I voted Moridin because I'm liking the bad guys at the moment. He has had some very interesting and memorable moments. The bit where he melts the railing and some ppor sod, the whole musing over the fisher king and Im so tired beside the fire. I dare say there isn't a single scene that involves him tha falls flat.

Fain would of been my second vote on the bad guys. Getting progressively more unhinged as the series comes to a close. His few pages in Tower's of Midnight was excellent in its lunacy. Also gotta love his plans. Pity he kinda faded completely from view since Far Madding, I think it was then.

More than honourable mention to Sammael. Nice level headed bloke. Talking of level headedness, Taim who is also subtle also gets a mention.

Now on the light side. Has to be Rand. Its Rand story despite how wide the scope has got since the halcyon days of The Eye of the World. The pity I felt for him in his madness turned to disgust and all the time he was compelling. Not your average hero. The apple growing Rand of nowadays could go completely pear shaped, sorry, but it could be epic.

Perrin came on a fair bit but I always kinda liked him. Pity about the him being got in traction for a few books.

Perrin...Mat...Rand...in that order.

Perrin has always been the most...normal out of the whole bunch and after that total pwnage scenes in TAR, totally owning a forsaken's master plan and being totally awesome with his wordplay(I can be of help)getting to fool an Aes Sedai(not so sure about that part) and just...he's awesome

Mat...do I even have to explain? I mean he's like the Barney Stinson of WoT...only better.

Rand is well...GODLIKE. I was like exploding with awesome in his appearances this book.

Thom and Rodel come in close but...hey ya can't rly compare beings made of pure awesome to...well halfbloods(beings made of both awesome and lesserawesome)

I agree 100%. He hasnt failed once, and I say that with the fact that Rand killed him firm in mind, because even though Ishamael knows he cant fight a Ta'veren head on, he did so anyway because he knew the Dark One could save him. Now that Rand has shown a fondness of balefire he holds back. Definitely my favorite Forsaken. The ONLY thing I fault him with is the fact that he told Rand in TGS that balefire stops reincarnation. And yet even that can be excused as in a way it could be his way of encouraging Rand to kill the others permanently, knowing that Rand cant kill Moridin in case it kills himself as well before the encunter wth the Dark One.

Mat is just hilarious and awesome. I love reading his chapters.

Lan has always been a favorite of mine and I always wished we would get a little more depth with him.

Ituralde has been epic in these last couple books. (Makes me wonder why Garyth Bryne isn't an option but he's been quiet this last book) Any of the Great Captains are sweet. Rand has greatly improved, but still not my favorite. And I also have to mention Gawyn killing 3 bloodknives which I think moves him up a notch over Galad in the best swordsman category, but still below Lan IMHO. Finally, I can identify with Perrin alot, but we've had soooo much of him drawn out throughout the series that he's gotten a little old for me. The recent embracing of the wolf was long overdue and getting the whitecloaks to join him will help him move up a notch in my book.

I voted Mat because... well, he's Mat. Ituralde has been pure badass since we met him though. I like Rand, I really felt for him preVOG and Perrin is a lot cooler in ToM than any previous book. Overall It's Mat though, he's consistently the best character in the series.

Logain was pretty much missing from TOM, But I wonder why Noal (farstrider) wasn't on the list. I loved His conclusion

My top Three are

Perrin- So incredibly epic. he has always been my favorite, though I was getting so annoyed at him in the rescuing Faile books, these has totally redeemed him as my fav

Rand- It was so nice to see a lovable Rand again

Then- Mat and Iltrude come in closely next...... Ive never cared for Matt all that much, but Ive been starting to like him more in these last books and rescuing Moraine adds something to His likablness......Iltrude is just awesomness in The battle scene. If He had been in more of the earlier books he would probably be one of my favorites.

1.) Rand. He's the main protagonist, after all. His journey has been the roughest, towards madness and certain (?) death. I feel for the poor guy.

2.) Mat. Hated him in the beginning - a total wuss, always complaining or evil and paranoid. Then after his Healing in the Tower: The coolest, the one you'd like to party with. A loveable scoundrel. And lucky gambler a great general.

3.) Ituralde. Poor man! Chaos in his homeland, battles against Dragonsworn and the Seanchan. Then: saved by Rand! Not - fierce fighting in Saldaea, total war with no reinforcements, blood and death, almost all of his best friends are dead. Cut him some slack, authors!

