no longer worked when he (?) wasn't around? I am struggling with remembering the details, but they did for sure stop working once the Shaido were spread to the different corners of Randland...
The "fool boxes" ... you're correct that it was just a premise and Sammael was making the gateways.

If you did that, the Black Ajah would pop up to snuff you out. Wasn't that the whole reason Cadsuane had gone into retirement, more or less?
They can try *bares teeth*
Hmmm no she was just old and decided to try and grow roses or something so they couldn't make her Amyrlin.

I think this goes a long way towards actually fulfilling the self proclaimed goal of the Tower, and even the individual Ajah's. It's very difficult to be of any real help - medical, legal, or even military - when everyone has to come to you first.
Exactly! My hands itch to get in there and organise the lot of them ... LoL

Dobraine's Healing is a bit later - not related to Dumai's Well.
*nods* yes there's a big difference between the AOL Healing and current time Healing, but I was referring to just they way RJ describes current time Healing.

Knowing I am inside my car doesn't really tell me something useful as to where I am. Knowing I am on top of the pyramid of Giza does.
Excellent explanation! Thank you, Samt 🙂

You could have a few Kin, retired Aes Sedai, or even Asha'man, take up residence in an area and offer the ability not only to contact people in other towns but even provide the ability to Travel there. Since they are only loosely affialiated with the Towers there shouldn't be too much issue charging a small fee to do so.
It folds nicely in with the eyes and ears networks, and keeps all of the Channelers far more aware of what is actually going on in the world outside of the major cities.
That would work really well, methinks!
I've often thought that having groups of various kinds of Channelers stationed around Randland would be a good idea. They need to be organised and set up with some form of communication system so that if a person needs help, ie medical or legal, etc, then they could use that to contact their nearest group of Channelers and the required one/s could Travel to where they're needed.

Interesting question!
To make a Gateway, you need to know the place where you ARE, not the place where you are GOING. So putting aside having an appropriate containing vessel for it, I suppose it's possible as long as you the "caller" know the place where you are?
Not sure if your device could be considered a place ... *ponders*

Robert Jordan is very contradictory about Healing in the Books.
Sometimes he says that it's all just one Weave (check specifically when Lord Dobraine was Healed by Samitsu) and the only variation on that is that some Aes Sedai can "adjust the dosage", so to speak.
In other sections he makes it seem as if there are different Weaves for Healing.

Interesting question! I can't recall either if anyone has explained that anywhere.
I'm actually just rereading that book, so I'll keep an eye out for any mention of anything.
My first instinct is to say it would have the same effect as death, on the Warder.

Your name looks familiar ... welcome back!
Where did you used to hang out?

Welcome aboard the crazy train! So hard not to say anything that will be a spoiler for you, but I do hope you'll enjoy your WoT journey as much as we did/do 😀

GA would be where, for those of us not from the USA? (I presume it's one of your states?)
Oh, and good to see you posting after 12 years ... 🤣... come on down and explore the rest of DM!

Good on you! Must say I agree with her on most points 🙂

The Zulus live very far from any desert! LoL ... they live in the eastern part of South Africa, which is sub-tropical.

Yes 🙂

Hi, y'all! Do you want to know what you'd look like as... an Aiel, for instance? Or a Warder? Wolfkin? Aes Sedai? The Ajah who does not exist?
Yo' Mama can help with that 😉
You can head on over to this thread at the Creations Forum or if you're daring enough, this one at the White Tower and Warriors to find out how it's done.

Wish we had Ogier to set on them.

For instance, I used this photo of me:

Welcome to Dragonmount, Hiroto!
You seems to be what is to me a true Wielder of Power ... LoL ... Software Engineering is the next thing to magic, as far as I'm concerned!
Do you have any favourite characters or groups of people in the WoT?

Lovely to have you here, Emma!

Further to what Samt said, I think the author was quite realistic in writing the Seanchan society.
No society is perfect. Most have at least some good or bad points. And just because the Powers That Be decide on / implement something, does not mean that every single person who lives in that society is pure evil / pure good.

You could have it in booths, each with their own numbers or codes. Something like that would stay relatively the same for enough years to make it practicable.
