Suggestion: hybrid hammer as the default

I think a well planned game should last 5-7 real life days.

It's really all about giving appropriate deadlines here. After modding my game...I think giving 24 hours for night and 48 for day worked well. Not to mention that most of the times people reached majority before the deadline so the days/nights were even shorter.

Yeah I think that's a good approach it's just difficult to achieve that sort of speed on DM which is why I haven't modded here yet

 

Also the queue is so long. But this thread isn't really about me, it's about how smart I am and how I have good ideas and everyone should listen to me.

Hybrid Hammer games -  a lot of Mods actually used to use this, i know i've used that method for deadlines in about 70% of the games i ran here.   old news tommy    with the hybrid games, the trend here is that people tend to still treat them like a deadline only game, as far as the pace is concerned, and only really use the hammer "fast lynch" method in those games when a cop reveals a scum. 

 

 

quicker games that last about a week.  yep we had those too.  ya'll recall the "fast mafia" games.  generally had about 6 people per game, had quicker deadlines (days were about 48 hrs, nights about 24 hrs).  not many people ran them, because most mods favor a large set up, so the que got nixed and shoved into the advanced que iirc.

Honeymooning in our case was somewhat simplified... three days off work, lounging at home doing nothing. Including an extended lazing about in bed on our tablets.

Yeah, pretty much this. I like to change things up when I mod and not fall into a pattern, so I might try a hybrid game at some point just to keep things different.

Tommy, if you like the hybrid method so much, why not just mod hybrid hammer games here? The way you are going about it with this thread is just coming off as you coming in from another board and telling people who have been on DM way longer than you how to run their games. If you run your own games, that lets people see for themselves through experiencing it, and they can make their own decision after being more informed.

 

I dunno, I don't see a problem with opening lines of communication about stuff like this to get diff arguments and opinions out there. As it is, I've already seen a couple of people who mod who seem to think the hybrid  hammer system aint bad who might not have seen it advertised before in this thread

Rand is a better player than he gets credit for, IMO. I remember DPR's spider country game when he won as the last mafia left. And I could swear there was another game which I am drawing a blank on when he was also the last scum remaining and still pulled off the win.

I remember even quicker ones. Vampire games that Mynd and JLM ran (separately). They had a total of like 9 players and in signups they said, as soon as there are 9 people, this game is going to go super fast. Like 30 minute days, 10 minute nights, or something like that. I'll see if I can find a link. So, if you signed up, you had to make sure you had a set block of time available.

the only thing is, those type of games take a mod that has a few games under their belt imo  just like i wouldn't want a first time mod to go straight for an advanced game.

 

 

even a fast basic game would be a bit harder than an advanced one, because of how quickly the game happens.   you'd have to be ontop of the VC's and make sure you got your NA's done in a timely manner.

edit - but adding more ques and such may sound like a great idea cause the que could move faster ...  however one of the problems we use to have is "too many games at once and not enough players".  this is something DM will always suffer with imo

Chat is a problem. It has a participant limit for how many people can be in it at any given time. So you'd have to check what that limit is and if it can be increased if it's necessary to run a game.

Having games with very short deadlines makes it hard for all of us to play because of the timezones. Many mafia sites only have American players but we have people from all continents. It´s fun to play quick games though. JLM´s vampire games on MJ was fun. 

 

I also don´t think we need more queues. We have too few players right now.
