Who can see the future

Rand had what seemed to be a prophetic Dream in EOTW9. Does that count? I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Moridin were a Dreamer, though.

That would be my first guess too but BS explicitly states that it's not Rand he means here. On the same twitter page:

so I think we can rule Rand out here.

Could it be Mat? I don't think he is a dreamer but BS only says that it's a man who can see the future, not a dreamer.

A couple more guesses.

Fain. He seems to know where (and maybe when) Rand will be in ToM.

 

Hurin. He can smell where Fain's party will be when they are in the mirror world.

I'm not sure I understand what Brandon was responding to.. Was someone saying that Egwene and Min could see somewhat of the future... were they asking if any males, other than Perrin could? Or at least future possibilities? My guess would probably be Elyas too, I remember in EotW when they are leaving the Tinkers, he seems to know what needs to be done, and more importantly why it must be done, though he doesn't say.

 

Unless one of the Asha'man inherit foretelling or dreaming, my money is on Elyas.

That was my thought too. Given how often he was seen in TAR during his Ba'alzamon phase he seems the best candidate.

Moridin being a Dreamer would balance things out better.

 

So far, the good guys have:

A man who is so powerful in TAR that he might as well have been born there.

Many skilled, yet not quite as powerful, women in TAR

The single best Healer ever, who also happens to be VERY strong.

A guy who can and did fight and kill three Ninja Super Assassins (Trademark Leigh Butler) at once, while being essentially blind, who might be able to augment himself into one-man-army status, and then do it again, and then do it a third time. It depends on whether or not the rings can be activated all at once.

The single strongest channeler in the history of history, capable of taking out tens of thousands of Trollocs at a time.

A moderately powerful female channeler who can see the future

A guy with centuries of military knowledge including tactics, logistics, and man-to-man combat. Also reality-warping luck.

Most of a White Tower loaded with channelers of middling strength, and then their Warders.

Some of a Black Tower loaded with channelers of middling strength, trained to do nothing else but blow things (and people) up.

Above all, THESE PEOPLE CAN WORK TOGETHER.

 

The Bad guys have:

6 channelers of very respectable strength.

About 75 Black Ajah of middling strength, and then their Warders.

Some of a Black Tower loaded with channelers of middling strength, trained to do nothing else but blow things (and people) up.

Possibly millions of Trollocs

Thousands of Fades

Thousands of other Shadowspawn.

Possibly more Fades like him?

Above all, THESE PEOPLE HATE EACH OTHER.

 

Yeah...It ain't looking good for the Shadow here. There may be millions of Trollocs and thousands of Fades, but let's face it: Trollocs have been cannon fodder since book 1, with Fades not that much better, and that was before everybody became godlike.

Moridin and Slayer seem the best candidate. Fain doesn't fit for me : that't not the kind of powe I would associate with Aridhol.

 

It would be a big plot twist to have some random male on the Light's side to have that power. The only one that might vaguely fit would be Logain or Thom. Did we ever have a Logain PoV ?

I've thought about it some more and I'm now sure that one of my first 3 guesses above was right. It's Hurin. He could see where Fain's party will be when they were in the mirror world with Rand. That's seeing the future no matter how you slice it. And BS only said that this man can see the future not that he can Dream. Perhaps there is somebody else but Hurin definitely fits that description.

And I don't think it's Elyas, going purely on what was said in the Wolf Dream, something implying that Perrin was unique amongst the wolves in what he can do. Of course, being pendantic back, it does say wolves, so might not be applicable here either. I just got the impression that Perrin is unique out of the wolfdreamers.

 

Also, regarding Mat; honestly I think it'll be too much for him to be the other one. I mean, hasn't he got enough? I read that dream more of; subconciously he knows what he's planning, and understands the repercussions. And because of this, he's thinking that the deathtoll can only be something the Dark One would enjoy.

I don't want to be pedantic. I just wanted to point out that BS never mentioned Dreaming so something else might be involved. And really, if he said that there is another man that can smell the future that would be just a bit too transparent.

I don 't think there is a reason to parse his phrasing that far. If you do then one can start arguing that Perrin doesn't see the future either. After all his Dreaming happens when he is asleep with his eyes closed. Remember, this is from a twitter conversation (one dedicated to a reread of TGH btw). In view of this Hurin fits the criteria quite well IMO.

It's explained in ToM where they come from. and it's not from Moridin's Dreaming.