Mat is by far my favorite. These lines from ToM sum up why pretty well:

"Burn me, but it does," Mat said. "What ever convinced us to go hunting those fool girls? Next time, they can save themselves."

Thom eyed him. "Aren't we about to do the same thing? When we go to the Tower of Ghenjei?"

"It's different. We can't leave her with them. Those snakes and foxes --"

Of course, Thom's right. It is no different. But that's the kind of hero Mat is. No melodrama, no angst, no weighty introspection. He'll constantly claim he's no hero and "those fool girls" can save themselves, but if any one of them gets in trouble, regardless of whether he likes them, if they're total strangers to him, even if he can't stand them, he'll be dashing off to rescue them while every other hero is still thinking about it.

The hat, spear, luck, battle skills, and smirk are just gravy.

I'm gonna play hipster and say that the character that impressed me most was Dain Bornhald. When Byar was going after Perrin, Bornhald showed himself to be a man of strong character. I was also impressed by Geofram Bornhald in the first two books, because he was a cool guy, for Paladin.

Rodel Ituralde was really awesome. I have a feeling he and Bashere are going to be pretty bad ass in the Last Battle. I liked the Kandori man and his son from the prologue(?).

Galad made me grimace with his requirement of Perrin, but his POVs placed him in league with Bornhald Senior for my favorite Whitecloaks.

And good Goddamn, Rand's rescue of Ituralde from the Trollocs. So hardcore.

~ Elan Tedronai/Ishamael/Moridin

~ Galad

~ Mazrim Taim

By far the best characters in the book. Particularly Elan who is a downright curiosity since to this day we are not exactly sure as to his complete motives. In many ways he is the eternal nemesis to the LTT soul (currently inhabiting Rand) and entirely deserving of his epithet "betrayer of Hope." In no small part probably because many people cannot fathom his support for the DO due to his clear lack of passion, anger, malice or any other baser motivations.

Voted for Mat because hes Mat =) Hes one of the few characters who makes me laugh, who is utterly heroic and nearly never lauded for it by the people he saves (we all know who I'm talking about here)

Then its a toss up for me between Rand, Perrin, and Tam.

I've loved the changes to Rand, Perrin was hardcore awesome in ToM and Tam...well...Tam's shining moment for me is when he talked down Cadsuane in TGS. When she literally manhandles him with the OP and he basically calls her out on it....such a badass.

Then again I liked everyone on the list so yeah =)

Voted for Perrin. Of the three small-town boys from the backside of nowhere, his has always seemed to me the most realistic journey. I'm not impressed by the ability to kick ass, it's way too common in the genre. What impresses me about Perrin is his thoroughness and persistence (which was amply demonstrated in the hunt for Faile, when the typical "hero" would have just stormed in). He CAN kick ass when necessary, but he THINKS about it first.

It was kind of clear choice between two character: Rand or Mat. Both have grown up so much! Thinking about new Rand and Moiraine's rescue.. Well, I voted Rand, he has just always been one of my favorites. The second and the third would be Mat and Lan.

Rand is one of the most interesting and, in my opinion, human characters of the series, so I had to pick him. However, it's essentially a tie between him and Mat, who has become seriously badass. I just hope that we see some generaling from him in AMoL, it's been a while.

Nan flung herself to her knees beside his chair, clutching at his coat. "Mercy, Master

Mordeth," she panted. "Please, have mercy. He’s only a child. Only a child!"

For a moment he studied her curiously, head tilted. She was quite a pretty woman,

really. Planting a foot against her chest, he shoved her aside so he could stand. The

Myrddraal, peeking furtively, jerked its eyeless face away when it saw him watching. It

remembered his... tricks very well.

This passage sealed it for me. Infact i showed this part once to my cousin who never read the WOT series and 5 minutes later he borrowed the TEOTW from me.

Well said, Yates.

Well it appears this is a simple case of the Rands vs. the Mats! I voted for Mat. Both Rand and Mat, and Perrin, have been touched by death of a loved one, but Mat was more directly at fault than the others (I mean, Rand slaughtered Ilyena and all his other relatives too but he didn't know he was doing it at the time).

It used to be that Mat was the only one who remembered dying but now Rand remembers dying once, Mat still one-ups him there.

Sure Rand cleansed saidin and hunts down Forsaken for fun, but Mat had to deal with a wagon containing 3 Aes Sedai and 3 sul'dam. I'd almost rather the Chosen.

"I'll pay it. Half the light of the world."
