Looking for opinions.

If a player participates in a game twice (i.e. starts in on slot, dies, and subs back into the game in another slot), should it

1) count as two entirely separate games played

2) count as the first slot but result in a draw if that faction loses due to the second slot's faction winning

3) count as whichever slot won (starting rand is potentially ignored from the resulting statistics)

I'm leaning pretty heavily towards option 1 but open to suggestions.

This is not a common occurrence and should only affect about 100 slots.

Likely being the slot in question that caused this poll, I don't really have a preference, but what's fairest from an individual standpoint is probably to count both slots as games, and in my case, that would be one loss and one victory. Whether that's what works best for the data base or not, what with one player playing the same game twice, I couldn't say. If in the interest of the greater good (database integrity), you have to limit me to one slot in that game, I will take the vanilla town loss since the victory was due more to Lenlo's strategy and some of the town players' apathy than to my mad wolf skillz.

Nah I don't really make game-based judgement calls on this thing.  I just set a standard and stick to it.  (Keep in mind probably 90% of the games happened before I existed.)

1 and 2 are both easy to implement.  3 might take some work.

Ideally this should never happen. But we don't live in a perfect world so...I think option 2 makes the most sense. At first I thought option 1 but the more I thought about it the more it made sense to count it as the same game, it is the same people with the same roles and theme after all.

If it counts as two separate games played, and you are town and sub back into a town slot, you'd get two wins or two losses depending. I think it's more fair to count it as a draw if you've been in two different factions in the game.

Count as one game, but allocate the better result for stats?

Yeah, that was what I meant by option 3.  It's trickier to implement because I don't want a player who began as losing town and ended as winning scum to be credited with a town win etc, but it's doable.

Correct.  Sounds icky on the surface, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.  It treats the returning player as identical to the fresh sub, which isn't really the case in practice but is the theoretical ideal (I mean I think most of us agree that subbing a dead player back in is generally not a good idea).  Basically it's the most hands-off approach from a book keeping perspective, I think.

But it sounds like 2's getting the most support, and it's actually the easiest of the three to implement.  :)
