a mafia where the roles and alignments were not revealed?

I realized in writing the scenes for my Elizabethan Mafia that, if you kill someone, you have no idea of whether or not they were innocent or guilty. I know that you can find out a lot from alignments being revealed after a lynch or a NK, but what if they weren't revealed?

Anywho, was just wondering if anyone had any interest... Was thinking of having my next mafia with a basic set up (Because who doesn't love a good ole basic game?) but not having death reports.

a no corner game can be both fun and frustrating. i'd be up for it; so long as there was an undertaker or some role to get a corners report lol

I ran a no-coroner game once, and aside from the game being probably rather unbalanced (it was the first game where everyone had a role) I think the innocent team got kinda screwed by the lack of coroner, as I didn't have any way for them to determine alignments. So keep that in mind if you're going to set up such a game.

Verbal ran a no coroner bastard mod game on MJ, plus our information roles were inactives, plus a bunch of other ridiculous difficulties due to the game setup, and the town still won.

Good times. Featured one of my luckiest plays in mafia ever -- I was horribly wrong with a hunch, but it turned out to have a good result.

(This was back-to-back with Princess Bride, two of the best and most fun games I've played and two amazing town victories)

I was thinking of doing the simple old basic set up, so nothing too crazy, but throwing in a coroner finding ability for two townies. I guess it would still count as an Advanced game though..

Personally, I don't like them and try very hard not to play in them.

But that's just me. If you want to give it a try, go for it.

I've only played in one once and decided I wouldn't do it again. I'm sure they can be real fun for people but I prefer to play mafia where my head doesn't explode every time day ends.. :madmyrddraal:

I'd play in a no reveal game

might I suggest making it an open setup though?

so we know what roles are in the game but we wont know who has what role when they die

It would depend on the theme for me, whether I would play or not. If I was interested in the theme, I would probably play regardless.

Heh, Kivs ruined no-coroner games for me, even though I was on his team to start... I seriously am way too gullible for the lack of mod info with these games. I would definitely only suggest this kind of game for very good players, or people who don't mind a bit of frustration beyond the norm for mafia.

I love you, Hybrid.

Also, don't talk more about that game - see my name in the signups for advanced? That game is coming to DM.

I wasn't sure, so I tried to keep it as vague as possible. This will be interesting . . . :baalzamon:

Verbal, you will be running a No Coroner game? If so, then I may just wait to see how yours goes before I consider running one myself.

Yes. There will be no mod-coroner. There are balances in place, but it is difficult at first. But my game is a full bastard mod game - not just little tricks.....so you could always watch that one and go from there. Totally up to you!

A game where you have to out-think the mod. They've generally put in something exceedingly clever so the players can't necessarily win. Ask Kivam about his red scare game, it was a bit of a failure, but a total bastard mod game.

Heh. It was a mafia game with no mafia (all players were bombs, so once there was a single lynch, it would look like there were NKs). The town needed to no-lynch twice to win. I did tip the "no mafia" thing a bit hard in the setup, though (it was all about McCarthyism). It took a player with some historical knowledge to figure it out.

What is a bastard mod game anyway?

Read my Machine of Souls game on JN if you'd like an idea of 1 kind of bastard mod game. I have another that I'll run here on DM eventually.
